Original Lesson Plan
Grade Level: First Grade Reading
Objective: Students will create a product to inform others about a topic.
Standards: RI.5 Know and use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text.
RI.7 Use the details and illustrations in a text to describe its key details.
W.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about
the topic and provide some sense of closure.
SL.4 Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and
feelings clearly.
SL.5 Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas,
thoughts, and feelings.
Timeframe: 3-4 days- 45 min each day.
Learning Activities:
       1. On the first day students will pick an animal that they want to know more about.
They will go on Pebble Go and research the animal and complete a four square
graphic organizer to record the information. The organizer focuses on the habitat,
diet, appearance of the animal and a fun fact.
       2. On the second and third day the students will use their research from Day 1 to
create a poster using Wixie. Their posters need to include a title, facts about the
animal, and a picture of the animal with labels.
       3. On the third or fourth day (depending on when the class finishes their projects) the
students will present their projects with the class.
Assessment: The assessment is the end product of the poster that they created. I will be
looking for accurate facts, and if they had all the requirements on the rubric. (Title, picture,
labels, accurate facts, neatly done)

      a fun fact.
   2. On days two and three the students will be creating a project using voice thread. They
will use the research that they completed the previous day to create a video
presentation. In their videos they will be an “expert” on the animal that they
researched. They will record their voice to present the information, and include graphics
of their animals in their presentation. Some students will be required to talk about 4-5
facts, other students will only need to talk about 2 facts.
   3. Day 4 they will view each other’s video’s and write a comment after watching. On each
video they watch they will need to write one comment.
Assessment: The assessments throughout this lesson are the note taking organizer, voice
thread project, and the comments they leave on each other’s projects. For the note taking
organizer I will be making sure that they wrote complete and accurate facts. For the voice
thread project I will be making sure that I can fully understand what they are saying through
voice thread and that they are presenting the facts from their organizer. Also, that their
pictures match their animal. For the comments I will be looking to make sure that they wrote
something for each video they listened to and that their comments are positive.
                                             Reflection
I chose VoiceThread as my technology tool for my redesign lesson. VoiceThread is a
technology tool that focuses on communication and creativity. Through VoiceThread students
are able to create presentations by adding images and using their voice to present information.
In this lesson students are communicating the information that they researched about an
animal through the presentation that they are creating.
I believe this is the best technology that my students could use to meet the objectives of
the lesson. At the end of the lesson the main objective was for the students to create a product
that informed others about a topic. VoiceThread was the best option in my opinion because not
only are they able to create a presentation using images and their voices, they are also able to
comment on each other’s presentations as well.
By choosing Voice Thread my students are not only able to practice communicating
orally but they are also able to practice written communication as well. These are both skills
that I believe that my first graders will benefit from if we start practicing now.
