History of Ice Hockey It was recorded that the first game of Hockey was played before Christ with

a stick and ball. Beginning of the NHL The first game of Ice Hockey was played in 1875 at Victoria skating rink in Montreal, Quebec on a Curling rink. J G Creighton created the rules and fundamentals of the growing sport at McGill University. In 1890 a man from England came to Canada and was watching the sport. Then he decided to create trophy called The Stanley Cup in the early 1900s, teams like the Toronto Blueshirts, Vancouver Millionaires, (Or now should be called the West Vancouver Million-Dollar Houses) and the Montreal Canadiens competed for it. In 1917 a tiny organization called the National Hockey League. With 6 teams the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks. Only NHL Teams could win the Stanley cup. Olympics In 1920, Hockey was brought to the VI Olympic Games. Canada won most of the games, because they created the sport and it was in there blood in the 1940s, they beat Denmark 33-0 and 49-0. However until 1998 NHL could participate in the Olympics. That sucks, Wayne Gretzky broke 61 records in the NHL, took the Stanley cup 4 out of the 5 years, and no Olympic gold medal. OH NO. About 50% of NHL players are Canadian, but the Czech Republic won. In 2002 Salt Lake City, Canada won the gold medal. In 2006 Torin, Italy, U.S.A. won, Canada came in 7th. In 2010, Canada won in overtime.
