2 Safe, Healthy & Ethical Use

Model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies

For this artifact I created a presentation on image copyright. This artifact defines and examines the key
concepts behind image copyright and highlights the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital
information and technologies through the use of three different scenarios used to explain the different
elements of copyright and ethical use of materials collected from the Internet.

This artifact demonstrates my mastery of this standard because it shows my ability to explain the
different elements of copyright in a simplified way that allows someone to learn about the basic rights
when it comes to the Internet. Furthermore, this artifact demonstrates model and facilitate the safe,
healthy, legal, and ethical uses. Within the presentation, the modeling of the safe, heathy, legal, and
ethical uses of digital material is explained in the beginning of the presentation. This part is important
because it helps to create a general understanding of the terms associated with copyright and ethical
practices. The facilitation part pertains to the second half of the presentation which creates scenarios
that demonstrate various levels of safety, healthy, legal, and ethical appropriateness or lack thereof.
Someone could use this presentation in a variety of settings from staff development to classroom
instruction.

When creating this artifact, I learned a lot more about copyright than I even knew existed. The
information I learned from the creation of this artifact contributes to making me a better instructional
technology coach because I can promote the appropriate use of copyright material so that our teachers
are not at risk of copyright infringement. If I were to improve this assignment, I would include various
types of copyright including videos and things of that nature.

The work that went into the creation of this artifact could contribute to faculty improvement because in
general, teachers often look for the most appropriate resources and they forget to verify the usage
policy for that particular resource. The impact of this could be assessed through observations of
teachers appropriately using copyrighted materials from the Internet in their classrooms.
