Communicative task: After reading the story to the class, the teacher asks students
“did you like the story? Why?” “How was the panda?” using language techniques like
repeating the questions multiple times or mixing English with Spanish (sandwich) in
order to make the students get the questions meaning and answer them orally as a
short debate.

Enabling task: Students watch, listen and interact with the following video about the
importance of the animals. The teacher pays the video and stops it in the important
parts to convey meaning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waZDwj9myhk
Communicative task: After the video, students should talk about it and recognize
which animals are shown in the video, where they live and why they are important.
This activity is guided by the teacher, when the video ends, she will ask 3 students to
answer “Which animal could you see in the video?” “Why are animals important?”
“Where do animals live?”

Lesson 2: Listening

Enabling task: Students will be given the name and picture of the animals they will
work with during the unit (Lion, Elephant , Monkey, Crocodile, Panda). They have
to read the names and match them with the pictures in order to make the names
familiar. When they finish matching the animals, they have to compare the answers
in pairs.
Communicative task: They will listen to an audio with a short description and the
sounds five animals make. On a paper, they have to write the name of the animals
and the order in which they hear them with the help of the teacher (who will be
monitoring the activity). The students with most of their answers right wins.

&utm_source=publishpresent

Enabling task: The teacher gives the students a photocopy to complete with the
name of each animal and where it lives. They have to do the activity with their folders
closed. At the end of the activity they can open their folders to check if the sentences
are correct.
Lesson 4: Speaking/ Writing:
The teacher plays the recording. They listen to the description of the animal followed
by what they eat. On the blackboard they have different foods and their names.

Enabling task: The teacher will repeat the audio as many times as needed and stop
in each of the five sentences. The students have to repeat the sentences aloud,
using the audio and with help of the teacher. Finally, they have to complete the
following sentences using the vocabulary they have been practising and they have in
the blackboard:

I am a lion. I eat ______ (meat)

I am a monkey. I eat _______ (banana)
I am a panda. I eat _____ (bamboo)
I am an elephant. I eat ________ (vegetables)
I am a crocodile. I eat ________(fish)
Lesson 5: Elaborating a text

Enabling task: Students have to complete the missing information in the following
sentences. When they finish the activity (even if they could not complete all the
gaps) the whole class will correct the sentences aloud with help of the teacher (she
chooses the students who are going to answer but all the classmates can help).
Lesson 6: Reading
Enabling task: Using the task corrected from the lesson before, each of the
students is going to read the full description of an animal to the class (the three
sentences). Teacher will participate as a guidance for the reading, she is going to
assess students only when needed instead of putting an eye on each of the mistakes
they could make.
Final task:
In groups, students have to guess which animal is presented and write a short personal
description of the animal given. The teacher will give each group the description of the 5
animals presented in the unit. Students have to choose one description and write the name
of the animal in a paper. In the same paper, they have to write a short description, adding the
animal's name, where it lives and what it eats. Finally, the students will have to share their
productions with the whole class orally and the rest of the class should guess which animal
they are describing.
