a Hindu spring festival celebrated in India , also known as the "festival of colours" or the
"festival of love". The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring,
end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive,
and repair broken relationships. It is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest. It
lasts for a night and a day, starting on the evening of the Purnima (Full Moon day) falling in
the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calendar month of Phalgun, which falls somewhere between the
end of February and the middle of March in the Gregorian calendar. The first evening is
known as <strong>Holika Dahan</strong> or <strong>Chhoti Holi</strong> and the
following day as Holi, <strong>Rangwali

popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, as well as people of other communities

<p><strong>Durga Puja</strong>, also

called <strong>Durgotsava</strong> and <strong>Navaratri</strong>, is an
annual Hindu festival in the Indian subcontinent that reveres the goddess Durga. It is
observed in the Hindu calendar month of <em>Ashvin</em>, typically September or
October of the Gregorian calendar. A multi-day festival that features elaborate temple
and stage decorations (<em>pandals</em>), scripture recitation, performance arts,
revelry and processions, Durga Puja is particularly observed by Hindus in eastern and
northeastern states of India. It is a major festival in the Shaktism tradition of
Hinduism not only West Bengal but across India.</p>

<p>Durga Puja festival marks the battle of goddess Durga with the shape-shifting,
deceptive and powerful buffalo demon Mahishasura, and her emerging
victorious. Thus, the festival epitomises the victory of Good over Evil, but it also is in
part a harvest festival that marks goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and
creation. The Durga Puja festival dates coincide with Vijayadashami (Dussehra)
observed by other traditions of Hinduism, where the Ram Lila is enacted, victory of
Rama is marked and effigies of demon Ravana are burnt instead.</p>

great pomp and show, zeal and gusto.

This festival marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month of fasting. The
Muslims observe fasts for a full month after sighting the moon of ‘Ramzan’. When
the month of ‘Ramzan’, is over and the moon of Eid is sighted, they end their Roja
(fasts). In this way, the Muslims break their month-long fast. The next day, the festival
of Eid is celebrated. Every year it comes off on the first day of the month of Shawwal.
It is a day of gaiety, festivity and feasting.<font></p>
