Acknowledgement

When we started planning for this project, we thought that it is going to take a lot of
reference material. But to our surprise developing this project were a collective effort of our
college and equally valuable suggestions from our classmates who equally helped us by
discussing this project in the free hours in the class.
Most importantly we would like to thank Dr. Rajender Nath, Project Guide M.C.A. for
their immaculate supervision, sustained efforts and complete support in accomplishment of this
project.

We express our profound gratitude the “SCHOOL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ” for

giving us an opportunity to study in details, the management and working of students related
concepts.

SYSTEM ANALYSIS
2.1 Introduction

System analysis is a process of gathering and interpreting facts, diagnosing problems and the information to
recommend improvements on the system. It is a problem solving activity that requires intensive communication
between the system users and system developers. System analysis or study is an important phase of any system
development process. The system is studied to the minutest detail and analyzed. The system analyst plays the
role of the interrogator and dwells deep into the working of the present system. The system is viewed as a whole
and the input to the system are identified. The outputs from the organizations are traced to the various
processes.

System analysis is concerned with becoming aware of the problem, identifying the relevant and decisional
variables, analyzing and synthesizing the various factors and determining an optimal or at least a satisfactory
solution or program of action.

System analysis and design focus on the systems, processes and technology. System analysis is the process of
gathering and interpreting facts, diagnosing problems, and using the information to recommend improvements
to the system. Analysis specifies what the system should do.

System analysis is the dissection of the system into its components pieces to study how those component pieces
interacts and works. We do a systems analysis to subsequently perform a systems synthesis. System analysis is a
term that collectively describes the early phases of systems development. There has never been a universally
accepted definition. And there has never been agreement on when analysis ends and design begins.
A detailed study of the process must be made by various techniques like interviews, questionnaires etc. The data
collected by these sources must be scrutinized to arrive to a conclusion. The conclusion is an understanding of
how the system functions. Systems analysis is the survey and planning of the system and project, the study and
analysis of the existing business and information system and the definition of business requirements and
priorities for a new or improved system. A popular synonym is logical design. Preliminary study is the process
of gathering and interpreting facts, using the information for further studies on the system.

2.2 Feasibility Study

Feasibility literally means whether some idea will work or not. It knows before hand whether there exists a
sizeable market for the proposed product/service, what would be the investment requirements and where to get
the funding from, whether and where from the necessary technical know-how to convert the idea into a tangible
product may be available, and so on. In other words, feasibility study involves an examination of the operations,
financial, HR and marketing aspects of a business on exante (Before the venture comes into existence) basis.
Thus, you may simultaneously read this lesson and the lessons on marketing, finance etc. to have a better idea
of the issues involved. What we present here under is a brief outline of the issues impinging upon the various
aspects of the feasibility of the proposed project.

SYSTEM DESIGN
3.1 INPUT DESIGN
Input design consists of developing specifications and procedures for data preparation. A starting point of input
design is a review of the information complied during the investigation or preliminary study. While designing
the input following factors are considered:
a. Content: In which type input is taken from the user.
b. Volume: The amount of data input required at any one time.
c. Time: Time refers to when input is done?
d. Media: From where data will be captured or taken?
e. Format: What will be the data type/form of input?
The objective of the input design is making details entry logical and error-free.

TESTING

4.2) TESTING PHASE

4.2.1) SOFTWARE TESTING

Software testing is critical element of software quality assurance and represents the ultimate review of
specification, design and coding. It is used to detect the errors. Testing is a dynamic method for verification and
validation, where the system to be tested is executed and the behavior of the system is observed.

The basic goal of the software development process is to produce software that has no errors or very few errors.
In an effort to detect errors soon after they are introduced, each phase ends with verification activity such as a
review.

As testing is the last phase before the final software is delivered, it has the enormous responsibility of detecting
any type of error that may in the software.

Testing
The system development life cycle involves the phases of testing and debugging after the requirement analysis,
designing and coding. The project in question was tested , debugged and implemented successfully.
Two strategies of software testing adopted for the new system are as follows:
1. Code testing
2. Specification testing

1. Code testing
Code testing was carried out to see the correctness of the logic involved and the correctness of the modules.
Tests were conducted based upon sample and live data as well. All the modules are checked separately for
assuming correctness and accuracy in all the calculations.
2. Specification testing
It examines the specification stating about what program should do and how it performs under various
conditions. This testing strategy is better strategy since it focuses on the way the software is expected to work.

4.2.2) OBJECTIVES OF TESTING

 Testing is a process of executing a program with the intent of finding an error.
 A good test case has a high portability of finding an as-yet-undiscovered error.
 Uncovers different classes of errors to save time and efforts.

4.2.3) TESTING METHODS

4.3.1.1) Black-box (Functional) Testing

Testing against specification of system or component. Study it by examining its inputs and related outputs. Key
is to devise inputs that have a higher likelihood of causing outputs that reveal the presence of defects. Use
experience and knowledge of domain to identify such test cases. Failing this, a systematic approach may be
necessary. Equivalence partitioning is where the input to a program falls into a number of classes. E.g. positive
numbers vs. negative numbers. Programs normally behave the same way for each member of a class. Partitions
exist for both input and output. Partitions may be discrete or overlap. Invalid data (i.e. outside the normal
partitions) is one or more partitions that should be tested. Test cases are chosen to exercise each portion. Also
test boundary cases (typical, extreme, zero) since these frequently show up defects. For completeness, test all
combinations of partitions. Black box testing is rarely exhaustive (because one doesn't test every value in an
equivalence partition) and sometimes fails to reveal corruption defects caused by "weird" combination of inputs.
Black box testing should not be used to try and reveal corruption defects caused, for example, by assigning a
pointer to point to an object of the wrong type. Static inspection (or using a better programming language) is
preferable for this.

4.3.1.2)White-box (Structural) Testing

Testing based on knowledge of structure of component (e.g. by looking at source code). Advantage is that
structure of code can be used to find out how many test cases need to be performed. Knowledge of the
algorithm (examination of the code) can be used to identify the equivalence partitions. Path testing is where the
tester aims to exercise every independent execution path through the component. All conditional statements are
tested for both true and false cases. If a unit has n control statements, there will be up to 2n possible paths
through it. This demonstrates that it is much easier to test small program units than large ones. Flow graphs are
a pictorial representation of the paths of control through a program (ignoring assignments, procedure calls and
I/O statements). Use flow graph to design test cases that execute each path. Static tools may be used to make
this easier in programs that have a complex branching structure. Tools like Dynamic program analyzers
instrument a program with additional code. Typically this will count how many times each statement is
executed. At the end, a print out report shows which statements had executed and which had not been executed.

4.3) TESTING STRATEGIES

4.3.1) UNIT TESTING
Unit testing focuses verification efforts on the smallest unit of software design. It is white box oriented. Unit
testing is essentially for verification of the code produced during the coding phase and hence the goal is to test
the internal logic of the module. Others consider a module for integration and use only after it has been unit
tested satisfactorily.

4.3.2) Integration Testing

The next level testing that was performed is often referred to as integration testing. During this phase many unit
tested modules were combined into subsystems, which were then tested. The goal here was to see if modules
can be integrated properly. Here the emphasis was on testing interfaces between different constituent modules
of system.
CONCLUSION

5.1) CONCLUSION

5.1.1) Domain Experience

Tata communication is working on various technologies. Also the individual responsibilities are more. So, I
have learnt a lot.
5.1.2) Exposure to entirely different technology
Working on php, javascript for the first time was a very enriching experience. I had never worked on this
platform earlier. So it added to my list of know how and the computer languages known to me.

5.1.3) Database Implementation

I had earlier made database but worked on MYSQL Server for the first time. I learnt many new things about
database creation, concept of stored procedure etc. We learn many things theoretically as part of our curriculum
but here I got a chance to apply my knowledge practically and enhance it also at the same time.

5.1.4) Implementation of User Interface Layer (UI Layer)

I have also designed the UI layer that contains the web pages designed in Html,Css and Java Script. Also it
contains the Code Behind pages to implement the programming logic. The code behind the pages is used within
the php scripting language. BLACK DIAMOND (A HOTEL WEBSITE) will be very useful for users. So at
last the conclusions regarding project is that it will be the better hotel website to show the information of this
hotel.
FUTURE SCOPE

5.2) FUTURE SCOPE

Completion of the development process will result in a software package that will provide user-friendly
environment, which is very easy to work with, even for people with very little knowledge of computer.
This software will be better in future for the newly joined employees and for the interns who can easly upgrade
this software by using their own creativity and new thoughts.
