Abstract

Disability is a concept whereby a person has limitations not only physical or


mental but rather a multi-dimensional phenomenon involving one or both. That
phenomenon limits the person to interact with his/her environment fully. Many
people think that people with disabilities have no ability to do normal activities
especially sports. At the moment a great achievement achieved by Indonesian
athlete in Paralympic Games becomes a phenomenon that breaks the thought.
The great achievement is merely known by few people due to the lack of
publicity. This research is aimed to solve that problem. Interior Design of
Paralympic Centre Using Universal Design Concept was made not only to
accommodate the publicity aspect but also can be use to reflect the equality
towards physical and psychological functioning of athlete with disabilities. The
publicity of achievement displayed through Paralympic Centre can be portrayed
as an antithesis to the negative stigma that people with disabilities are unable to
do sports. Interior Design of Paralympic Centre Using Universal Design Concept
takes a great care of accessibilities, securities, and convenience for all users.
Universal Design concept in Paralympic Centre interior design and planning is
realized through good layout arrangement, proper furniture design, and selection
of suitable elements in space forming.

Abstrak

Disabilitas adalah konsep dimana seseorang memiliki keterbatasan tidak hanya terkait
dengan fisik atau mental melainkan fenomena multi dimensi yang melibatkan salah
satu dan atau keduanya. Fenomena tersebut membatasi orang itu untuk berinteraksi
dengan lingkungan secara penuh. Banyak orang berpikir bahwa penyandang cacat
tidak memiliki kemampuan untuk melakukan aktivitas normal terutama olahraga.
Pada saat ini prestasi atlet difabel Indonesia dalam ajang Paralympic Games menjadi
fenomena yang mampu mematahkan pemikiran tersebut. Prestasi atlet difabel kurang
dikenal oleh masyarakat karena kurangnya publikasi. Untuk memecahkan masalah
tersebut dibuatlah Perancangan Interior Paralympic Centre dengan Konsep Desain
Universal. Perancangan Interior Paralympic Centre dengan Konsep Desain Universal
tidak hanya sebagai wahana publikasi namun dapat digunakan dalam mewujudkan
kesetaraan keberfungsian fisik dan psikologis atlet difabel. Publikasi prestasi atlet
difabel melalui Perancangan Interior Paralympic Centre dengan Konsep Universal
Desain sebagai antitesa atas stigma negatif bahwa penyandang disabilitas tidak
mampu melakukan aktivitas olahraga. Perancangan Interior Paralympic Centre
dengan Konsep Desain Universal sangat memperhatikan rancangan ruang yang
aksesibel, mengutamakan keamanan serta kemudahan bagi semua pengguna. Konsep
universal desain pada perancangan interior Paralympic Centre diwujudkan melalui
penataan layout yang baik, perancangan furnitur yang tepat, dan pemilihan elemen
pembentuk ruang yang sesuai.
