Adjectives

This document provides instructions for writing a poem that repeats the first line each time adding a new adjective to describe the subject. It gives an example poem about seeing a bear on the way to the zoo, where each line adds an additional adjective like "brown", "ugly", "wild", etc to describe the bear, culminating in an escaped, hungry, angry bear that wants to eat the speaker. Students are prompted to write their own version of this poem by filling in blanks for what they saw on their way to school and how it progresses with more descriptive adjectives and a funny last line.

Adding Awesome Adjectives

Name: ......................................................................................
Adjectives are describing words. If I say "Tom is playing with a red ball" then the word red
describes the ball. Write a poem by repeating the first line but each time adding another
adjective.
For example.
On my way to the zoo I saw a bear.
It was a brown bear.
It was an ugly brown bear
It was a wild, ugly, brown bear
It was an angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
It was a hungry, angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
It was an escaped, hungry, angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
And it wanted to eat me!
On my way to school I saw a _______________________________
It was a _______________________
It was a _______________________________
It was a ________________________________________
It was a _______________________________________________
It was a _______________________________________________________
and it __________________________________________
(Try to think of a funny last line)
