Left leaning politics are a focus. I know that having Chinese food every week may be boring to some people, but here are the reasons why I'm keeping this location: * Free parking * Reasonably priced * Separate checks * A really nice conference room * Great location * More new people from other parts of the city * 10 minutes from Brentwood in the middle of the day. The salads are good, or come and just have tea if you don't want Chinese food. Check out menu at [https://order.pfchangs.com](https://order.pfchangs.com/)\|
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Board gaming on Friday nights in Sherman Oaks
Friday Night Board Gaming (formerly Friday Night Dice) is a meetup for everyone who likes board games. And if you’re new to board games, our friendly gamers are happy to teach you how to play. We play basic European board games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, etc., and more advanced games like Suburbia, Power Grid, Terraforming Mars, and Railways of the World. Also war games & card games. We bring lots of games, but you’re free to bring your own! We used to game at LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) in Van Nuys. However, as that organization sold its building we have moved to Paper Hero's and Games, a game store in Sherman Oaks, and we continue to meet every Friday late afternoon and evening. We share the gaming space with a large group of Magic the Gathering players but we easily have room for between 10 to 20 board gamers who usually show up for board games. Most of these gamers are regulars who just don't bother to RSVP as this is a store open to all comers and requiring a Yes RSVP is not feasible as we are often joined by store customers who see what we are doing and ask to join in - and we always say YES! (As most gamers do not bother to RSVP, quite often our home page will just show me as the only attendee even though we may have almost 2 dozen gamers at our tables. So, if the home page shows just 1 person attending, pay no attention to that as we may very well have full house of gamers.) So come on down and get your gaming fix this Friday at the friendly and comfortable game store. We have beginners and advanced gamers, so everyone is welcome.

Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
Ten+ Tennis Tune-Up 3.5* NTRP
During During spring and milder weather this hour is reserved for private party . Feel free to check with me offseason if you don't mind the Heat. Also if there is no group the fee for a private hour is $40. Thanks for your understanding. What makes this workout different? For most players, it is the ability to master net play as well as enhancin g the ground-strokes to create 'all-court' game, coverage, control, balance, finesse, flexibility, ... altogether low-impact (on the joints) effective play. Here is a little information on my background. I have been coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the 'tennis powers that be' decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage, accuracy, variety, finesse and power... About 50% of our focus over the decades has been on the 'Inner Game' which creates the perfect balance to our workouts. Side benefits for those who follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related injuries. I am a 'player-coach', and have never experienced more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours. You can check the >More >Discussions >Message Board for a couple of threads on things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of good body chemistry called 'Be Healthy Now'. Check this out! Table of contents for the "Who was teaching what where when" upcoming tennis history, in which I am said to be featured in chapter 1 and chapter 4. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/8665ae_77f1c103ab7a40e2a5c0c43dd44198cc.pdf Final draft copies were distributed to tennis officials of the USTA and other tennis governing bodies at the recent US Open by its historian author. New publication date for all to see is April 2020. Anyone that attends my workouts with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! For future reference please contact me directly and early if you are interested in this event. This Meetup has contingencies, for instance it may not happen if the workout that precedes it isn't happening, and it probably will not happen if there is only one confirmation unless we convert it to 'Your private hour. (40$/hour, however, there is a non-meetup member and friend who attends most weeks and this hour is listed on our sister Meetup, thus a very good chance that this will be a group as the maximum is just four, really three because MU includes me in the count.) If you don't have my phone number, you may be in touch with me through Meetup message or email. I only exchange phone numbers via email. Please give me minimum 24 hour notice if you are interested. Skill level is usually 3.5 plus or minus... Thanks for checking!'

CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
CBS Film Series presents "Sheitel"
In Europe during the Middle Ages Christian women covered their hair. During the 16th and 17th centuries wigs were worn by royalty, and associated with high status and high fashion. In the 60s and 70s the wig enjoyed a revival thanks in part to a large fashionista market. Filmed in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Canada and Jerusalem, Sheitel traces the historical and spiritual roots of hair covering for married women in Judaism, its evolving interpretations, and its misconceptions. Scenes from Jerusalem reveal how head coverings act as markers of faith and empowerment not only for Jewish, but Christian and Muslim women as well. Additionally, the film offers a rare look into the global wig industry. Los Angeles - Canyon Leader Course (ACE-L3) - 'Intensive' + Wilderness First Aid
**To register for this class, please visit our website:** [Upcoming Events – Uber Adventures](https://uberadventures.net/events/) Uber Adventures' **Canyon Leader Course (ACE-L3**) is designed to prepare some for organizing or leading canyons and others to improve skills and expand the number of tools in their toolbox; specifically providing the next level of skills training through technical instruction and experiential practice. While these tools are a vital component for any active canyoneer, they are imperative for anyone leading rookies, kids, family or friends into a canyon. This course provides strategic training for unexpected technical and group management challenges ... when things don't go quite as planned! While this course is designed primarily to meet the needs of recreational canyoneers, it also provides a bridge between the Advanced Canyoneering Course (ACE-L2) and the Canyon Rescue Course (ACE-L4), and forms the training foundation for those planning to seek ACE certification as a Professional Canyon Guide! (While it is not required you take ACE-L2-L3-L4 Courses in sequence, it is recommended.) In addition, canyon leaders should have a minimum of **Wilderness First Aid (WFA)** training and be able to recognize warning signs, initiate treatment, and decide on urgency of evacuation for common medical conditions. Current WFA certification is a required prerequisite for the Canyon Leader Course. If you do not currently have WFA certification, Uber Adventures has partnered with Survival Med to provide training at a discounted price. EARLY Fryman Canyon, Studio City - Rainforest & the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook
EARLY Fryman Canyon, Studio City - Rainforest & the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook
**I've reset this Saturday morning short hike of 4 miles into a 9 mile hike through the Rainforest up to the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook on Mulholland Drive. There will be opportunities to leave the hike early. The reason I'm doing this is because the temperatures during the California winter and spring make it ideal for longer hikes and the recent rains we've had have transformed the park into a California paradise. I'll go back to a shorter hike in the late spring. This is a HIKE, be prepared.** **I believe Wilacre Park and Fryman Canyon will be open again after this recent rain so we'll be back at it again. Let's keep our fingers crossed, hoping that we get more rain.** It's time to get outdoors and enjoy a 2 hour hike in Studio City! It doesn't appear that social distancing and masks are required any longer. So, go with whatever makes you most comfortable. I've limited the hike to 100 people and hope it is not in violation of any Covid-19 restrictions. Just kidding. Please keep your RSVP up to date. But if you can't make it, don't worry, I'm not taking attendance. But if you are on the list and are running just a little late (no more 5 minutes, we'll wait for you, if I get the message.) 3453 Fryman Road (corner of Laurel Canyon and Fryman) MEET AT THE KIOSK IN FRONT. It is right at the beginning of the trailhead. There is a free parking lot and parking along Laurel Canyon. People are coming and going so drive carefully and give yourself plenty of time to find a place. Post a message if you are running late. The parking lot has been filling up in the morning. Try arriving 15 minutes early. The first part of the hike is an uphill climb and considered "intermediate". The rest is a gentle uphill slope. There are wide paths and plenty of room for leashed dogs. The TreePeople have opened their bathrooms and there are drinking fountains for humans and dogs. Bring water, sun protection and hiking shoes, or running shoes. The dirt road and trail can be dusty and slipper. Keep that in mind. "Yes" you can trip and or slip. More info about the park: https://mrca.ca.gov/parks/park-listing/wilacre-park/ At this point, don't worry if you sign up and can't make it. We'll leave trailhead, kiosk at 7:00. Our long range goal is to see as many members getting together on a Saturday morning for a little exercise and of, course camaraderie. We visit TreePeople Park. It is a fascinating spot and while we are there we just do a little exploring. There is a short walk in a secluded section of TreePeople Park which is just beautiful and relaxing. New in town? New to the Santa Monica Mountains? New to hiking? This is a good place to begin to immerse yourself into Los Angeles.

Check out the benefits of ACE certification .. they're pretty dang awesome: http://ACEcanyoneering.com). Train Hard, Plan Well, Be Safe ... but accident's still happen. This Canyon Rescue Course (ACE-L4) by Uber Adventures teaches the skills necessary to perform immediate, in-canyon self-rescues, partner rescues, and how to assist with group emergencies ... all with your groups' normal rack-and-pack (the minimal gear you should carry on your harnesses and in your packs.) This course not only teaches you the skills and methods necessary to execute a variety of rescue procedures, but it provides the impetus for critical thinking through an emergency. Could you haul a rappeller back to the top of a drop by yourself? Have you ever been in a canyon, assessing a fictional problem and felt helpless? Are your responsibilities in a canyoneering event greater because you're the leader/organizer? Would you like to be a more valuable team member? This course is vital for not only canyoneering leaders, but also for conscientious recreational canyoneers who value their own safety and the safety of their party. With the technical skills presented in this course, you could prevent the need for calling in an expensive Search and Rescue team, avoid putting rescuers at risk, avoid spending the night in a canyon, and continue a canyon descent with a non-critically injured teammate. **SKILLS:** • Advanced Friction Options • Knots, Rope Grabs & Progress Capture Methods • Anchors, Rigging & Friction Dynamics for Rescue • Mechanical Advantage and Haul Systems • Converting Static Rigging to Haul or Lower • Assisted Rappel & Tandem Rappel Techniques • Hero Rescue, Balancier Lift • Rappelling on a Tensioned Rope • Guide Ropes, Tag Lines, Belays • Cut-and-Lower Procedures • Special Ascending Techniques for Rescue • Pick-Off Procedures Scenario (X2) • Considerations for musculoskeletal injuries **PREREQUISITES:** Since this course builds upon the skills and techniques presented in our Technical Canyoneering Course (ACE-L1), our Advanced Canyoneering Course (ACE-L2), AND our Canyon Leader Course (ACE-L3), we recommend that you've either taken two or three of those courses or have significant relevant personal experience before taking this class (please inquire if you're unsure if this is the correct course for your current skill set). **INSTRUCTION:** UBER Adventures is America’s premier Canyoneering Instruction, Events and Community!
