Train in Pain is a Team minigame appearing in Super Mario Party.

Overview[edit]

The minigame opens with both teams punching at each other using extendable boxing gloves while on two small trains that pull into a station that serves as an arena.

The goal of the minigame is for the players to punch their rivals and their allies off their trains. Each player's train pulls a few allies in their party (three for each player in minigame mode). To defeat a rival, a player must punch the rival from behind; otherwise, punching will briefly stun the rival. Players can also punch allies off their teammates. The team that defeats all the other team's members, or the team with more members on its side when time runs out, wins.

On Challenge Road, this is the final minigame and serves as the rival fight against Bowser (or Mario instead should the player play as Bowser or anyone else in the bottom row of the character roster). In the normal challenge, both the player and opponent have two allies each. In the Master Challenge, the player is on their own, meaning one hit defeats them.

Controls[edit]

  • Control Stick – Move
  • Single Joy-Con Right Button – Punch

In-game text[edit]

  • "Punch the rival cabooses!"
  • "Sneak around the rival trains to punch them from behind!"
  • Tips: "During a team battle, try not to punch your partner."

Naming[edit]

"Train in Pain" may be a play on the title of the 1979 song "Train in Vain" by English punk rock band The Clash.
