FOREWARD
The Micro, Small and, Medium Enterprises, Development Institute (earlier called SISI),
under Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, Bangalore is one of the prime organizations in
Karnataka, engaged in the promotion and development of Industries in the Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises. As a part of the promotional and developmental activities, the Institute
conducts studies on the Status and performance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in
the State. The District profile is one such report compiled and updated under District
Industry Development Plan of the Institute assigned by Office of the Development
Commissioner (SSI), New Delhi. This report contains the present status of economy,
geographical information, statistical data relating to MSME’s in each district, salient features
of the progress of the different sectors of the each district of Karnataka and performance of
industries particularly in Micro, Small and Medium industries.

I am happy to appreciate the efforts put in by all the offices and staff in this
institute especially S/Shri. B.N.Sudhakar, Deputy Director,Sri. P.V.Raghavendra,
Asst.Director (ISS), Sri.K.Channabasavaiah and Smt. D.T.Vijayalakshmi . Asst.Director (Stat)
in collecting the latest information available form different departments of Government of
Karnataka and in bringing out this Industrial Profile report. I would also like to thank all
Joint Directors of District Industry Centres, Senior Officers of Statistics Division of Govt. of

• The district is endowed with the necessary infrastructure and
resources for the development of a Auto Cluster and Auto
Components Cluster in the future
• Ramnagara is the hub for Silk and Sericulture activities, Textiles
and Apparels can find opportunities in Ramnagara
• Ramanagara taluk includes the Bidadi industrial area, which houses
the manufacturing units of Toyota and Coca-Cola, and a 1400 MW
combined cycle gas
• Asia’s largest cocoon market.

Following are the clusters, where development is proposed by the Govt. of


Karnataka

Coir Products at a cost of Rs. 82 lakhs at Kuntorudoddi, Channapatna taluk if the


district is already exist and under progress.

Power loom weaving in Magadi Taluk : Project is under preparatory stage.

Cement concrete cluster in Chikajala, Kanakapura Taluk.

4.1.2 Service Sector


Printing : Printing park, cluster at Harohalli indl.area, Kanakapura taluk, at the
cost of Rs. 6447.47 lakhs. This project is already approved by Govt. Of India and is in
the stage of release of funds.

Ragi is a major crop followed by paddy and groundnut.


Horticulture segment in food processing is the thrust area in Ramanagara.
There is much scope to increase the pulse and oilseed production and the dry fruit
processing industry as well as jam/jelly/ juice segment.

TOURISM

Channapatna has the crawling infant Lord Krishna in Malur. This place
also boasts of Kanva Reservoir that
has a beautiful and natural landscape.
 Ramadevara Betta is an ideal spot for rock – climbers and adventure
seekers. 50 km from Bangalore, it
