Stage 1.
5: Identify- Proposal
Due May 22 beginning of class
1 proposal per group
There should be three paragraphs! One for each topic
Answer For each topic (1-3):
Give a summary paragraph covering what is the problem and some previously
attempted solutions. Why do you want to solve it? What are some issues with you
choosing this topic? And include rank 1-3 and why you chose that rank
1. Advancing the Lana Validating Vegetable Production Unit. Our goal would be
to propose an idea on how to use the science in this vegetable growth in space to
create mass production to help third world countries. NASA has been working with
the Russian Space Program to advance on plant growth in space, but have only
shown three positive plant results in small moderations. Helping this project would
create advancements in our agriculture, space colonization, and help feed starving
countries without disrupting land on our surface. One issue is us trying to work
with a variable that we don’t know too much about since most of these trials in
space are guess and check. But with enough research, we can create a hypothetical
lab to mass grow food in space.
2. Water Quality in third world countries. There are many current solutions to help
the water quality issue, but most of these solutions aren’t economically sustainable.
Our goal would be to create an easy-to-use water filter that can go to the hundreds
of thousands of people without access to clean water. Solving this would help so
many people. An issue with solving this problem is using the given solutions and
finding a way to make them more cost-effective because most solutions run off of
organizations and help only a small portion. But with the right materials, we can
find the right way to go about this product.
3. Mental Health Diagnostic Issues. Proper diagnoses for mental illnesses are either
expensive and accurate or cheap and not as accurate. Our goal is to use previous
research on radioactive injections that draw to dopamine transporters and create a
safer alternative to this method. We would want to stick to this method based on
the accuracy, but make it safer and cheaper. This solution could help thousands
suffering from incorrect diagnosis and create an easier way to prescribe the correct
medication. One issue to solving this would be that there's no 100% accurate way
to measure dopamine levels. But finding an alternative can create an easier way to
accuracy.
