PROPOSAL TO CONDUCT 5-DAY CELEBRATION OF MENTAL HEALTH:
“HAPPINESS AND WELL-BEING”
Rationale:
Republic Act 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health Law seeks to establish a
national mental health policy directed towards emotional, psychological and social
well-being of the people.
Mental health calls everyone. When mental health is overlooked, it can have
detrimental effects on the individual and the community. According to World Health
Organization’s survey in 2016, 1 in 4 adults live with a mental health disorder. 1,100
college students die by suicide each year and unfortunately, suicide is the 2nd
leading cause of death for college students. But there is hope. Mental health
problems are common, BUT HELP IS AVAILABLE. A week of happiness and well-being
will emanate through the Unified Psychology Students’ aim to lessen the suicidal
tendencies of students because of depression.
Happiness which will be signified by certain activities like Socialization and
showcase of talents to attain unity amidst different point of views and personalities.
On the other hand, well-being will be positively built through activities like team
building which will test their determination to achieve one goal, and to possibly
inculcate the importance of being with others and of boosting one’s confidence to
have a firm foundation of life which is a healthy well-being. Happiness and well-
being will shape one’s life as we go through the process. Lack of it will result into an
unstable way of life, specifically targeting the mental aspect of the individual.
Psychology week through its activities will promote positivity that will be seen through
the printed smile on the faces of everyone.
Objectives:
Psychology week aims to:
Understand stigma and its impact on people.
Explore their own attitudes to mental health and mental illness.
Feel more confident to talk about mental health.
Be aware of who to talk to/where to go for help if they are concerned about
themselves or someone they know.
