Highlight - This is an Ex-Cochin pilgrimage itinerary for visiting major pilgrimage destinations of
Kerala and Tamilnadu. Guruvayoor Krishna Temple, Palani Hill Temple (Kartikeya), Rameshwaram
Jyotirlinga Temple (Shiva), Madurai Meenakshi Temple (Shiva / Parvati) and Nellaiappar Temple (Shiva /
Parvati) are most renowned and considered a must visit. Temples in Kanyakumari and other temples in
Kerala also have significant regional significance and offer a wide architectural panorama for guests
looking beyond the pilgrimage element. 

Recommended Itinerary (This is an indicative itinerary, Sequence of the activities may vary and depend
on prevailing weather condition and guest preferences)

 Day 1 - Arrive at Cochin / Ernakulam / Aluva / Thrissur and reach Guruvayoor (65 kms from
Cochin Airport / 100 kms from Ernakulam Station). Do evening Darshan at the temple. 
 Day 2 - Travel to Guruvayoor to Palani (225 kms - 5-6 hours). Overnight at Palani and visit
temples around Palani during the day

 Day 4 - Rameshwaram - Madurai - 160 kms (4 hours) - Visit famous Meenakshi Temple at
Madurai. Spend a couple of hours in the temple complex. Given time guests may also visit
Koodal Azhagar Temple (2 kms from town centre a unique temple with Lord Vishnu in three
 poses viz. sitting, standing and reclining, one above the other) and Vandiyur Mariamman
Teppakulam (5 kms from town centre a Vinayaka temple built in 1646)
 Day 5 - Madurai - Thirunelveli (150 kms - 3 hours). Visit Thirunelveli Nellaiappar Temple - Biggest
Temple Complex in South India. Overnight stay in Tuticorin. A port city 46 kms from Thirunelveli.

Other places that can be visited are :

 Tiruchendur - Subramaniya Swamy Temple. 45 Kms from Tuticorin. One of the six
"Arupadai Veedu"
 Kalugumalai - Ancient Rockcut Temple. Jain Architechture. 61 Kms
 Navathirupathi - 9 Temples dedicated to Vishnu within a radius of 35 Kms.
 Virapandiapattanam, Manapad & Ovari - Ancient Divine Churches

 Day 6 - From Tuticorin - Kanyakumari (150 kms - 3.5 hours). Visit the Devi Kanyakumari temple,
Vivekanand rock memorial, Kumari Amman temple. Witness the famous Kanyakumari Sunset.
 Day 7 - Witness famous Kanyakumari sunrise. From Kanyakumari to Trivandrum (100 kms) and
visit Guganatha Swamy Temple (Trivandrum) Padmanabha Swamy temple, a Divya Desam (One
of the 108 Divya Desams). Reach Varkala by evening. 
 Day 8 - Varkala Janardan Temple at Varkala. There are number of temples and Churches in the
Kollam area. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math is situated at Amritapuri in this district, about 30
km from the Kollam town. Visiting Ambalapuzha Krishna Temple and Aranmula temple and reach
Alleppey by evening.
 Day 9 - In Kottayam District there are number of significant temples. Chettikulangara Bhagawati
Temple, Thrikodithanam Temple at Changanacherry, Shiva temple at Ettumannoor are some of
them. Reach Cochin / Ernakulam by evening and proceed for onward journey.

Day 5: Tanjore - Trichy - Madurai
After breakfast drive to Madurai (190 kms/5½ hrs) enroute visiting
Trichy 

City tour of Trichy - visit the 'Rock Fort Temple' which rises abruptly
to a height of 273 ft. A steep staircase cut into the rock leads upto
the Fort. At the first level are the remnants of a huge hall blasted into
ruins in 1772. The next storey is the Mathrubhuteshwarer Shrine
dedicated to Shiva. Finally at the top of the hill, the 'Uchhi Pillayar
Koil' - a Ganesh Temple offering a commanding view of the city. 
Thereafter continue drive to Madurai
Upon arrival at Madurai - check into hotel. 

Evening visit of the Meenakshi temple - Leave the hotel for the temple by cycle rickshaws. At 9 PM, attend
the night ceremony at the temple. This is a ceremony that takes place every evening when the temple
bronze of Lord Shiva is carried to the bed chamber of Parvati. The procession is accompanied by religious
prayer and temple music.

Day 6: Madurai - Periyar

Morning city tour of Madurai visit the Meenakshi temple one of the biggest temple complexes in India.

Drive to Munnar and on arrival, check-in at the hotel. Munnar,
largely blanketed by tea plantations, this little hill resort offers
breath-taking scenery. Situated at an altitude of 1525 metres, this
town has a local bracing climate. The atmosphere is fragrant with extensive tea and cardamom plantations.
There are enchanting high ranges, lakes and streams and lovely views of low flying clouds and mist filled

Day 04 - Munnar - Periyar drive, 100 km

Drive to Periyar and on arrival, check-in at the hotel. Morning drive to Periyar and on arrival, check-in at the
hotel. Periyar, spread over an area of 777 sq km, this sanctuary has about 35 tigers and leopards. Overnight
at the hotel. 

Day 05 - Periyar - Kumarakom, 136 km (via Kottayam) 

Drive to Kumarakom via Kottayam. Kottayam, 64 kms from Cochin, it is another commercial centre of
Kerala. Dotted with churches and covered with rubber plantations, Kottayam is just 16 km away from
Kumarakom and Vembanand Lake.
On arrival, transfer by boat to Coconut Lagoon. 

Kumarakom is a beautiful backwater village on the shores of the enchanting Vembanad Lake. 

Day 06 - Kumarakom - Embark Houseboat

Cruise in the canal by Bamboo Poles, sail through the lagoon with
favourable wind. Evening witness sunset through coconut palms.
Dinner under million stars. 

Day 07 - Alleppey - Quilon

Morning wake up and after breakfast, cruise through Pallathuruthy
River and reach Ambalappuzha. visit ancient and historical temple
of Lord Krishna and later Karumadi (Buddha Temple. Leave for
Champakkulam. Can swim in River Pampa and thereafter visit a
village Farm House in Champakkulam and village market.

Day 08 - Quilon - Kanya Kumari
Morning short visit of Quilon, famous for old wooden houses and cashew tree plantation on the edge of
Ashtamudi lake. The delightful backwaters of Kerala begin from this picturesque town. Drive to Kanya
Kumari, 170 km arriving before sun-set. The sun-set at the confluence of Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and
Arabian Sea is a delight to witness. 

Day 09 - Kanya Kumari - Kovalam

The Southernmost end of Tamil Nadu, the land's end of India or the point where three seas meet. Cape
Camorin of Kanya Kumari is at its best during Chitra Pournima (full moon day in April) when sun and moon
are face to face at the same horizon at the confluence point of Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocena and Arabina sea.
The Vivekananad Memorial built on the rock into the water where the great Philosopher guide Swami
Vivekananda when into meditation that transformed him into one of the most charismatic spiritual leader of
the century. Arrive Kovalam and check-in at the hotel.

Day 10 - Kovalam-Trivandrum-Dep.
Morning sightseeing tour of Trivandrum. The capital of Kerala, built over seven forested hills.
Padmanabhaswamy Temple, a seven storey stone structure is the most impressive landmark. This temple
dedicated to Lord Vishnu contains several inscriptions and excellent murals, innumerable intricate stone
carvings adorn the temple. Napier Museum of Arts and Crafts completed in 1880, it was an early experiment
in what became known as the Indo Saracenic style.
