Super Mario Bros. 3 levels

World 6-5 is the fifth main level and the sixth level overall in Ice Land from Super Mario Bros. 3. This level is typically beaten by flying with a Koopa Shell, though it is possible to beat the level without doing so. It is the only level not in Dark Land with a 400-second timer.

Layout[edit]

The level starts with a Warp Pipe that leads to a large cave, immediately followed by a second warp pipe that leads back to the overworld, to a room with a ? Block containing a Super Leaf, which contains another Warp Pipe leading to the other side of the cave, creating a loop. After the Warp Pipe leading to the Super Leaf room, there is a ? Block with another Super Leaf and a Brick Block with a 1-Up Mushroom. There are also many Buster Beetles and White Blocks which can be thrown.

To complete the level, the player must have a Super Leaf or Tanooki Suit. To leave the loop, the player will need to fly to the ceiling of the cave, where they will discover an area containing a Warp Pipe, which is blocked by Nipper Plants and Brick Blocks. One way to gain access to the Warp Pipe is to hold a Koopa Shell, fly to the top, and throw the Koopa Shell to clear out this area. Then, Mario will be able to use the Warp Pipe to reach the goal. Alternatively, the player can attack the Nipper Plants directly. With careful timing, it is possible to defeat one of the Nipper Plants with Mario's tail at the cost of having Mario reduced to Super Mario. The player can then retrieve the Super Leaf from the area below. This allows the player to fly back up and use their tail to defeat the remaining Nipper Plant and break through the wall to reach the goal.

Just after the warp pipe in the cave to the Super Leaf room are three more gaps in the ceiling that lead to secret areas. The middle gap leads to a room with 8 brick blocks, one of which contains a 1-Up Mushroom, while the other gaps lead to a horizontal area walled by brick blocks containing the level's only 11 Coins.
