Reading Rate
This year I have read about 3,300 pages out of 5,000. I have not included books that I
plan on reading for the rest of the year so I hope that by the end of the year I will have read
about 5,000 pages. I have completed 11 books as of right now and A Stranger In the House is
my favorite one. It was full of mystery and suspense that had me turning pages very quickly.
Although I still have goals for the last few weeks of the school year, I wish I had done a little bit
better in the beginning of the school year with keeping up with my reading goals. During
basketball season I didn’t have a lot of time after school so I didn’t read as much as I should
have. Recently I have tried really hard to focus on my reading and make it a priority. I got a little
off track at the beginning of the school year but I feel like I am on track again continuing to work
on the goal of 5,000 pages.
Reading Reflection

Reading has not always been something in high school that I prioritise. It’s not

that I’m not good at it, but I have interests in other things at school. This year has

probably been the first year that I’ve really made an effort to create goals for myself and

continue to pursue them. None of my teachers in the past have put a big enough

emphasis on reading for me to really listen. This year I feel like my reading habits have

changed for the better. I have read 11 books and my top 5 favorites were A Stranger in

the House, The Hate You Give, You, The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck, and A Stolen

life. I feel like after reading these books I have gained experience with a few different

genres. For example, I read A Stranger in the House which I wasn’t expecting to like.

Usually I like books that are a little more realistic fiction and and teenage drama related.

This book was mysterious, drama filled, and always had me curious. I also really liked it

because it was different for me. I think it was good to get out of my comfort zone as far

as book genres go. The Hate you Give w

as one of my favorites too because it was a

tearjerker. It was really emotional which also made it very difficult to put down. I had

seen the movie for this book and was attached to it so I was very excited to read the

book. If I had to compare the book to the movie I would say the book had more detail

which made it more impactful. Another book that was similar to The Hate you Give w
 as

A Stolen Life. Both of these novels were extremely intense and they are the kind of
books that I typically like. They are dramatic, heartaching, and inspirational. They are

the kind of books that make you want to read another once you finish. They were two

books that I really enjoyed and I’m glad I read them.

Each quarter we were supposed to schedule 2 book conferences to talk about

our goals. This was something I did not keep up with. The first and second quarters I

only scheduled one conference and in the third quarter I did not schedule any. I

definitely should have kept up with them and maybe I wouldn’t have had a stretch where

I struggled to keep up with my reading. I think it would’ve helped me but I’m also glad

that I was in control of keeping myself disciplined. I think this made me a stronger

reader and helped my school habits all around.

For the rest of the school year I am going to work really hard to focus on reading

until I reach the goal of 5,000 pages. I am making sure that when I finish a book I

always have one on deck so that I don’t waste any time. I think a good plan for me

would be to start a series of 3 of 4 books. I think if I start books that are good and have

a next one, then I will want to continue to read them. I believe my plan will help me

achieve the new goals I have for the end of the school year.
