Overview:
General Electric Company (GE) is an American Multinational
conglomerate incorporated in New York and headquartered in Boston. As of 2018,
the company operates through the following sectors: Aviation, Healthcare, Power,
Renewable Energy, Digital Industry, Additive Manufacturing, GE capital and finance,
Lightning, Transportation and Oil and Gas.
Historical Background:
In The late 19th century electricity and inventions related to
electricity began to grow rapidly. World is actually entering into a new era.
So many scientists working on to lit up this world with a new form or shape of
energy which is electricity. In 1889 beginning from 1882 Thomas Edison had many
business interests in numerous electricity related companies including Edison Lamp
Company which was the pioneer company of his famous works manufacturing
lamps. In 1889 J.P. Morgan
and his Partner financed Edison Research and helped him to merge all those
companies including Edison Machine work under one corporation to form Edison
General Electric Company which was incorporated in New York on
April 24, 1889.

In 2018, GE ranked among the Fortune 500 as the 18th largest firm in the U.S.
by gross revenue. In 2011, GE ranked among the Fortune 20 as the 14th-most
profitable company. As of 2012, the company was listed as the fourth-largest in the
world among the Forbes Global 2000.

GE Power :
GE Power (formerly known as GE Energy) is an American energy
techniques company, which means it is the totality of all of the industries involved
in the production and sale of energy, including fuel extraction ,Fuel Mining and
manufacturing, refining and distribution. Owned by General Electric. GE Power is
the largest energy techniques and selling Energy Company in the world. As of 2018,
General Electric power plants produce one-third of the world's electricity which is
an evidence of success of this humongous company and of its great services
provided towards the whole world. GE Power is a world leader in power generation
with deep domain expertise to help customers deliver electricity from a wide
spectrum of fuel sources. GE (Power) transforming the electricity industry with the
digital power plant, the world’s largest and most efficient gas turbine, full balance
of plant, upgrade and service solutions as well as the data-leveraging software. GE
Power have so many industries integrated into this parent company, they all are
working under one umbrella of General Electric.
In this Initial report on GE we are just mainly focusing on the major sectors in which
GE Power is working. GE Power has expertise in sectors related to Gas, Nuclear,
Steam, and Grid and provide different services related to these sectors. We are for
the time being just concerning GE Power in the broader picture.
GE Gas:
GE has been delivering innovative products and services that create
significant value for our gas power generation customers as they face physical,
financial, and environmental and sustainability challenges. At GE's Gas Power
Systems, GE pushing the boundaries of what's possible within gas power
generation to help the customers achieve the right balance between power plant
performance and environmental sustainability. GE is providing these services now
from 125 years and counting, GE’s Gas involves conversion of the full spectrum of
liquid and gas fuels to energy, with natural gas-fueled combined cycle power plants
offering one of the cleanest and most efficient methods of producing electricity
from fossil fuels.

Services:
Services includes industry-leading gas and steam turbines,
generators, heat recovery steam generators, condensers and other balance of plant
equipment. GE’s Gas provides services regarding these aspects and products of
industry related to Gas Power Generation and Usage, it also includes services
related to Fossil Fuel extraction and a comprehensive way to convert them for
energy usage.
Generation / Supply:
The Generation which is based on Gas is 24% of the total energy and
the generation will increase to 7000 TWh by 2025, as of 2015 it is 5000Twh. The
generation need is increasing with every passing day. The current supply of
electricity through Gas is 1690 GW.

From these parameters it is evident that the supply currently is not enough for the
usage capacity because according to IEA (International Energy Agency) electricity
generation, it predicts that natural gas, wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) will supply
70 percent of the additional electricity generated between now and 2040 in nearly
equal shares.
Demand / Usage:
Today, one out of every six people in the world is without access
to electricity. Power demand, for gas power and others, is growing globally and
access to reliable, affordable electricity is a critical enabler for economic growth and
quality of life. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), by 2020, the
global economy's GDP is expected to grow by 3.5 percent annually and the
population will increase by about one billion. In line with these economic and
demographic forecasts, the IEA projects that total energy demand will rise by one-
third through 2040. By 2040, a total of 1,510 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity for
gas-fired power plants will be needed, when factoring in the retirements of many
existing plants.

People without Electricity Today:
It shows there is still much need and demand of electricity which we can fulfill by
producing enough electricity through different sources includes through Gas.

WHY GAS IS GOOD:
Widely available and transportable, natural gas is a preferred
global fuel. Producing more power with greater efficiency, it is changing the way
people think about power generation today.
Innovation:
GE providing innovation through its worldwide services and ready to
use Mobile power plants that can be installed where ever a customer or
organization wants, the innovation is also based upon reducing the harmful effects
of these kind of fuels and taking less from nature and maximizing the output from
generation from these natural resources.
GE and Pakistan:
Every day, GE and its partners are at work in Pakistan, moving
people and freight across cities, villages, deserts, plains and the skies,
making sure they get to where they need to be. Together, the world is open
to us.
Pakistan International Airline:
In a partnership spanning over 45 years, GE has provided PIA with advanced
technologies such as the GE 90-115B engines, aided the airline to unlock
financing for engine servicing and helped it revitalize its fleet through lease
agreements for modern, fuel-efficient planes.
Pakistan Railways:
55 GE Evolution Series trains will help Pakistan Railways move essential
freight across the country. They are the result of a 10-year, $400 million
investment by GE Transportation and meet the most stringent emissions
standards.

In Power Sector:
Under Vision 2025, the Government has set ambitious goals to double
power generation to over 45,000 megawatts (MW) and increase access to
electricity from 67% to over 90% of the population. GE is helping Pakistan
meet these goals. Today, GE-built technologies generate more than a
quarter of the country’s electricity, GE upgrade solutions help partners such
as K-Electric boost power output and fuel efficiency from existing power
generation assets and GE advanced technologies such as the 9FA gas
turbines help facilities such as the Guddu Thermal Power Complex lower
costs through higher fuel efficiency.
