Bardock

The document discusses Akira Toriyama's views on Bardock from Dragon Ball, including that Toriyama supervised Bardock's design for the anime but barely included him in the manga, saw Bardock as having a small measure of humanity compared to other Saiyans, and when asked said it would be difficult for Bardock to return due to his low battle power, though Shenron could potentially revive him.

‘Dragon Ball Super’: Akira Toriyama and the upcoming appearances of Bardock

There were a lot of theories before the release of the Trunks saga regarding the new antagonist of
the series. We all know now that this new character is none other than Black Goku, but before his
first appearance, it was believed that the main antagonist could be Raditz, Broly, Turles and even a
possessed and masked Bardock, which was definitely the most shocking theory.

Akira Toriyama

The original creator of Dragon Ball has already talked about this topic during an interview made by
Naho Ooishi for the Japanese manga magazine Saikyō Jump (at the beginning of 2014) and had
very interesting things to say. First, he said that Bardock was born from the anime (he made his
debut in a TV special in 1990, where he was the main protagonist). Akira didn't design him, but he
supervised the design. He was very pleased with the final result, and because of this he wanted to
have him in the manga as well. However, Bardock barely appears in the manga, and this led to
believe that Toriyama forgot that Bardock also takes part in the manga.

Bardock’s personality

When he was asked about Bardock's personality, he said that he is warlike, but he has a small
measure of humanity and calm judgment, in comparison to other Saiyans, who are more cold-
hearted.

Bardock's family

His family is formed by Gine, Raditz and Kakarot, even though they have never been together as a
four piece. It's said that Bardock might have had siblings, but he doesn't know about that or he
just simply doesn't care.

Could Bardock possibly return?

And now the most important thing: When Toriyama was asked if we might be able to see Bardock
in the future, he replied "Unfortunately, Bardock has been dead for quite a while, so this means
that you won't be able to see him in action, with the exception of the stories from the past.
There's always the chance to bring him back to life through Shenron, but at this point his battle
power is not good enough, so that makes it more difficult"

We have to point out that when he gave this interview, Toriyama didn't know that he will continue
the franchise with Dragon Ball Super, however, his message was clear and straight forward. For
now, we just have to wait and see if he changes his mind, maybe he gets convinced by Toei
Animation to bring him back to life.
