Dear Parents and Guardians, August 28, 2020

Now that we have begun the first week of this school year, I would like to introduce myself. My
name is Julie Hawkins and I am your child’s 3rd grade teacher. This is my first year teaching,
but have worked alongside teachers in the classroom for the past five years. I completed my
undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and am currently pursuing my master’s degree
from the same institution. I cannot wait to work with your student this year!
I want this school year to be successful for your student. Throughout the year, I will send home
newsletters to keep you informed about classroom activities, events, and opportunities for your
involvement. You child will bring home a daily folder with this information, graded assign-
ments, homework instructions, and notes from me. In our classroom, I will work to build a com-
munity of respect and recognize appropriate behavior. We have created a social contract as a
class so that we are all aware of rules and expectations. This will discussed at Back-To-School
Night as well as in my first month’s newsletter. There will be many opportunities for parent/
guardian involvement throughout the school year, and we would love to have you volunteer in
our classroom. If you are interested, I will provide more information later on.
This year’s Back-To-School Night is scheduled for next Thursday, September 3, from 6:30 pm
to 8:30 pm. Our Principal will talk to all the parents in the auditorium until 6:50 pm, then you
will have the opportunity to come see your child’s classroom, room 206. I will be there to dis-
cuss our curriculum for the year, the instructional approaches I will employ, our classroom poli-
cies, and answer any questions you may have. I encourage you to attend the Back-To-School
Night so that you have the opportunity to understand your child’s learning this year and become
familiar with me. Your student will also be excited to show you this huge part of their life!
As I stated. I want to keep open communication and for your to feel as if you can contact me
with any questions or concerns. My conference period is daily from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. You
can also call me from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at 555-5349. My email is jhawkins@csisd.org and I
will respond within 24 hours during the week. Please contact me at any point in regards to your
student and our classroom.
Education is not
With your help, I hope to make this school year
memorable and successful or your student. I am looking preparation for life;
forward to meeting you at the Back-To-School Night.
education is life itself.
Sincerely,
- John Dewey
Ms. Hawkins

I have read this newsletter and am aware of Back-To-School Night. I will read and familiarize
myself with the expectations for Ms. Hawkins’ classroom this year, and discuss it with my child.
