It notes that the Amazon River winds through the country and supports vast rainforests that receive over 120 inches of rainfall annually. These rainforests cover much of the Amazon Basin. It also describes the Brazilian Highlands, which cover about half the country and drop sharply to the Atlantic Ocean at the Great Escarpment cliff. The document outlines Brazil's economic reliance on resources extracted from the rainforests like rubber, minerals, and wood, as well as agriculture and cattle ranching in the highlands and tourism in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
