Isbt in Terms of Functionality

The document discusses proposed guidelines for improving the design and functionality of Inter State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) in India. It outlines the objectives to study factors influencing ISBT placement, design parameters, pedestrian and transport circulation patterns, and ways to minimize incompatible passenger flows. The scope of the study includes connectivity between transport modes, ridership requirements, technological systems, bus parking regulations, circulation patterns, economic uses, waiting areas, ticketing, and access points. The methodology involves literature review, case studies, observation, and proposing results. Limitations are due to time constraints.

1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 AIM:
TO STUDY AND PROPOSE NEW DESIGN GUIDELINES TO CONSTRUCT/ IMPROVE THE
ISBT IN TERMS OF FUNCTIONALITY.

1.2 OBJECTIVE:
1. TO STUDY THE FACTOR’S THAT INFLUENCE THE PLACEMENT OF ISBT.

2. TO STUDY THE ASSORTED PARAMETER OF THE DESIGN.

3. TO STUDY THE CIRCULATION PATTERN AND ISSUES OF PEDESTRAIN

AND TRANSPORT MOVEMENT IN ISBT.

4. TO MINIMIZE THE INCOMPATIBLE FLOW OF PASSANGERS AND MAKING A

MINIMUM DISRUPTION ZONE FOR THE OPERATIONAL COMPONENTS.

1.3 NEED OF STUDY:

1. DUE TO INCREASING GROWTH IN URBAN CENTER AND IN ITS NCR SPACE, WE
WANT TO WORK OUT THE NECESSITY FOR ISBT.

2. DUE TO INCREASING NUMBERS OF VEHICHELS IN URBAN CENTER.

3. FOR THE INCREASING VARIETY OF ROAD CIRCULATION IN URBAN CENTER.

1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

THE STUDY FOR ‘THE APRAISAL OF THE DESIGN OF ISBT’ IS INDISPUTABLY A
BIG AND EXCITING CHANCE FOR INTRODUCING NEW DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR AN
INTERSATE BUS TERMINAL, WHICH WILL ENHANCE THE TERMINAL
CONTRIBUTION TO THE URBAN ENVIROMENT AND IMPROVE THE EXPERINCE OF
THE PASSANGERS AT THE BUS TERMINAL.

1. INTER CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN VARIOUS MODES OF TRANSPORT

(METRO,AIRPORT,ETC.)
2. FRAMING REQUIREMENTS FOR A MAX. NO. OF RIDERS PER DAY IN EACH
DIRECTIONS.
3. STUDYING THE ASSORTED TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT WITHIN THE FIELD
OF SURVEILLENCE SYSTEM, COMMUNICATION,SYSTEM, FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM,
ETC.
4. BUS PARKING BAYS BYE LAWS.
5. CIRCULATION PATTERN- PATTERN FLOW OF PASSENGERS AND BUSES.
6. PHISIBLITY OF ECONOMIC SPACE.
7. WAITING SPACE.
8. TICKECT COUNTERS.
9. ENTRY AND EXIT FOR DEPOT.
10. PUBLIC PARKING
11. FOOD COURT
12. ACCES POINTS INTO ISBT

1.5 LIMITATION
DUE TO THE SHORTAGE OF THE TIME, MY STUDY IS RESTRICTED TO
THE DECLARED ASPECTS.

1.6 METHODOLOGY
APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM – LITERATURE REVIEW OF THE PROBLEM -
LITERATURE STUDY – CASE STUDY – OBSERVATION – PROPOSAL AND RESULT

1.7 LITERATURE REVIEW

INTER STATE BUS TERMINAL [ISBT]; IS A BUS TERMINAL THAT PROVIDES PUBLIC
BUS SERVICE CORPORATION TO DESTINATIONS LOCATED IN OTHER STATES. AN
ISBT MAY ADDITIONALLY GIVE BUS SERVICES TO DESTINATIONS WITHIN
THE SAME STATE.

1.7.1 BYE LAWS FOR BUS TERINAL

1. BAY WIDTH
A BAY BREADTH OF 10’[3M] SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR SAFE TYING UP OF BUSES.

2. PLATFORM BREADTH
The width of paltform depends upon the kind parking of buses.
For, 45o bay 100’
90o bay 70’

3. PASSAGE FOR BUS

For two lanes passage, suggested passage of atleast 6-8 M wide ought to run

4. TURNING RADIUS OF BUS

For a bus of 36’[10.98 M] length, a turning radius of atleast 47’[14.3 m] shall run.

5. PARALLEL OFFSET
There has got to minimun sepration of 5’-6’ between the buses for swish tying up and outgoing of
buses.
