Dragon Ball Z: Arrival Saga Overview
Dragon Ball Z: Arrival Saga Overview
ARRIVAL
This is where things start to kick into high gear. All of
the heroes of the Earth, are considered more powerful than any
normal being on that planet. (Most normal people in Dragon
Ball and Dragon Ball Z have only 1-2 levels as commoners,
experts, or warriors if they are soldiers or police officers. As such
they are no mach the Z-Fighters.) Dragon Ball Z kicks off with
Garlic Jr. He is the son of the man who challenged Kami for the
position of Guardian of the Earth. (Garlic is immortal from a
wish from the dragon balls and is about level 9 as a martial
warrior. Garlic also has the ability to transform into a larger,
stronger and faster form. Garlic’s men are all only level 7-8
warriors/martial warriors. For more details on Garlic Jr. see his
bio under the Garlic Jr. saga.) After Gohan surprises Garlic Jr.
with his amazing amount of power, Goku and the others only have a few months to rest up before
Goku’s estranged brother Raditz lands on Earth and kicks off the Arrival Saga.
Goku
Goku was taking his 3year old son Gohan to meet his old friends Bulma, Master Roshi, Oolong
and Krillin at Master Roshi’s island home. Goku, Roshi and Krillin quickly sense the immense power of
Raditz just as he arrives. Raditz explains that he is Goku’s brother, and that Goku is a Saiyan, sent to
Earth to decimate the population, readying it for the purchase of some alien. Goku refuses to cooperate
with Raditz. With a single hit, Raditz floors Goku and takes his son who he notices has a tail. Goku is
joined by his nemesis Piccolo who has a score to settle with Raditz as well. Goku fights valiantly but is
no match for his brother. Gohan seeing and hearing his father in pain, enters into a rage, exploding out
of Raditz’s space pod. He then dashes in at Raditz with astonishing speed and energy allowing him to
break through Raditz’s Saiyan armor, dazing him. Goku takes the opportunity to grab Raditz in a full-
nelson head lock. Piccolo in the meantime has been charging up his “Special Beam Cannon” for 5
minutes. The beam is fired and kills both Goku and Raditz, whom Goku had to hold onto other wise he
would be able to dodge the blast as how he did before.
Progression: Goku kicks in 1 level higher than he was at the end of Dragon Ball, due to his fight with
Garlic Jr. Goku has been training to keep in shape, but due to having a family now, he doesn’t train as
much. After his death at the hands of Piccolo, Goku goes up another level thanks in part to his Saiyan
ability to get more out of lethal encounters. Goku has 12 levels as a Martial Warrior when he starts his
journey down Snake Way in the Other World.

Piccolo
Piccolo is off training when the Saiyan, Raditz, shows up. Raditz easily drops Piccolo with a
single move and then moves on dismissing the Namekkian as a nuisance. Piccolo of course isn’t one to
be easily dismissed in such an insulting manner. Piccolo teams up with Goku to take out the much more
powerful Saiyan Warrior. Although they are no match for him on their own, the two warriors quickly
prove to be a more than effective team. Although neither of them can get past Raditz’s defenses,
(Piccolo even lost an arm), Piccolo quickly reveals that he had a trump card. While Goku had been busy
raising a family, Piccolo had been training and had developed a special move that he had intended to use
on Goku, but was now going to use on Raditz. Goku himself had a secret, he knew of the weakness
inherent to having a tail. While Goku kept Raditz busy Piccolo began the long process to power up his
special beam cannon technique. However Raditz’s scouter detected Piccolo’s power, and moved to stop
him before he could gather enough energy to get past Raditz’s defenses. Piccolo however had already
gathered enough energy. He fired the beam cannon at Raditz, who barely dodges it; the blast singed only
his right arm, and took a chunk out of his armor. Raditz then moved in to teach Piccolo a lesson. Goku
seized the opportunity and grabbed his tail. With Raditz weakened Piccolo could easily hit Raditz with
the deadly beam cannon. However Raditz began to plea for mercy, appealing to Goku’s merciful and
soft hearted nature. Goku, believing Raditz, let go of his tail. Goku quickly paid for the action. Raditz
then promptly began to stomp Goku into the ground. Gohan, hearing the cries of pai from his father,
becomes enraged and charges at Raditz, flying in with enough energy to break through Raditz’s armor,
and dazing him. Goku seeing his chance quickly gets Raditz in a full-nelson and yells for Piccolo to fire
the beam cannon again. Piccolo knows that Goku can’t get out of the way, and takes some pleasure in
killing 2 birds with one stone. Goku is able to keep Raditz subdued long enough for Piccolo to gather
all the energy he needs. However as Raditz dies, he mentions that there are 2 more Saiyans even
stronger than him on their way to the Earth, and will be there in 1 year. After Piccolo regrow’s his arm,
he then takes the 3 year old Gohan to train, seeing the vast potential in the son of Goku, he knows that
with his enemies, sons help he could turn the tide of things. Additionally he knows that Kami has
something special in mind for Goku, and knows that he will be resurrected by his friends. Piccolo is
however starting to change at this point. Although he hates Goku, he has the utmost respect for the
Saiyan.
Progression: When Piccolo is first introduced he is a level 7 Martial Warrior. After being reincarnated
Piccolo begins to train and his level increases (level 8 Martial Warrior). After loosing to Goku a second
time Piccolo continues to train. After his Fight with Garlic Jr. Piccolo advances to level 9 as a Martial
Warrior. After this Piccolo begins to train very hard and is able to advance to level s levels (level 11
Martial Warrior), at which point Raditz shows up. After his fight with Raditz, Piccolo takes Gohan off
to begin training him (Piccolo does not advance a level after this fight.)

Raditz
The Saiyan known as Raditz is the older brother of Goku. Raditz is
surprised to see that Goku has become a peaceful person and not a “true
Saiyan warrior”. Angered by his younger brothers ineptitude, he kid naps
Gohan, and tells Goku to either join him die. To make sure that Goku gets
the point he flattens him with a single blow and flies off with Gohan. He is
even more surprised to see that Goku and Piccolo have teamed up to take
him down. However Raditz is undaunted by the pair. Using his scouter, he
reads that their power levels are far too low for them to harm him. The two
heroes quickly prove that they have a few surprises like being able to hide
their power levels from his scouter. The fight is fast and furious but neither
Goku nor Piccolo can keep pace with the superior speed of Raditz or handle his energy blasts, one of
which Goku barely dodges, but Piccolo looses his left arm. Goku occupies Raditz for about 5 minutes
so Piccolo could power up an attack. However Raditz scouter soon picks up the energy in the attack,
and Raditz moves to intercept, but Piccolo fires the attack off, which Raditz himself is barely able to
dodge. He then is caught off guard by Goku who grabs Raditz’s
tail. Raditz tricks his kind hearted brother into letting go of his tail,
he subsequently makes Goku pay for it. Gohan then suddenly
blasts out of Raditz’s space pod, and blasts into him, dazing Raditz,
and breaking his Saiyan armor. Goku quickly takes advantage of
the dazed Raditz, grabbing him in a full-nelson. Goku holds Raditz
as Piccolo powers up his beam cannon one last time and fires it,
killing both men. However Raditz informs the two with his dying
breath that 2 more Saiyans just heard everything Piccolo mentioned
about the dragon balls, and that they will arrive here in 1 year, and
that these Saiyans are far stronger than he is.
History: Eldest son of the now dead Saiyan commando unit leader,
Bardock, he was trained by his father and is a loyal follower of
Prince Vegeta.
Schticks: Hates having his tail pulled. Has extremely long black hair that falls down to knee level.

*EQUIPMENT*
Raditz has 1 scouter, 1 suit of Saiyan Armor, 1 Saiyan Space Pod.
Scouter
The Scouter is a unique piece of technology
that is capable to detecting the power level of any one
with in a 50 mile radius. There is a single button on
its side that the person uses to manually activate its
detection functions. When used to detect distant
targets it only picks up the high power signal and
directs the user to that person. Once faced with that
person, pressing the button again will cause it to scan
the persons in the immediate vicinity. The Scouter in
a sense works like a Crystal ball for characters with
out the Sense Power Feat. The scouter however is
easily fooled, and can not determine one power source form another. It also can not detect the ki of
specific individuals. Any one with the Hide Power skill need only beat a DC of 15 to fool the scouter. If
made, the individual can either hide their power level entirely from the scouters so as not to be detected,
or can reduce their power level to as low as 1 point. The scouter can be used to detect the invisible, but
can not detect the undead since they do not have ki. Scouters can also be made to detect unique energy
signatures of magic items and dragon balls. It is a standard action to use a scouter. The scouter however
can easily be broken though (5 HP, Hardness 1). Once an individual’s power level has been read the
scouter will automatically warn the user of any increases or decreases in the persons power level.
Sudden power ups, (over 50 points) however will cause the scouter to explode. Scouters are also
capable of 2 way communication between small groups; often though these communications can be
monitored by other individuals using scouters. Normal Scouters cost about 2,000 gold, Improved
Scouters (can detect other energy signatures besides ki, like magic, and can detect an invisible person)
costs 4,000 gold, and Advanced Scouters (can detect the unique energy signatures of dragon balls and
magic items) costs 8,000, they all have a Craft (Electronics) DC of 25 in order to make, or a Repair DC
of 25 to repair. If not used in a game that uses “Technology skills” then an individual needs to be able to
Craft Wondrous Items, and cast Scrying & Rary’s Telepathic Bond. For an improved scouter the person
has to be able to cast these additional spells: Detect Magic, and See Invisibility. And for the advanced
scouter the person has to be able to cast all of the previous spells plus: Locate Object, Greater Scrying,
& Discern Location. Scouters are pretty easy to make for a wizard or sorcerer of high enough level. If
DM’s prefer, double or triple the cost for scouters that are made in the normal D&D game settings.
Scouters are generally only found with Frieza’s men.
Original Battle Armor: This covers the torso, shoulders and groin. Either a
body suit, or some briefs are warn with this. It also comes with gloves and boots
in either 1 of 2 styles. One Size fits all. This armor provides an automatic
Deflection of 4d, (2d against elemental magic). It also provides a DR of 1. This
version is at first used by Raditz, Napa, and Vegeta.
Fighting Jacket: This armor is something of a newer form of battle armor. It is
not readably available for use to many of Frieza’s men. This is a full body suit
and a vest (upper body cover). It has gloves and boots. One size fits all. The
Fighting Jacket provides a Deflection of 8d (4d against elemental magic). It also
provides a DR of 2. This version is used primarily by Vegeta, first when he takes
out Jeice. Later Bulma is able to make him more of this armor.
Making the armor is a Craft (Armor) & Knowledge (Technology) check of 20 &
25. It requires some specialized machines to make. In D&D…these things are
only found with Frieza’s men, just like the scouters. Generally the armor is hard
to come by and should cost a character buying it around 10,000 gold for the old
battle armor, and 20,000 for the fighting jacket. Not though that once the armor’s
deflection is completely negated it is utterly useless when it comes to protecting
the character. (The picture to the right is of Trunks in the fighting jacket.)
Saiyan Globe-ship
This is the large ball shaped ship that is seen through out
the Saiyan and Namekkian saga’s. The ship is capable of
carrying 1 person (2 if necessary). It can support 1 person in
suspended animation for up to 1 month, or 2 people for up to 10
days, after which it needs a day to recharge. It is capable of
interplanetary travel. Its speed is relatively unknown, but it is
capable for moving from one galaxy to another. Generally
though it takes the Saiyan ship about 4-6 months to travel from 1
galaxy to another. It can go from one planet to another in about a
day. Its sensors can detect life from as soon as the pod comes
with in 100,000miles of a planet, it can detect if the planet is safe to land on as well. The pod can be
opened form deep in space if necessary and generates a protective atmospheric field so the user does not
suffocate. The ship also has a life support system that will keep a critically injured person alive, and
accelerates their healing (x2). (For you sci-fi nuts out there, the Saiyan ships speed of travel from 1
galaxy to another is at about the equivalent speed of a Star Trek ship moving at warp 7 or 8.) These
ships are generally not for sale. The ships can be remotely called from any point on the planet. They
have 30 HP, and a DR/Hardness of 20. They take 1/4th damage from fire/heat attacks, they also generate
an energy field that allows them to survive atmospheric re-entries & landings. They can stop on a dime
and create large craters when they hit the planet (the blast does 8d6 points of damage to anything in a
20ft area except for the pod.) DM’s don’t even try allowing any magic user characters to make these.
Simply put, in a D&D game, these things are not possible to make out side of specially controlled areas,
like in Forgotten Realms, the country of Thay could have the resources needed to make these.
Gohan (age 3)
The good natured Gohan is the only child of Goku and Chi Chi (for now). Gohan is an
exceptionally bright child, even at the age of 3. He is able to read and write, and is already studying
mathematics, thanks in part to his mother tutoring him at a very young age. Although highly intelligent
for a child, Gohan is also unusually powerful, even more so than Goku at times. However this power is
keyed to Gohan’s erratic and uncontrollable temper. Goku has seen Gohan tap into this power of his
only twice; once during his fight with Garlic Jr, where Gohan used his power to stave off the pull of the
“Dead Zone”, and blast Garlic Jr. into the black dimension. And a second time when Goku was injured
and being kicked around by Raditz. Gohan became so enraged that he completely obliterated Raditz’s
space ship, then powered up and flew in at Raditz with all of his power put into a single attack. The
attack was enough to breach Raditz’s armor, and daze him. The attack also gave Goku and Piccolo a
chance to defeat Raditz. After his defeat, Piccolo takes Gohan out into the wild, to train him to use his
powers. First he leaves him on his own and watches from a safe point as Gohan begins to grow, and
learns to harness his powers, and improve his strength.
Schticks: Shy, childish (he is only 3 years old after all), and timid.

*SPECIAL POWERS*
Gohan is unique in that he has a very high power level at a young age. When angered (must
either witness or hear something that is or would be upsetting to him, such as seeing a friend or loved
one hurt in any way or being in danger) Gohan literally explodes with power. Gohan’s rage is much
different than the Saiyan Rage feat. At this young age when Gohan becomes enraged he automatically
gains a power level equal to his Constitution and Wisdom scores x4, (when Gohan gains the Martial
Warrior class his starting Power Level is his Con + Wis, x3), and a +2 to his Strength! This is temporary
though, it remains in effect until Gohan attacks, until then he can take other actions with this power but
must use all of it when he attacks. Gohan expends all of this power in a single attack (using the
technique Meteor Smash’s charging attack or an area effecting energy blast, or an energy barrier). Once
Gohan has gained levels in a character class he gains the Saiyan Rage Feat for free, however the Power
Level increase is a 10% increase and not a 5% increase. Gohan can also enter a Saiyan Rage 1 more
time a day automatically with out having to select the Improved Saiyan Rage feat. Gohan does have an
additional +1 level adjustment due to his added powers. Additionally Gohan holds some unique hidden
potential that is not brought out until his encounter years later with Old Kai. This will be gone over at a
later point.
Training Rules
Training is one of the main points of Dragon Ball Z. Its how the characters gain levels and
increase their abilities. Any character can train, but characters must have the Physical training feat in
order to apply earned experience points for fighting or training toward increasing ability scores. First off
training is always dependent upon 1 main point: how strenuous of training you want to undergo.
Training for each individual is often different in many ways. The higher level they are, the harder they
have to push themselves to get better. In all technicalities there are 4 levels of training. The first type of
training is standard training, the second type is strenuous training, the third type is extreme training, and
the last type is partner training. In any of the cases the person must train for at least 8 hours a day, they
don’t gain any bonuses for training longer. Also add the characters level to the base xp gained each day
before any modifiers are used. Additionally DM’s should feel free to award extra xp as they see fit.
Standard Training: This is mainly training done by most normal individuals. It is mainly done to
develop new techniques, and maintain oneself. Characters gain 10xp per day of this type of training.
Strenuous Training: This is a much more fast paced and better from of training. This is a fairly relaxed
for of training, but is still a work out. This type of training is often what a body builder or martial artist
might do to get ready for a competition, build muscles or work on speed and techniques. Characters
gain 30xp per day of this type of training.
Extreme Training: This is the type of training Saiyans and many of the Z-Fighters enjoy. This often
entails one using techniques in such a way that they are a hazard to you. Additionally the training often
takes place in hazardous environments such as Kami’s hyperbolic time chamber or in a gravity room.
Characters gain 50xp per day of training. Different conditions however can augment this amount
however. Training in very hot or humid conditions, or in cold or freezing conditions provide a x2
modifier to that amount for each days spent training in that environment. With Gravity training, each
gravity level provides a x4 modifier, until the character is use to that gravity level, at which point they
must increase the gravity to retain the modifier. Once a character reaches their limit in Gravity they can
not continue to gain the x4 modifier, instead the modifier drops to x2.
Partner Training: This a type of training that requires a character to have a partner to train with. The
two fight each other doing only Subdual damage with all attacks (including energy blasts.) Experience
points earned is determined as such: Take the characters level that you’re training with, and multiply it
by 3, this is the amount of experience earned to that day (then you add in your own level). The two fight
until at least one of them has lost more than ½ of their HP. As such gaining experience in this way is
often the most effective way of doing things. With multiple people training together you add together
their levels then determine for a day as normal, then multiply the final amount by 2. So if a character
trains for 1 year, you would multiply the amount first by 356 days, then by 2.
Kami reviles (at first in a serious tone, then just blurts it out) that he taught Goku nothing, that
everything Goku did while he was up there he did on his own. Mr. Popo however introduces everyone
to the Pendulum room, where the enter the dream world and attempt to do battle just with a couple of
ordinary Saiyans. They get their butts kicked. After seeing and learning just what they are truly up
against they redouble their efforts. Mean while Goku is having one big adventure on Snake Way. First
he falls off of Snake Way while trying to sleep on the back of the roads cleaning machine. He falls
down through the clouds to HFIL. Here is brokers a deal with the two ogers in charge of the place. If he
can beat Mez in a race they will show him the way back onto the road. Goku only has to catch Mez,
who is just as fast as Goku. After staking a break near a fruit tree Goku learns from Mez that the true
holds fruit that works along the same lines as the senzu beans, only much stronger. Goku forms a plan
and makes a beeline for the tree. Mez flips out since no one except for King Yemma is allowed to eat
the fruit. Goku is chased around the tree then suddenly turns around and grabs Mez. Although he
tricked the oger, he still won. With that Goku is shown the way back to the road, however he also
reveals that he had grabbed one of the fruit from the tree and promptly ate it, then took off up the stairs
he was shown. However Goku himself was duped and ended up inside King Yemma’s desk, and had to
start all over again; so Goz and Mez had the last laugh in the end. Goku’s next encounter was with the
enchanting Princess Snake.
Here Goku was given a chance to eat, and rest, he even was allowed to take a “dip” in the hot
springs. However Goku was driven to continue on his way, but since Princess Snake hadn’t had a visitor
in over 1,500 years she wasn’t egger to let him go. She drug’s him with some “sleepy grass” (puts a
victim to sleep for 1d8+1 hours when ingested, and Fort save is failed. The Fort save DC is 30. If the
save is made the victim is rendered unconscious for only 1d8+1 rounds.) Once Goku is asleep she uses
a magical item called a dream mirror to look into Goku’s dreams to see what it is that he is in such a
rush to leave for. She see’s that he has a family that he care’s very deeply for. Undaunted still, she is
force to show her true form when Goku has had enough and realizes that she is trying to hold him here.
Goku suddenly finds all of the snake women, the house and Princess Snake, fusing into 1 colossal snake
form, with Goku in its stomach. Goku quickly powers up and takes flight heading out of the Snakes
mouth in a matter of seconds. In the open air Goku is perused by the snake that can move across the
clouds with out falling through. Not needing to waist anymore time, Goku fly’s around in an odd pattern
with the snake right behind him, suddenly it can’t move.
Goku’s erratic flight pattern cause the snake to form a series of loops in on itself thus tying it up.
At first Goku was thinking about just blasting the snake, but since she was nice enough to feed him and
let him rest he couldn’t do such a thing. After a few more days of being on the long and twisting road,
Goku finally reaches the end. Off in the distance he see’s King Kai’s small planet. Goku quickly flies
up to the small planet but is quickly pulled into it by the planets heavy gravity. Goku meets King Kai,
along with Bubbles the monkey, and Gregory the grasshopper. Goku is put to the test, he has to tell a
good joke, catch Bubbles, and hit Gregory with a heavy mallet, all on a planet that has 10x the Earths
natural gravity. Goku also learns about the Saiyans from King Kai. With all of this done, Goku has 118
days left to learn the Kaioken Attack and the one technique created by King Kai, that he himself could
not master: The Spirit Bomb. (Also known as the Genki Doma in Japan.) Finally the day comes and the
Saiyans arrive on Earth. King Kai miscalculated in his time and had forgotten that it will take Goku
about 2 days to run back across Snake Way to meet Kami who will take him back to Earth.
Mean while the Z-Fighters have already lost Yamcha to a creature called a Saibamen, little green
creatures that grow from little seeds that are planted in the ground and have a green gel dripped on
them. The Saiyans, Vegeta, and Napa sand back and watch the fun. Angered, Krillin attacks with one of
his new techniques that is able to take out all of the Saibamen. With the games over Napa steps up and
gets things started. Chiaotzu tries a fool hardy “Self-Detonation” technique to try and kill Napa in one
fell swoop, but underestimates the Saiyans armor, and toughness. Tien looses an arm to Napa’s deadly
“calroon” punch, but is able to get in one final energy blast, putting all of his power and life force into
the attack. Napa however is able to react to it in time. With the group down to Gohan, Piccolo and
Krillin, things are bleak. Piccolo formulates a plan where Krillin distracts him, he grabs Napa’s tail and
Gohan attacks him head on with everything he’s got. The plan works at first, until Napa demonstrates
that he and Vegeta have evolved beyond the effects of that weakness. Piccolo and Krillin both pay the
price for their actions. Gohan strikes at Napa with surprising force, enraging Napa. Napa then powers
up an energy blast capable of killing Gohan. Piccolo seeing this, flashes back to his time training Gohan
and the promise he had made, to make sure that nothing happened to him. With all of his speed, Piccolo
Jumps in front of Gohan to intercept the attack, putting all of his energy into deflecting Napa’s attack.
Piccolo succeeds in saving Gohan, but dies himself. Now truly enraged at the loss of his mentor,
Gohan’s hidden power erupts and he powers up his Mesenko energy blast, putting all he’s got into it
(which isn’t much), which Napa deflects away, but admits that it made his arm go numb.
As he is about to finish off Gohan Goku quickly arrives rescuing Gohan and Krillin, giving them
both half a large senzu bean. Goku quickly finds out what has happened and quickly deals with Napa.
With Napa down but not dead, Vegeta moves in to help his…friend. Vegeta quickly reminds Napa that
he does not tolerate failure, and finishes him off by tossing him into the air and blasting him. Goku and
Vegeta then move a better area to fight. There Goku quickly discovers how powerful Vegeta really is,
and is force to use the Kaioken attack to keep pace with him. The two go toe to toe and Vegeta, angered
flies into the air and powers up his Galic gun attack, Goku counters with the Kamehameha. The two
struggle until Goku is force to use the Kaioken x4. Vegeta, knowing that he has no other choice, uses a
technique created by Goku’s father to create a ball of energy that acts like a full moon. Vegeta
transforms and quickly starts smacking Goku around. Goku escapes Vegeta and begins to gather Energy
for the Spirit Bomb. Vegeta however finds Goku and puts an end to this causing Goku to loose half of
the energy he had gathered.
Krillin and Gohan show up, Gohan distracts Vegeta, while Krillin uses his destructo disk to cut
off Vegeta’s tail. The attack misses, but Yajirobe, who had been hiding all the while, didn’t miss and
was able t surprise Vegeta and remove the tail reverting Vegeta back to normal. Gohan keeps Vegeta
occupied while Krillin gets the Spirit Bomb from the badly injured Goku. Krillin’s attack with the Spirit
Bomb misses, but Gohan is able to bounce it back at Vegeta, where it blasts him into the air. Vegeta
however is not dead yet and has enough energy still to kill everyone. Gohan is dropped first, but quickly
see’s the energy moon still floating in the sky, Gohan’s tail has also regrown during this time. Gohan
transforms regardless of Vegeta’s actions. Gohan quickly turns his attention on Vegeta. Badly injured
himself, Vegeta is able to cut Gohan’s tail of with his own energy blade. Vegeta calls for his ship to get
him out of there, and at the behest of Goku, Krillin lets Vegeta go. Everyone gets their chance to rest
and recover, while Bulma and Mr. Popo find a ship to take them all to planet Namek where King Kai has
revealed are more dragon balls.

Skills: King Kai has a variety of knowledge skills in virtually every area, he even has a special Jokes &
Puns skill. King Kai has a decent Tumble skill rating, but his skills are more centered on his high
Wisdom than anything else.
Powers: King Kai has a large variety of powers at his disposal. King Kai can at will create any object
he desires (including magical objects,& ki enhanced clothing), he can also create materials like bricks,
and even metals like titanium, steel and so on, he can also create food if need be. This food holds the
same properties as healing potions and will slowly restore a persons health. Additionally he has a
number of Techniques at his disposable equal to a martial warrior of the same level. King Kai is capable
of communicating telepathically with anyone he so desires, even across dimensions. He is also capable
of using his antennae to allow him to see anywhere in the universe so-long as he concentrates. Anyone
touching him can see these things as well, and he can allow the person to make use of his telepathy as
well. King Kai is also capable of using the Instant Transmission technique even though his power level
is technically not high enough to allow him to do so, (King Kai needs less energy to use the technique,
reduce all ki costs to use by ½). Additionally King Kai has the power to reduce the power level of any
one he so desires with out their knowledge (the person must make a Sense power check DC 35). King
Kai can reduce the person’s power level by ½. King Kai however is only able to do this against evil
aligned beings. These individuals get no saving throw at all. Apart of all of this King Kai has 1
Technique that he can not use and 1 that he can, but knows how they work and how to teach a person to
use them; they are the Kaioken Attack, and the Spirit Bomb. Any character wishing to pick up the
Kaioken attack feat must learn it from King Kai or someone who already knows how to use it; King Kai
can use this technique himself. King Kai however does can not use the Spirit Bomb attack, but can
teach it to some one.
King Kai’s Planet: King Kai’s planet is a high
gravity planet at the end of Snake Way. A person
needs to be able to either fly or leap at least 100ft in
order to get caught by the planets gravity. The
planet boast 10x the Earth’s natural gravity (see the
“Gravity Room” under the “Guardian prestige
class” for details on gravity). Any normal person on
that planet would be crushed flat. But exceptional
beings are able to move around, even if labored to
do so. That is until they become use to the gravity.
King Kai trains fighters in 2 ways. First they must
catch his pet monkey, Bubbles, next they have to his
assistant Gregory with a mallet. This is no easy
task mind you. Bubbles is use to the high gravity
and is able to move around very quickly. Gregory is even faster, and smaller, and the mallet used is
often very heavy, especially when its weight is increased by a factor of 10. Once a fighter has passed
these tests, they of course will be stronger and faster, but it is possible for them to learn one of his 2
special techniques.

Lesser Kai’s
In the later episodes of DBZ Goku is able to meet the 3 other Kai’s beyond King Kai. There is
North Kai, South Kai, East Kai and West Kai. Each of these lesser Kai’s governs over a portion of the
universe. At any point there are only 4 lesser Kai’s. These Kai’s come in different sizes and skin colors
although their basic appearances are still akin to big cockroaches. North Kai looks over the portion of
the universe where the Milky Way galaxy as well as where several other galaxies are located, which
include planets like Namek, and Frieza’s home world. North Kai’s are generally the most powerful of
the lesser Kai’s, their part of the universe also produces some of the most powerful fighters. North Kai’s
are exceptionally wise and have a +5 bonus to their Wisdom score. South Kai’s are often the shortest of
the Kai’s. They also have some exceptionally powerful fighters. South Kai’s are often arrogant but
highly intelligent gaining a +5 to their Intelligence Score. East Kai’s are often very vain and have a +5
to Charisma. They have some of the weakest fighters come from their corner of the universe. Finally
there is West Kai. West Kai’s are generally the tallest of them all as well as physically being the
strongest gaining a +5 to Strength. All Kai’s have the same powers as each other. They can at will
create any object they desire from weapons to weights and weighted clothing. Lesser Kai’s do not age at
all, and can easily live for millions of years. (Although they don’t really get any more powerful so much
as newer Kai’s some how come into being to take over for Kai’s ready to retire.) It’s unknown if the
Lesser Kai’s evolve into other types of Kai’s. No other lesser Kai knows the Kaioken attack or the Spirit
Bomb, these are unique to North Kai only, although each Kai may have their own special techniques
akin to these two, but not as powerful.
If sentient beings such as humans donate energy they must raise their arms up as well, as such the
character can draw in an additional 10 points of ki per each normal human that does this. From other
martial warriors, or beings with high power levels, the character is able to draw upon half of that
person’s power level, even if they have already spent it. Any one who does this is fatigued right
afterwards. As stated before the Spirit Bomb has 2 main uses. The first use is the bomb attack itself.
This attack initially creates an energy sphere in the air with a 5ft diameter. The size of the ball increases
by 5ft each round. The size of the ball determines how large an area is affected. The attack
automatically has the following effects: Homing (it gains a +1 t hit for every 10 ft in diameter in size it
is), & Ignore Hardness/Armor. A deflection can be raised to try and defend against the attack. Under
such conditions the defender must match point for point all of the ki in the attack.
This can negate part of the damage or all of the damage. Then of course there are the power struggles, at
which point if the character can transform they may do so as long as they do not become angry, (Any
damage bonuses to energy waves for transforming are added into the Spirit Bomb, the character can also
put in their own energy as well.) The Spirit Bomb does require an attack roll to hit at the characters
highest base attack bonus, they do however gain a bonus to hit for every 10ft in size the ball of energy is.
So if the ball is 30ft big, then the character is at a +3 to hit with it. The attack only harms evil beings,
those that are good are not harmed by the attack, however if they fnd themselves the sudden target of a
missed attack they may attempt to make a Reflex Save (DC 20) to try and rebound the attack, (if the
person is lawful good then the DC decreases by 5).
After which if the attack is rebounded it will fly back at its intended target and may make a new attack
roll with the same bonuses, however the target must make a Sense Motive Check (DC 30) to even notice
that the attack has been rebounded and is coming at them again. If they fail the save they are
automatically hit by the attack. If they make the save then an attack roll for the energy blast is needed
again, but this time the target is denied their Dexterity bonus to AC. Targets with the Evasion or
Improved Evasion feature (or other like ability), may only make a reflex save for half damage no mater
what. All target of the spirit bomb may try to deflect it, or make a reflex save to get out of the way (Half
Damage). The DC for a Reflex save is equal to the characters level +10. Lastly if the character is
attacked while they are gathering energy for the Spirit Bomb they loose an equal amount of energy from
the spirit bomb equal to the damage done, times 2.
Example: Goku spends 5 round gathering energy for the Spirit Bomb while Vegeta recovers from a
blinding attack made by Goku. Goku has gathered about 300 points of ki for the attack, but its enough
to take out Vegeta. However before Goku can launch his attack, Vegeta has recovered and taken an
attack of opportunity on Goku, in a few rounds Goku struggles to hold onto the remnants of energy in
the attack, but ends up loosing half of the energy from the attack.
Under circumstances where the character may not be able to continue to fight they can still try to hold
onto the energy by making a Will check, (DC is 10 +1 for every 10 points of ki in the attack).
Additionally the power can be passed onto another person to use in the characters stead, so long as the
character takes a round to explain how it works. The attack roll is made normally. Passing on the
energy is simple and only requires a willing subject of good alignment.
Example Continued: An injured Goku is not able to move, his legs are broken and he has some cracked
ribs. He’s not unconscious, but can’t continue to fight. Luckily Goku is very strong willed and Krillin is
near by. Goku gives Krillin the energy and tells him to wait for the right moment. Krillin holds an
action to hit Vegeta when he is open. When that time comes Krillin makes his attack roll as a surprise
attack, but he still misses Vegeta. Gohan was directly in front of Vegeta, who has taken to the air as part
of his evasion of the attack. Gohan, being pure hearted and lawful good is able to easily rebound the
attack back at Vegeta catching him completely by surprise. A 150 point Spirit Bomb attack slams into
Vegeta, who uses some of the last bits of his energy to survive the attack. Vegeta Failed his Reflex save,
but he has had a deflection raised, and he just puts a bit more energy into it. The 150 points of energy is
reduced by 70 more points, reducing its energy to 80 points, as such it only deals 4d20 points of damage
against Vegeta, who after all of the hard fighting already is now almost as badly injured as Goku.
The other use of the Spirit Bomb is to absorb all of the energy. This happens only if the character is able
to transform. The character draws in all of the energy gathers and projects a field of energy up to 3ft
away from their body, any attacks directed at the character are nullified, melee attacks deal damage to
the attack equal the amount of damage in their own melee attack times 2. The character can then choose
to release all of that absorbed energy in a single burst, often in the form of a melee attack. The damage
of the melee attack is that of the characters normal melee attack, but they gain a +1d20 to damage of the
attack for every 50 ki points that they have absorbed. Additionally the characters body can only handle
so much power. The character can only safely absorb an amount of energy equal to their power level,
but for every 50 points beyond that they must make a Fortitude Save with a DC equal to 10 + 3 points
for every 50 points absorbed beyond the characters power level. Goku has only done this once. The
energy gathered can only be held for a number of round equal to the characters Constitution modifier +1
before the energy contained with in their body will detonate. The energy must be released with in that
time (done by attacking an opponent with the brunt of the energy, or releasing it in a blast of energy into
the sky, or the surrounding area.) Failing the Fortitude check means that the character will explode with
the energy 1 round after it is absorbed. (The amount of energy in the blast is equal to the characters
energy plus the Spirit Bomb.) The absorbed energy is sort added to the characters over all Power Level
only that their Power Up is N/A now, meaning that while the energy is contained with in their body they
can draw out as much as needed up to the characters normal Power level.)
Example: Goku is battling Super Android 13. Goku is bought time to create a Spirit Bomb with over
400 ki in it. As normal Goku’s power level is just over 350, but as a Super Saiyan his power level is just
over 400. (Super Android 13 has a Power level at about 350 to 400.) Upset that his friends are being
flung about like nothing, Goku transforms forgoing the risk involved in an effort to gather energy faster.
Transforming alters the way Goku is gathering energy so he begins to absorb the energy of the Spirit
Bomb. Goku could only safely absorb 300 points, meaning that there is 200 points left that he absorbs.
His Fortitude check DC is 22, a simple task for our epic hero, but it’s still pushing it for him at this
point. Goku makes his check. Now empowered with the Spirit Bombs energy, Goku’s power level is
now over 800. Goku releases the brunt of that pent up energy against Super Android 13 in a single
powerful punch that goes right through his body. Goku however only uses up about 400 points of this
energy in this attack, enough to bypass its deflection. Goku has about 100 points left contained with in
his body. Goku releases that energy into the surrounding area away from his friends affecting only the
remains of Super Android 13.
In addition to all of this the Spirit Bomb does have its own requirements. First off it can only be used
once every 2 weeks. The living things that give their energy need time to recover. Only in desperate
times may a second Spirit Bomb be made. As such most things of nature will sense the desperation of
the hero and the great danger that they face (which should be something really evil and able to all but
end the world as the heroes know it.) During such times all things of nature are willing to give even
more to fell a great evil. If used a second time with in that week, nature suffers for it as animals, crops,
trees and such become weakened and sickly, but they recover within 2 weeks. The spirit bomb can not
be wielded again for a month if used twice. The Spirit Bomb can only be taught by a Kai, particularly
North Kai. The Spirit Bomb can only be created by a person who is lawful good. Only 1 being at a time
may know the Spirit Bomb Technique, any more than that could destroy nature if they are used
consecutively by 2 or more people. When a person creates a Spirit Bomb, the more energy gathered in it
the easier it is to sense that power; however individuals who know the Spirit Bomb Technique can sense
a person who is creating one from any point on the planet instinctively. The Spirit Bomb is learned in
the place of a normal technique selection.
(In the series, excluding the movies which follow a different continuity, Goku only uses the Spirit Bomb
technique a total of 4 times in his life.)
1) After learning it from King Kai.
2) On Vegeta in their first encounter.
3) On Frieza when fighting on planet Namek.
4) On Kid Majin Buu on the home world of the Supreme Kai.
Goku
Progression: After all of his exploits on Snake Way Goku goes up 1 level (Level 13 Martial Warrior,
going across Snake Way is considered strenuous training). After this he spends 158 days training hard
under King Kai’s guidance, (extreme training under 10x gravity for 158 days, Goku is a level 14 martial
warrior/level 1 great champion when he leaves King Kai’s planet) He then races back across Snake Way
in 2 days, and Flies down to take on Napa and Vegeta. Goku’s fight with Napa is brief, so he doesn’t
really gain anything from it. After his fight with Vegeta, Goku advances 1 level (14 Martial Warrior/2
Great Champion).

Strenuous/Partner training.) Piccolo trains hard like
this off and on for about half the year. Once Gohan
is ready, Piccolo begins training Gohan, and getting
a bit of training in him self. (Piccolo really gains
nothing from training Gohan, and as such its not
counted in his advancement xp earned for the year.
Instead xp is earned as if he had been training with
his “clone” for 1 year, which he most likely did on a regular basis when not teaching Gohan how to
fight.) Piccolo advances 2 levels by the time Napa and Vegeta arrive on the planet (level 13 Martial

changes to Chaotic Good (Was Lawful Evel, then while training Gohan his alignment shifted to Lawful
Neutral, then after sacrificing his life to save Gohan, Piccolo redeems his past evil deeds in a sense and
becomes Chaotic Good. He’s not Lawful Good as of yet; he is still abrasive and stand offish, but he is
not about to blast someone for looking at him wrong.)

After seeing Gohan’s vast potential and incredible power, Piccolo decides that in order to defeat
the 2 Saiyans coming to Earth, Gohan will have to join the fight. Even though he is only 4 years old,
Gohan quickly proves that he is not only a quick learner, but he is able to use his energy very quickly as
he nears the end of his “survival” training. During this time Gohan has a few little adventures on his
own, including one that takes him no more than 50yards from his home. Gohan could have given up at
this point, gone back home to his mother and taken it easy, but Gohan knows that he is needed and that
there are more than just a few people depending on him. So Gohan turns around and runs away, only to
encounter Piccolo who questions Gohan about his mission. Gohan begins to train hard, pushing himself
much harder than Piccolo. With in 1 year Gohan’s powers grow much more quickly than those of any of
the other Z-Fighters. When Gohan faces off against Napa he is stricken with fear most of the time and is
not capable of even defending himself. Eventually Gohan finds hi courage, but only when its too late to
help some of the others, including Piccolo. By the end of the Saiyan saga, Gohan personally blames
himself for the deaths of Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien and Chiaotzu, and is
driven to make amends for not having the strength to help fight.

Nappa
The large Saiyan known as Nappa was once the General of the entire Saiyan army, of course that
was before the Saiyans were all but whipped out. Nappa is the loyal follower of Vegeta, and the second
strongest Saiyan alive, until Goku arrives. Nappa is powerful
enough to take on practically all of the Z-Fighters on his own,
and he even kills 4 out of 6 of them (both directly and indirectly).
Nappa is eventually taught a lesson by Goku when he arrives, but
he is ultimately killed by his “trusted” master, Vegeta for failing
to defeat the lesser Saiyan. Nappa was the tallest Saiyan left
alive at 7ft tall. (Vegeta is the smart one, Raditz had style, and
Nappa practically has rabbis. At one point Vegeta makes the
comment, “Remind me to get you de-wormed.”)

*EQUIPMENT*
Nappa has 1 scouter, 1 suit of Saiyan Armor, 1 Saiyan Space Pod, Saibamen Vile (6 seeds).
Saibamen
These little green monsters are Nappa’s
only personal army. They are grown from seeds
solely for the purpose of fighting. They are
savage, have no free will, but are innately
cunning.
Combat
In combat, Saibamen do as they are told by the one who grew them. The follow orders to the
best of their abilities and attack with savage fervor. (All abilities are natural or extraordinary.)
Power Level: Saibamen have a Power Level equal to a Martial Warrior with the same number of
Hit Dice. (Saibamen have 6d8+30 HD, so they would have a power level equal to a level 6
Martial Warrior. This effects the range and amount of damage the Saibamen can do with an
energy blast.)
Energy Blast: Saibamen are capable of using the energy blast technique. They can only use that
technique and no others, they aren’t smart enough for it.
Damage Reduction: Saibamen have a DR of 2/--.
Immunity: Since Saibamen are virtually mindless drones, they are immune to mind effecting
spells, charms and powers.
Limited Life Span: Saibamen have a limited life span of only a few days (1d4 days), after that
they wither up and die. It takes a Saibamen 1d4 rounds to grow from where they were planted.
In their seed form they can be easily carried around and planted when needed. New seeds can
not be harvested from the dead bodies of Saibamen.
Artificial Life Form: Saibamen are artificially created. (The specifics of how this is done I’d
just as soon leave up to your DM.) As an artificial life form the Saibamen can not be the target
of age effecting spells, negative energy attacks, energy drains, toxins, poisons and diseases can
not effect them at all.
*Self Detonation: This is a technique that any being is capable of performing. It is however not
something just any one can do at any time. The character using this technique must either be in
proximity to their target, or be grabbing their target. The character then powers up and expends all of
their energy at once. Regardless of how much the character’s power up rating is; damage of the blast is
equal to how much energy the character has left at their disposal. The damage of the blast is based upon
the rules for an ordinary energy blast. The detonation affects an area using the rules for the Area Effect.
Damage is applied to both the person detonating and the target to be affected. The target however gets
to make a standard saving throw (see energy blast technique), or make use of their Deflection ability, (as
was the case with Nappa and Chiaotzu, although Chiaotzu didn’t have a lot of energy to begin with.)
Vegeta
The prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta has the mannerisms, and demeanor
of a prince. Vegeta has survived through many things, the worst of which, as
far as he would be concerned, would be putting up with being mocked and
pushed around by other warriors of Frieza. Vegeta is one of those opponents
you should never judge by appearance. Physically he is about a foot shorter
than Goku, and a foot and a half taller than Krillin. Vegeta is the most driven
and hardened of the remaining Saiyans, he is the prince after all. Vegeta also
is of the direct bloodline of the last Super Saiyan. Vegeta is boastful and
arrogant, but he is not one to underestimate his opponents. Additionally
Vegeta does have some shreds of honor and respect for his opponents, but
does not tolerate weakness. When Nappa asked Vegeta for his help, Vegeta
immediately saw Nappa as being weak and helped to end his pain. After his
defeat at the hands of Goku, Krillin, and Gohan, Vegeta escapes thanks in part
to Goku himself, who stopped Krillin out of respect for Vegeta. Vegeta, like
Nappa, had a tail, but his was cut off by sneak attack from Yajirobe.
Personality: Evil, arrogant, mocking, but always polite (go figure). Utterly
Ruthless.
Progression: At the beginning of the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta is a level 18 character. At the end of the
Saiyan Saga however he is still a level 18 character, but is close to level 19.

*Power Moon: This is a special technique known only by Vegeta. This technique works like the
Blinding Flash technique in its energy cost to use. However its effects are of course different. The
character creates a small ball of energy that they fire into the sky. Once it reaches its maximum distance
into the air the character performs slight gesture and he ball suddenly stops and seems to explode. In
fact it really suddenly emits light. But not any light, moon light. A Saiyan who looks directly at the
Power Moon is able to transform into their Oozaru form at anytime of day, even underground if needed.
The Range is used only to determine how high up in the sky it is, after that the light is shown over an
area equal to double that. So long as the Saiyan, and/or any were-creatures are with in this area they
gain any benefits for being under a full moon. The power moon shines light for 1 minute per 5 ki in the
attack (again it uses the ki cost rules for the Blinding Flash). The power moon does have 1 draw back, it
can be destroyed. Every 5 ki points in the attack provides it with 2 HP. It has an AC equal to 10 +1 per
every 25ft in the air it is. Once the power moon has been destroyed anything under its effects
immediately returns to normal.
The Ginyu Saga starts when the group on Namek starts fighting with the Ginyu Force. (The
groups first real Epic fight). Guldo (A bit lower level than the characters) is of course a push over, but
the rest of the team isn’t. Recoome is the first up and he isn’t exactly human, even though he looks it.
Recoome is more than enough to take out Vegeta, Krillin and Gohan, but is no match for the speed and
physical might of Goku. Goku then takes on Burter and Jeice with ease. After taking out Burter and
Jeice gets Ginyu, Vegeta steps in and finishes off the two fighters. When Ginyu arrives Goku is still
more than a match for him, until Ginyu uses his body change technique.
This part will see even more “specialized techniques” of certain characters like Recoome’s
Eraser Gun, Ginyu’s Body Change. Again though some character’s will only get a mention in level
advancement rather than a full blown write up of their increase. Of course only the really important
characters will get that sort of write up. Eventually though I’ll do a write up showing “where they are
now”. That will most likely happen at the Android Saga point of things.
