Objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration- Marketing Management
Program
The BSBA-Marketing Management program aims to:
    1. Prepare students for their role in organization such as identifying customers’ unfulfilled
       needs and wants and what customers to serve, deciding on products and services, and
       determining optimal methods of pricing, promoting and distributing;
    2. Enhance students’ marketing-decision skills; and
    3. Expands and broadens students’ understanding of key marketing concepts and best
       practices in a variety of settings and organizational environments through real-life
       business applications.
Objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration- Financial Management
Program
The BSBA-Financial Management program aims to:
    1. Prepare students for their role in organization such as financing, investing, negotiation,
       deal making, administering, numbers generation, cash and treasury management, and
       evaluation and planning;
    2. Hone students’ with the need expertise in financial management particularly on
       microfinance and become financial decision-makers par excellence, confidante, schemer
       and negotiator; and
    3. Provide students with key concepts and knowledge of financial management and best
       practices.
PRACTICUM MANUAL
       This manual presents a complete set of guidelines and procedures for all the students
enrolled in Practicum. It serves the purpose of providing the students the guide as to
requirements to be met for them to complete the course and deserve a passing grade. Likewise,
this manual also provides a basis for further discussion during the orientation by the Practicum
Supervisor with their respective classes.
PRACTICUM GENERAL OBJECTIVES
    To enable the students to apply and appreciate the relevance of classroom learning to
    the actual work setting.
   To provide students with workplace experience/ exposure in their respective fields.
    To enable the departments network and linkages vis-a-vis career placement for its graduates
   by establishing and maintaining harmonious relationships with Institution.
    Enhance       the       personality,    confidence,       mediation/negotiation,      public
    relations/communication and critical thinking of the practicumer
    To instill in the minds of the students the venue of patience and perseverance as they look
    for deployment, a typical experience when one starts job hunting. Further the value of work
    and love for work are likewise incorporated us as well the subject also provides the exposure
    to the student experience / situation which call for the exercise of interpersonal skills to
   draw better social relationships especially in a typical work place.
   Inculcate to the practicumer the value of respect for the law and service to the community;
   To provide opportunities for future professionals relative to the labor market.
    To continuously improve the OJT/Practicum           Program of the departments by gaining
   inputs from the partner institutions.
    Exhibit the spirit of faith by interpreting,judging, and the evaluating life's realities in
    the workplace in the light of the Gospel.
    Demonstrate the spirit of zeal by translating the acquired knowledge into practice in 
    assisting individuals I the workplace deal with their everyday human experience and
    problems.
    Manifest the spirit of communion when engaged in actual understanding and appreciation of
    persons to promote individual and social change.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
  Practicumer /Intern- refer to the student enrolled in the practicum program.
  College- refers to the Cabalum Western College
   Practicum Site (Institution/Company) - refers to the organization           for possible
  practicum setting accredited/acknowledge/recognized by the College.
   Practicum supervisor-    refers to the faculty Member from CWC who over sees the
  practicum activity.
   On-site Supervisor- refers to the representative of the institution /company who
   supervises the practicumer.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAM
                                PART I – THE PRACTICUMER
Section 1 – Duties and Responsibilities of Practicumers
       1.1 An admitted practicumer should abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the
              institution / company where s/he is undergoing internship.
       1.2 The practicum site may be assigned by the practicum supervisor or chosen by the
              practicumer. In the latter case, s/he must request for a formal approval from the
              practicum supervisor.
       1.3 The Partner Institution / Company (host company) including the On-site supervisor
              shall not in any way be related to the practicumer up to the 3rd degree of
              consanguinity and / or affinity.
Section 2 – On-the-Job requirements
       2.1 The Cabalum Western College permits the following
             students(_________________________) to undergo it’s on the job training in
              __________________, Iloilo City.
       2.2     The duration of the training is six hundred (600) hours.
       2.3     The practicum adviser shall, with the assistance of the establishment, prepare a
             schedule of activities to be learned on the job.
       2.4     The student trainee shall not be paid compensation, however, the establishment
               may give any form of allowance if it so desires.
2.5    The student shall have the status of student trainee. He/she shall not temporarily
       or permanently displace a regular worker now employed by the establishment.
2.6    The student trainee shall not be permitted to remain beyond the designated
        place of training or period needed by the training agency.
2.7    The parent or guardian shall be responsible for the conduct and discipline of the
        student while on training.
2.8    All complaints shall be made to and acted upon by the Practicum Adviser,
       Program Chair-Business Administration or Dean of the College of Business
       Administration.
2.9    The establishment shall have the discretion to transfer, re-assign or terminate the
       student trainee anytime for cause.
2.10   All applicable laws, rules and regulation of Cabalum Western College and the
       establishment concerned are applicable on the duration of the on-the-job training.
2.11   Intimate relationship between the employee and practicumer is not tolerated.
Section 3 – Requirements
           (Due before the 1st day of OJT)
           2.1    For Deployment
                  2.1.1 Letter of application for deployment
                   2.1.2 A 3 x 4 index card dully filled up with the following:
         Name of the students
         Course, year and section
         Residence Address of the student
         Parents / guardians
         Telephone numbers of student (landline and mobile phones)
         Telephone numbers of parents / guardians
         Name of company host / partner
         Address of company / host / partner
         Department in the company / host / partner where student is assigned
         Name of Immediate Supervisor in the department where student is assigned
         Contact Number of the Immediate Supervisor
         Webpage / homepage address of the host company (if any)
         One (1) copy of a 1 x 1 picture of the student
          A sketch / location map of the company / host / partner (at the reverse side of the index
          card)
          In case of emergency, name of person to contact and telephone number.
                  2.1.3 Waiver (duly signed by his/her parents / guardian)
                  2.1.4 Resume
                  2.1.5 Memorandum of Agreement or Letter/Contract of Acceptance.
           2.2    Academic Requirements
                  2.2.1 Attendance
                         2.2.1.1 The practicumer should observe punctuality and regular attendance
                                 in reporting to his/her assigned duty. S/he should religiously
                                 accomplish the attendance sheet noted by the onsite supervisor.
                         2.2.1.2 The required number of hours of practicum must be complete
                                 within the time frame set by the department.
                         2.2.1.3 If the College would require the Practicum’s attendance to official
                                 activities or functions, the Practicum Supervisor will send an
                                 official communication to the Practicum (On-Site) Supervisor for
                                 such purpose at least three days before the date of said official
                                 activity.
           To further impose discipline among practicumers, each instance of tardiness and absence
           gives the practicumer an equivalent demerit on the Practicum (On-Site) Supervisor’s
           Evaluation.
    2.2.1.4 Attendance to the Practicum Orientation is a must.
           (Due Prelim, Midterm and Finals)

       2.2.2 Status Report / Journal
               2.2.2.1 The first page should indicate the information specified on the
                       index card.
               2.2.2.2 A photocopy of the standard Daily Time Report (DTR) form as
                       provided by the department should be attached.
               2.2.2.3 The succeeding pages shall serve as records of the entries from
                       Day 1 to last day of the week, in which tasks assigned / done. At
                       the end of each week, the Supervisor should sign the journal to
                       signify review of the entries and confirmation.
(Due Finals)
       2.2.3 Practicum / Project Report / Case Study
               2.2.3.1 For final submission by the student, this should be reviewed by the
                       Supervisor of the company / host / partner and his / her signature is
                       required to be affixed on the last page as part of the
                       Recommendations.
Case Study Format
        The case study should follow the standard format.
Company Profile - this presents the company background, history, its Business, products
                             and services as well as human resource management. This
                             discusses about the company / host / partner.
Application of Theories - lessons learned in the classroom for the past three (3) years and
                              a half (1/2) shall be discusses and how these are applied
                              into practice.
Observation and Concerns - what observations the student / practicumer has made
                           regarding theories and learnings shall be covered in
                           the discussion.
Recommendations - the student / practicumer makes recommendations as to best solve
                           whatever problems existing, if any and likewise
                           improve company practices.
       2.2.4 Certificate of Completion issued by the company / host / partner indicating
              the actual number of hours completed and duly signed by the authorized
              representative of the company.
       2.2.5 Evaluation Report of the company host / partner supervisor on the student’s
              performance, etc. using the format provided by the department.
       2.2.6 The Practicum Agreement / Waiver – The deployment of a student /
              practicumer for an OJT / Practicum assignment is understood to be
              covered by a Memorandum of Agreement or Contract (as preferred and
              required by some company) executed between Cabalum Western College
              and the company / host/ partner. It is therefore with the understanding that
              whatever terms and conditions are stipulated in the MOA/Contract should
              be strictly followed.

              2.2.7 Grading System
                      (As indicated in the syllabus as per required by department.)
Section 3 – Admission to the Practicum Program
       3.1 An incoming practicumer should finish all academic / non- academic requirements
             prerequisite to the practicum program except for those with approved overload
             from the Registrar.
       3.2 An incoming practicumer should secure a student’s waiver duly signed by his/her
             parents/ guardian, which serves as proof that Cabalum Western College will not
             be held liable for any untoward incident that may occur during the practicum /
             internship period.
       3.3 An incoming practicumer should send their letter of application for deployment to
             host companies at least a month prior to their classes in the first and second
             semester. The letter should be a standard letter of request sent by the school using
             the official letterhead, to be secured from their own Departments, signed by the
             Department Chair and / or noted by their Dean.
       3.4 The practicumer must attend their General Orientation. No student can start duty
             hours on or before the actual date of enrolment. Students are allowed only
             deployment and shall be given the go signal to start duty hours after he / she has
             attended the General Orientation. Reckoning of the date for the required number
             of hours should be from the date of start until completion.
       3.5 Students who do not have any deployment as of the General Orientation date shall be
              given one-month allowance after which, shall be advised to drop the subject
              considering the missed hours. Except for some courses such as Engineering,
              Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Management and Tourism courses, because
              they have a limited Practicum Site (Institution / Company) to conduct their OJT /
              Practicum.
Section 4 – Criteria for Best Practicumer of the Year Award
       (All students enrolled in the OJT subject in all the programs in the first and second
       semesters of the school year are qualified for this award. However, the student who gets
       the highest grade in the subject wins the award for every program. In case of tie, an
       interview shall be conducted by a committee composed of the Department Chair,
       Practicum Coordinator, and all subject professors handling OJT for the first and second
       semesters of the school years.)
       4.1 At the end of each semester, the committee on Honors and Awards will select the
               Best Practicum Student based on the following criteria:
              4.1.1 S/he should not have violated any rules and regulations set forth by the
                     College and the institution / company.
              4.1.2 S/he must have garnered the highest possible practicum grade.
              4.1.3 S/he must be highly recommended by the on-site supervisor, practicum
                     supervisor and the chair of the Department after deliberation.
              4.1.4 S/he should have a GPA of 2.5 and above.

Section 5 – Student Discipline Board
       5.1    Composition of the Board

       5.2    Jurisdiction
               The Board shall have the entire jurisdiction over all cases involving the behavior
               of the practicumers.
PART II – Practicum Supervisor
Section 1 – General Provisions
       1.1 The practicum supervisor shall not receive additional remuneration and / or reloading
              from the institution. The practicum load will serve as his / her teaching load.
       1.2 S/he shall be allowed to reimburse the expenses incurred during his / her practicum
              visit such as meals, transportation, etc.
       1.3 S/he should present to the chair the form / certificate of appearance duly signed by the
              authorized representative of the institution / company on a weekly basis.
       1.4 Professional conduct should be properly observed by the practicum supervisor as
              stipulated in the faculty manual.
Section 2 – Duties and Responsibilities of the Practicum Supervisor
       2.1 When students start their deployment, it is responsibility of the Practicum supervisor
             to do a regular monitoring of the student / practicumer under him / her to check on
             their over – all performance and talk to the Practicum (Onsite) Supervisors
             concerned to further improve the system. This is purposely done to work things
             out, should there be problems as early as at least three
             (3) weeks after the student / practicumer’s deployment. It may not be necessary
              that the student / practicumer should be present during the monitoring activity of
              the Practicum subject professor but the most important thing that should happen
              is, the Practicum Subject Professor should be able to meet and discuss with the
              Practicum (On-Site) Supervisors the concerns of the student / practicumer.
       2.2 The Practicum Supervisor should be responsible for submitting a periodic report of
              monitoring attaching the Monitoring Report Form as signed by the supervisors of
              the company / host / partner and itinerary of visits every payroll cut – off (13th
              and 27th of the month).
       2.3 Meet with his / her students regularly on periodic examination schedules for student
             feedback on their respective assignments to validate complaints concerns of both
             parties, if any.
       2.4 It shall be the responsibility of the Practicum supervisor to compute the grades of the
               student / practicumer under him / her based on the compliance of the requirements
               as discussed and performance ratings.
       2.5    Submission of the grade to the Chair of the Department within the prescribed time

PART III – PRACTICUM SUPERVISOR / ON SITE SUPERVISOR OF THE PARTNER
INSTITUTION / COMPANY
Section 1 – Duties and Responsibilities of the Partner On – The – Job Institution
       1. The company / host / partner shall be responsible for providing actual on – the – job
           training (OJT) to student / practicumer recommended, thru a letter by the Chair of the
           Department and as noted by the Dean of the College.
       2. The company / host / partner shall be responsible for assigning the student /
           practicumer / to any department during the duration of the OJT which requires the
           actual work experience. The office schedule shall be decided both by the student and
           the company / host / partner. However, should there be class suspensions on days
           when the student is expected to report for class, he / she may opt to attend to his OJT
           assignment.
       3. Job assignments for the student should be clearly explained by the company / host /
           partner to fully define the duties and responsibilities of student / practicumer.
       4. The company / host / partner shall also assign the student / practicumer a
           Supervisor to closely monitor the student’s overall performance, to include work
           attitude / habits, personal appearance, and professional competence.
       5. The company / host / partner shall conduct an evaluation of the student /
           practicumer’s overall performance based on the standard requirement as provided thru
           a Student Evaluation Form.
       6. The company / host / partner, upon consultation with the College, may require
           qualified students to submit themselves to examinations, interviews and file pertinent
           documents to support their application.
       7. The company / host / partner shall issue a Certificate of Completion to the student
           upon the completion of the required number of hours.
       8. The company / host / partner is not obliged to employ student – trainee upon
           completion of the training.
       9. There is no employer – employee relationship between the Company and the student /
           practicumer.

WHEREAS, the SECOND PARTY is mandated to provide a venue for student/s practicum
exposure of ________ (no. of hours) necessary for their total educational formation.
WHEREAS, the SECOND PARTY has developed a curriculum leading to the degree in
Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
WHEREAS, the curriculum includes a practicum program of 140 hours has been designed to
respond the manpower requirements of the hotel, resort and restaurant industries, for Food and
Beverage Service, Banquet and Catering, 100 hours for Housekeeping Management and 360
hours for the following; Front office, Public relation, Sales and Marketing, Accounting,
Purchasing and Human Resource.
WHEREAS, the FIRST PARTY has been chosen by the SECOND PARTY as a practicum
venue in which the student/s can put into practice the theories and principles learned from the
classroom.
WHEREAS, the FIRST PARTY is an establishment accredited by the Department of Tourism
for their value of service and reputation.
WHEREAS, the FIRST PARTY will have no obligation to provide the practicum student/s the
honorarium/salary as given for the regular employees of the establishment.
NOW THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the foregoing promises, the parties hereby
agree and stipulate the following terms and conditions:
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTRACTING PARTIES:
       A. FIRST PARTY shall:
             1. Provide practical and effective training to qualify the student/s for
                manpower needs of the hotel, resort and restaurant industry;
              2. Workout program and schedule of activities for the student/s participating
                 in the practicum program with the Practicum Coordinator of the SECOND
                 PARTY;
              3. Expose the practicum student/s into the basic work experiences in the
                 various areas in the establishment’s operations;
              4. Evaluate the work performance of the student/s and submit the same to
                 the party concerned;

               5. Designate a Practicum Supervisor representing the establishment whose task
                  includes the following:
                   5.1 Conduct an orientation about the standard operating procedures of the
                       establishment;
                   5.2 Introduce the student/s to the staff of the department where the student/s
                        will be assigned; and
                   5.3 Confer with the Practicum Coordinator regarding the student/s weekly
                       progress.
               6. Co-signatory in the certificate of completion issued to successful
                  practicum student/s.
        B. SECOND PARTY shall:
             1. Design a standardized training program specifying the knowledge and skills
                that the practicum student/s should have ideally acquired in the course of the
                practicum unit;
This training program is design to aim the following:
        a. Perform actual practical and managerial aspects of the various Hospitality Related
           professions;
        b. Demonstrate and apply experience and theories he/she learned in school for real
           industrial situations and problems;
        c. Perform various operations, process, techniques and controls presently used
           in industry;
        d. Manifest positive attitude, self-confidence and self-motivation required of a
           responsible professional in handling tasks in all concerned areas.

                     4. Monitor the activities of the practicum student/s through the
                        Practicum Coordinator;
                     5. Assign a qualified and capable Practicum Coordinator whose function is:
                         5.1 Coordinate with the hotel, resort and restaurant Supervisor regarding the
                             practicum student/s performance and other matters that may arise; and
                         5.2 Provide and orient the establishment as to the use of the evaluation tool.
              C. AMENDMENT CLAUSES:
              Either party shall make no amendments, modifications or alteration of this agreement
       unless expressed in writing and executed with the same formalities as this Memorandum of
       Agreement.
              D. EFFECTIVITY:
               This agreement shall become valid and effective upon signing by both parties and shall
       be in force until final submission of the required documents.
