World History

Renaissance Project

Part 1: Research
1. Choose an artist from the list below. You will be researching their life and analyzing a work of art
by them.
2. Gather biographical information about them. Use one or two websites and at least one printed
source. Be sure to compare facts from the two sources and make sure they are consistent. Also be
sure to paraphrase your notes because copying (plagiarism) is illegal. Keep track of your sources for
the Works Cited page.
3. Choose a work of art by your artist. Print a image of it (in color if possible) for your project and
write down its title and date. Then write a paragraph describing the work of art. Point out what is
important, interesting, and unusual about it. Explain why it is typical of the Renaissance. (Your
class notes will help.)
Part II: Possible Topics
Below is a list of painters of the Italian and the Northern Renaissance. If you find an artist/painting that
you’d rather do, just check with me to make sure it fits the project.

Leonardo da Vinci Michelangelo Buonarroti Bellini Titian Tintoretto Botticelli

Caravaggio Giotto Raphael Jan Van Eyck Albrecht Durer
Hans Holbein Pieter Brueghel Hieronymous Bosch Rembrandt
