Word Formation in FCE and CAE
First Certificate in English (FCE) and Certificate in Advanced
English (CAE) from Cambridge are composed of different
parts, one of them is Use of English where there are several
exercises, one of which is Word Formation.
This presentation is focused on this part; Word Formation.
It consists of a text with some gaps, where we have to write the
appropriate word based on the given one. The word given is from the
same family and we have to add suffixes and/or prefixes to fit into the
text.
Word Formation in FCE and CAE
The diagrams that I designed help us find possible suffixes or prefixes.
Taking into account that I do not show all the possibilities, I have
summarized using the most common ones.
You have to recognize the grammatical form (adjective, verb, etc.) of given and missing
word, and after you have to follow the arrow, there you find some possible suffixes and
prefixes.
I will be really grateful if you send me any comment or suggestion. You can
