Standard 1

This document discusses policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support technology implementation plans. It specifically discusses a grant proposal written by the author to receive $5,000 for a LEGO robotic kit. The proposal justified the need for the project using the Technology Integration Matrix and explained how it would teach students employability skills. Researching previous successful proposals helped ensure the correct information was included. If awarded, the grant would support the shared technology vision and increase career and technical education opportunities at the school. Student learning and skills would be assessed during the project.

3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding

Research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to
support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal
technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and
evaluation of formal grant proposals.

This artifact is a grant proposal I wrote to receive $5000 for a LEGO robotic kit. One of the ways
that I was able to justify the need for this grant was by using the Technology Integration Matrix to
explain the high level of technology implantation that this project would produce. Another important
element of this project is to use this project as a way for students to learn about and demonstrate
appropriate employability skills so they would be prepared to join the work force, should they chose to
do so. Before I wrote this grant, I researched the projects and proposals that have previously won this
grant. This helped me to ensure that I included the correct information.

My mastery of this standard can be seen in the detailed and researched explanation and
rational for this this grant project. It required me to research the multitude of technology grants and
choose the grant that was best suited for the project I want to complete. Ultimately, I chose the Tiny
grant because the project was small and the Tiny grant would fully fund the robotics project. It was my
recommendation that the materials for this project would be used and implemented for my individual
class only due to the complex pieces needed for this kit to work. Additionally, after finding this grant, I
was able to share it with the robotics team because they are much more skilled and could benefit from
being awarded this grant. I chose to do this because as a technology coach, part of our job is to
recommend various funding opportunities to support the technology projects in our school. Once I
found the right grant for this project, I had to connect the project to measureable standards that would
be covered should I be awarded the grant.

In creating this artifact, I learned how to write an educational technology grant. Grant writing is
such an important skill to develop when you are working in the capacity of an instructional technology
coach. Often, as a technology enthusiast, we can create this vison of technology implementation that
may not be financially attainable. However, if you become a skill grant writer, you will have more and
more opportunities to support your teachers with instructional technology hardware, software, and
subscriptions. The thing that I would do differently for this grant is I would have written it for simpler
robots. Since I teach an introductory computer science course, my students would not have the well-
developed coding skills needed to use the robots described in this artifact

The work that went into creating this artifact would impact student learning. Should I win this
grant, students would have the opportunity to practice the coding skills it takes to become a
programmer, and how to master employability skills like collaboration and communication. Additionally,
this grant could really support the shared vision because it would increase the visibility of the career and
technical education department at my school. The impact could be assessed during the project to see
students applying their employability skills. Additionally, members from the county CTE department
tend to come out to schools who have interesting projects like this going on.
