The history of VW bug began in the second world war, when Adolf Hitler wanted not only a cheap
car but also that won´t were water-cooled.
This masterpiece was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, and not only that, he also designed 380
designs.
The first design called “type 32” carry on a 1470cc air cooled engine, running at 110 km/h but with
a noisy sound it became in a failure. After that Ferdinand Porsche got the sponsorship of Adolf
Hitler. The Fuhrer knowing about cars asked for certain specification such as:
Four seats car.
Air-cooled engine.
1 liter capacity.
7 liters per 100 kms.
Fast acceleration.
For Hitler, his gal was made 1 million cars by a year, so he started to build his own factory, in 1938
born one of the most exclusive and expensive VW worldwide, the KDF-Wagen.
1948 was an important year for VW, when Mr. Heinrich Norhoff arrived in Wolfburg to manage
the German company and in front of 8,400 employees said “It’s up to each and every one of us
that the name of Volkswagen rises to the highest heights or sinks into the deepest precipice”.
The 1,000 Volkswagen was built during March of 1946 coming from assembly line, in short words,
the VW sedan Split Window.
Talking about the first cars build by them, we can to name military vehicles like
Kommanderwagen, the Schwimmwagen (amphibious car), or the Kubelwagen (VW Safari); there
are the most expensive now a days, but the most exclusive is de KDF wagen, there are not more
than 100 copies around the world, but if you want to get it´s keys just have to pay $275.000 USD.
Here in Colombia we have a good prestige around the world to restore this kind of cars, many
foreign come to an events and buy a VW and export it, especially to EEUU and Germany. Here you
can find and Oval Window in $30 million COP, but in USA one in a good shape between $18-$25
thousand USD.
