POSITION PAPER: Sex Education
Sex Education is high quality teaching and learning about a broad variety of topics related to sex and
sexuality , exploring values and beliefs about those topics and gaining the skills that are needed to
navigate relationships and manage one's own sexual health (Breurer 2016). Sex Education should be
teach in school because it has positive effect and essential to the students.
Sex Education promotes gaining knowledge for the students to be able them to enlighten about the
importance , consequences band effect of sex and sexuality. Students need comprehensive sexuality
education in order them to receive reliable information which prepares them for a safe , productive and
fulfilling life and also to empowering students to make informed decisions about relationships and
sexuality and navigate a world where gender-based , violence, gender inequality, early and unintended
pregnancies and other sexuality transmitted infections that serious risk for the health of everyone,
specially for a young people.
Being aware is an essential aspect of life, being aware about sexuality and sex is important specially it is
part of life. Implementation of sex education would be helpful and useful for the students , it helps
students gain the information skills and motivation to make healthy decision about sex and sexuality.
According to the World Health Organizations (2014) states that comprehensive sexuality education draws
understanding sexuality and therefore it maintaining the comprehensive , school based-programs should
address these issues in culturally sensitive and age and developmentally appropriate ways within the
context of everyday life. In line with the sentiments of Mazin (2014) , we believe that ' sexuality
education is meaningful only when humanized- when placed in the landscape if our everyday life'. This
helps young people make sense of social world in which they make decision about their sexuality and
sexual health.
In 2009 , UNESCO released a policy framework and guidelines for teaching about sexuality education and
maintained that sexuality education should be:
......an age appropriate , culturally relevant approach to teaching about sex and relationship by providing
scientifically accurate, realistic, non-judgemental information. Sexuality education provides opportunities
to explore one's own values and attitudes and to build decision-making , communication and risk
reduction about many aspects of sexuality (UNESCO,2009).
The best part of sex education is that , it encompasses a range of relationships . When students learn
about these relationships before they act on their sexuality , perhaps they can understand why they
should wait for appropriate time . Through sex education students can also learn about various sexual
vices that can be a danger to them. This can help the students learn to avoid situation that may put them
in such circumstances. That's why I am agree that sex education should be implemented or belong in
school curriculum.
If we are to make an impact on students and young people become sexually active, comprehensive
sexuality education must become part of the formal school curriculum. Its purpose is to impart
knowledge to firm belief and attitudes, to build relationships, intimacy and sexual identity. There are a
lot of things to be known regarding sex such as human anatomy, intercourse , reproductive health,
responsibilities and rights. Although these are essentially what sex education is all about, many are still
debating whether or not the topic should be part of school curriculum but this is not enough to not sex
education should be teach.
