CROCHET PATTERN

Don the Diplodocus

Don the diplodocus spends all day grazing on the soft foliage from the tops of trees and
stripping the bark further down. This wears his teeth out pretty quickly but it’s ok, they just
keep growing back.

He is 17 inches long and 8 inches tall (when made with the recommended materials). I
hope you have as much fun as I did making him!

COLOUR CHANGE

Colour Change: There are a couple of colour changes in this pattern; see pics below for a neat
colour change technique when doing DC. If the stitch is a HTR, pull the new colour through on
the second/last part of the stitch (yarn1 over, hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull back
through, yarn2 over, pull through last 3 hoops). If the stitch is a DEC, pull the new colour
through on the last part of the stitch (hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull hook back,
hook through next stitch, yarn1 over, pull hook back, yarn2 over, pull through all 3 hoops).

BACK LOOP ONLY

ABBREVIATIONS

SPOTS (make 15)

Yarn Colour: cream
Rounds:
1) begin with 6dc in a magic ring (6)
2) inc in every st (12)
Fasten off using the “no knobbly bit” technique on page 6 (to avoid a lump) and leave a long tail for
sewing.

“NO KNOBBLY BIT” TECHNIQUE – for finishing spots
1) finish the last stitch in your piece (dc) and cut the yarn (leaving a long tail for sewing)
2) slip stitch into next stitch
3) pull the hoop to make a larger hoop
4) remove your hook and put it through the next stitch from back to front
5) grab the hoop at the front and pull through the stitch so it’s now at the back of the piece
6) pull the tail end (the long piece you left for sewing) through the hoop
7) gently pull it all the way through until the hoop gets smaller and fastens
8) you should now have a perfectly round piece without a visible knot (or knobbly bit)
