DATA LINK To Right Radio

PIA's B777 fleet is being upgraded to AIMS BP version 17A according to Boeing service bulletins. Recently this upgrade was incorporated on one aircraft and is planned for the rest of the fleet. The document provides background that Boeing has received reports of aircraft losing datalink capability after an upgrade and being unable to automatically resume. Subject: LOSS OF DATALINK - AIMS BLOCK POINT VERSION 17A

PIA B-777 Aircrafts (excluding AP-BMS) are installed with AIMS (Block Point version) BPv17.1. On AP- BMS AIMS
BPv16 is installed. PIA has planned to upgrade AIMS BP to v17A as per Boeing SB 777-31-0218, 777-31-0264 and
777-31-0263 on its B777 Fleet. Recently this upgrade of AIMS BPv17A is incorporated on AP-BHX and planned for
rest of the fleet in due course of time.

APPLIES TO: 777 with AIMS2 V17A

REASON: To inform flight crew of existing anomalies.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Boeing has received reports of airplanes losing datalink capability and then being unable to automatically resume
the datalink.

If SATCOM and HF datalink are not available and the airplane loses VHF coverage while transmitting a datalink
message, partial or complete loss of datalink may occur. The loss of datalink is indicated by the downlink message
state indicator remaining in SENDING.

If datalink is lost, the radio used for datalink can be used for voice only. When this occurs, datalink capability can be
recovered by selecting datalink on the alternate VHF radio.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Use of the DCMF RESET increases the possibility of a loss of datalink. .

In the event of a partial or complete loss of datalink (as identified by not being able to either Send or Receive
datalink messages), switching DATA mode from the currently selected radio to the alternate radio (i.e. VHF-Center
to VHF-Right or VHF-Right to VHF-Center) may restore datalink operation.

The following steps will change the datalink radio:

1. Go to ACARS Manager Page 2.

2. Deselect the SATCOM ENABLE and HF ENABLE (optional) checkboxes.

3. Go to the VHF Manager Page.

4. Select the alternate radio as the DEFAULT RADIO. The alternate radio will now be in VOICE mode.

5. Select DEFAULT RADIO MODE: DATA.

6. Go to ACARS Manager Page 2.

7. Select the SATCOM ENABLE and HF ENABLE (optional) checkboxes.

Allow 4 minutes to establish a VHF, SATCOM or HF link. Monitor the System Information Manager page to
determine if a VHF, SATCOM or HF link has been established.

NOTE: Depending on geographic location it may not be possible to establish a VHF link but datalink will
automatically resume over the SATCOM or HF link as available.

8. If a VHF, SATCOM or HF link is established, send an ACARS test message to confirm normal datalink operation
has been restored. Begin or resume CPDLC operations as desired.

After the flight, maintenance action will be required to restore full datalink capability.
