Gloriana are a country band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Unites States who formed in 2008. Since their debut in 2009 they have released two hit studio albums and eight singles, six of which have been top 40 hits on the Billboard Country charts.
Tom and Mike Gossin are brothers with a similar aptitude for music. They both began classical piano lessons at the age of five before Tom took up the guitar at the age of 12 to form a band called Oblique with the third Gossin brother Stephen. Tom took to the guitar so much so that not only did he majored in guitar studies at university, but he was actually advised by one of his professors to drop out of college and pursue a music career full time. Mike was also something of a prodigy, taking up the drums at the age of eight and, like his brother, learning the guitar at the age of 12. After college, they both moved down to Nashville in order to start a full-time music career, performing as a duo together.
While they were down their they encountered the MySpace page of a fellow young Nashville based songwriter called Rachel Reinert, and were so impressed with her work that they almost immediately offered her a spot in their band. Reinert was a fellow prodigy who had signed a publishing deal for her songs at the age of 15, so she fit right in with the Gosserts and performs with them to this very day. The final piece of the puzzle met the nascent trio in a Nashville nightclub, and like the others, Cheyenne Kimball had more musical experience in her first 18 years of existence than most gain in a lifetime, having already recorded a solo album on Epic Records at the age of 16. With all four members in place, the four piece named themselves Gloriana and signed to Emblem Records in 2008.
Their first single “Wild At Heart” ended up becoming the highest-selling debut country single of the year, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard Country charts and being certified Gold before the year was out. Ever since then, the band have been able to whether the departure of Kimball to become one of the hottest country acts around, with both their self-titled debut album and their second effort “A Thousand Miles Left Behind charting at number two on the country charts in 2009 and 2012 respectively. With the world of country music at their feet, the only way for Gloriana is up, and for that, they come highly recommended.
Read moreGloriana is a relatively new country band, only having formed in 2008, but they’ve already managed to have two albums in the Top 15, and won three awards. They’ve just released their latest single, ‘Best Night Ever’, with a new album in the works, and though they’re sticking pretty unwaveringly from their country style, there’s really no problem in that. They know what they do, and they’re doing it pretty damn well.
When it comes to seeing them live, Gloriana are wonderfully lax. Rather than other acts, who might stick to stuff off their latest album, Gloriana will vary between new songs to favourites from years ago, to stuff they haven’t even released yet. They mix it up well, alternating between trying their untested music on the audience to something they know the audience can enjoy and sing along to. It’s great to have an act that can work well with the audience, rather than just perform what they’re paid to perform. They were fantastic, making jokes between songs, laughing and showing how much fun they were having – and causing us in the audience to have so much more fun because of it. Their use of warm lighting matched perfectly with the warm tone of their music and lyrics, making us all feel right at home.
It sounds weird to describe a gig as ‘comfortable’, but that’s exactly what it was. They’re very enjoyable, very relaxing, and definitely one of the most promising country acts out there.
Tom Gossin and Mike Gossin formed country music band Gloriana along with lead vocalist Rachel Reinert in 2008 and since then the triple combination has proven to be incredibly fruitful. With a handful of US country hits and a selection of well received albums, the tours are now focused on showcasing the ever moving direction of Gloriana as well as sharing some of the fan favourite tracks such as 'Can't Shake That'. It is a fun event from the word go as the three musicians step out onto the stage to eruptions of cheers and applause.
The drum beat kicks in and they begin to harmonise on the ripping 'Wild At Heart' as it quickly picks up pace and has the crowd jumping along with Rachel. All three of these artists look as though they are having the time of their lives and even though they are focused on their instrumentals throughout the show they still allow time to indulge in the fun. This makes the atmosphere lighter and the crowds invest in the feel good mentality. They save a number of hits to lead up towards a finale and these include 'Best Night Ever' and the singalong country jam '(Kissed You) Good Night'.
