ARU+GUMENTATIVE ESSAY

1] pocket money should be given to children or not

Pocket Money has always been a huge concern for both the parents as well as children. Children want money so that they could spend on their own for the
things that they like and parents on the other hand do not want to give money as they are surrounded by their own inhibitions of what will the child do with
that money? He may misuse the money and lead onto a wrong path and so on? As every coin has 2 sides, so does this also have, but let me share the
advantages of giving pocket money to your child.

The first and foremost benefit of giving pocket money to your child is teaching him to be independent. It is always with children, in fact with adults as well you
like to be the opposite of what you are, i.e. children want to behave like grownups whereas adults always feel like going back to their childhood days; So
when you give your child pocket money, they appreciate the fact that you have trust in them to handle the amount wisely. When you give them money you
can teach them to manage their expenses. Make it very clear to them, the amount that they have received, they have to manage all their expenses within
that amount and they will not get an extra amount if they misuse it. Also if you are skeptical if they would misuse the amount, ask them to give you the list of
expenditure at the end of the week/ month.

The second benefit is that they will learn to value money. As I mentioned in the first benefit, let them manage their all expenses within the amount. For
example, partying, food they want to eat from the canteen, buying pen or pencil. This will inculcate the value for money. They will know how much do things
cost like food, stationery and other things that they require. Hence with this learning in mind, it will not be a reality shock for them once they enter the real
world where they have to manage the entire finances.

Now the point comes, how do you want to give the pocket money to your child? Just because your child has asked for money, do not give him. Tell him he
has got to earn the pocket money. May be you could tie some daily chores which he/she needs to perform. If they do so, then only will they get the pocket
money. Or a valid explanation as to why do they need the money and what will they do out of the money and how much money do they need to fulfil their
desires. If it is an exorbitant amount you need to bring down their expectation and let them know how much you can provide them with. Ask the parents of
other friends as to how much are they giving their children.

These are some of the ways and benefits of providing pocket money to your child. By being wise you can inculcate many values in your child by giving him
pocket money and with the help of right guidance your child will also be on the correct

I feel that examinations should be abolished. We know that the examination system has come to be the main theme of modern
education. Every one from his early child-hood should take endless examinations and succeed in passing them, before he could
graduate from a college or university. As much importance has been attached to it in school education, it has been subjected to
mounting criticism. Let us define examination and abolish. Examination is a spoken or written test of knowledge whereas abolish
means to officially end a law, system, especially one that has existed for a long time. Firstly, because of the existence of the
examination system, students go out for gaining high marks so that they often forget the main purpose of education. Many so-called
clever students are nothing but bookworms who merely know the skeleton of knowledge. The aim of education is to enable students to
learn how to live, how to work, and how to contribute to the country with their expertise. To do this, the students must receive training,
in physical as well as mental areas. But the examination system has discouraged students from making such an attempt. Furthermore,
since the students try so hard to memorize, in a short period of time, they will forget the whole subject as soon as the exam is over.

Secondly, examinations test only a limited range of skills, they favour people who have a good memory and good exam techniques
even though they may not be very original or imaginative. Examinations encourage competition and favour academically gifted
students, the less able who actually need the most help get neglected. In fact, examinations do no prepare us for life, it is not them that
makes us successful. It depends on ones mind. Thirdly, examinations also encourage dishonesty. Since many students try so hard to
get high marks, there is a great temptation for them to cheat in the exams. They cheat not only their teachers, their parents, but
themselves as well.

Not only that, examinations are also capable of injuring one’s health. Examinations fill one with fear, anxiety, dejection after failure,
depression, and pride after getting a good rank. Children and their parents develop cold feet at the thought of an approaching
examination. They get palpitation with sweaty palms and soles. Some even burn the midnight oil just to revise the remaining topics they
had not covered. In the midst of all these, little do they know that they are actually injuring their health. In conclusion, examinations
should be abolished

3]school uniforms

The idea of school uniforms seems like an antiquated concept for many North Americans. Unless a child attends private school, it is not
normally practiced by children and families. Yet around the world, wearing school uniforms is the norm. Students studying in schools
requiring school uniforms generally perform very well academically and seem happy wearing the same outfit every day. There are many
benefits to wearing school uniforms that schools in Canada and the United States should incorporate into their public schools.

One of the biggest concerns in schools these days is bullying. Students are harassed physically, verbally, and socially. The latest trend in bullying is
cyberbullying. Often, the cause of bullying stems from people being different for not wearing the “right” clothes. If someone looks richer, most people feel
like they have a higher social status or more power. To the contrary, uniforms allow children to learn on a more level playing field, with less judgment
about clothing choices, brands of clothing, or physical appearance. A lot of students who wear uniforms claim that they feel more proud of their school.
Wearing school colors gives students a feeling of being more connected to their school and classmates. If there is a sense of community and connectedness
among the students, the use of foul language, gang behavior, and crimes like vandalism are largely eliminated. Wearing school uniforms can also help
people gain more self-confidence because they know they are a part of something bigger.

One of the main concerns people have about wearing school uniforms is conformity. People fear that by making children look the same,
their individuality will be suppressed. However, this is not the case. Accessories, such as bracelets and hair clips, can jazz up a school
uniform. Besides, students can wear their own clothing after school and during weekends. An individual’s personality is not wholly
expressed by fashion alone. Personality is determined by the way a person moves, feels, thinks, and talks. Wearing a school uniform
neither defines a child’s personality nor erases it. There are even more advantages to wearing school uniforms in public schools in addition
to those previously mentioned. It means lower costs for parents during back-to-school shopping

. However, the idea that bullying might be alleviated is the leading reason why schools should implement the wearing of uniforms. The
other is the fostering of school pride. Students will not lose their personality but will merely learn new ways to express themselves.

4] internet

Nowadays, the Internet is growing rapidly. Many people open Internet because it assists a lot of benefits for them.
However, many people become victims after accessing the internet. In this essay, I will discuss the benefits and
dangers of the internet.

The internet has many benefits. One of these benefits of Internet is it is the medium of communication. There are
many facilities on the internet helps us to communicate each other such as E-mail, Facebook, Twitter and others.
All these facilities enable people to communicate with other people from different countries around the world so
that it can explore other cultures of different ethnicity. Also, Internet is a medium of information. Today, a lot of
people need the information from the internet. Because every second on the internet, updates the information
required by humans. For instance, Google and Yahoo are search engine information on the internet that provide all
kinds of topics the information we need. Furthermore, Internet is a medium of entertainment. Internet becomes
successful because it provides a lot of entertainment that humans need. For example, today many people are
watching or downloading free entertainment on the internet, and many people are playing on-line games.

In contrary, the internet has a lot of disadvantages. The fact of the matter is that the internet has thousands of porn
sites. This is the greatest threat to human life, especially the children. There have been many people who became
victims of pornographic sites on the internet. For example, now in Indonesia, many teenage girls lost their virgin.
That is because porn sites affect their lifestyle so that they eliminate the virgin with boyfriend easily. Also, the
Internet sends viruses to your computer. When your computer connects to the internet it is often the case that a
virus attacks your computer hard disk. In addition, many people steal personal information on the internet. The
case is often occurring in today’s world, when people save personal information such as name, address, credit card
number, and others, so many criminals will access the data. Therefore, beware of internet because it has a lot of
harm to human life

In conclusion, I believe that the Internet helps people in the communications, information and entertainment.
However, the Internet also has much negative side. Therefore, use the internet for positive things so that we get a
lot of benefits.

5] homework is important or not

Hom ew ork is defined as an out of class task assigned to students to hel p them practice and prepare for their
future. Hom ew ork has been around for a very long tim e. I t is set and traced as a tradition of having teachers
assigning w ork and students com pleting it. Parents say that teachers require it and teachers say that parents
dem and m ore of it. T eachers assign hom ework to help som e students im prove their grade and pass the c ourse for
those of who do not do w ell on tests or standardized exam inations. Can hom ew ork be considered helpful or
harm ful to students? This controversy turns into argum ents and disagreem ents. For m e, hom ew ork totally can help
students in study because the re are m any benefits we can get from doing hom ew ork. Every one has their own
opinion right? I have m y own opinion too about this topic because I think it is better if I say hom ew ork is helpful to
s t u d e n t s . Wh y ? T h e r e a r e m y o w n r e a s o n s w h y I s u p p o r t t h i s t o p i c .
> First of all, homework builds up an initiative in students. They initiate study. Teachers get the schoolwork done
from students whereas students initiate doing hom ew ork. T here is a sense of responsibility associated with
com pleting their hom ew ork. C hil dren feel responsibl e for finishing hom ew ork and accom plished when they do it.
They start all otting their tim e to study and play thus learning to com plete their scheduled tasks in the tim e they
have. Moreover, they learn to do things on their ow n. T hey manage their tim e and com plete their w ork
independently . Hom ew ork encourages self -discipline in students. Besides that, hom ework helps the children l earn
with interest. T eachers give com m ents on the w ork they do. Teachers’ positive rem arks boost the childr en to l earn.
Students learn to follow instructions and com plete their assignm ents successfully . T hey need to explore on topics,
refer research m aterial , and read about related topics in order to do their hom e assignm ents. And children l earn
to cope up with their school activities.

> Secondly , students who are likes to do hom ew ork that are given from their teachers are m ostly get the good
achievem ent in their study . Two British studies found that w hile hom ew ork in secondary schools produced better
exam resul ts, the influence w as rel atively sm all. Students who spent seven hours a w eek or more on a subject
achieved about a third of an A l evel grade better than students of the sam e gender and abil ity who spent less
than tw o hours a w eek. This is because hom ew ork teaches students the im portance of planning, staying organized
and taking action indirectly it teaches students how to solve probl em s and it also teaches students how to w ork

> For conclusion, hom ew ork actually give m any advantages to stude nts and it is helpful to hel p students to be
m ore understand on what they had l earn from what their teachers teach. Besides that, hom ew ork helps teachers
determ ine how well the l essons are being understood by their students. I totally agreed with topic is hom ew ork

DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY

1]holi

Holi is known as a festival of colours, fun and frolic. It is a festival of the Hindus. It usually comes in March. It is celebrated with gaiety
in North India. Of late the South is also catching up with the North in celebrating this festival of colours.

There are different stories about the importance of the festival. It is said that at one stage a demon by name Tarakasura conquered all
'Lokas or worlds' including heaven and was teasing the 'Devas'. It became necessary for the Devas to pray to Lord Siva to bring forth a
person who could conquer Taraka. But Lord Siva was in deep 'Tapas'. He was not showing any interest towards Parvati, who was
devotedly serving him with a desire to marry. Then the 'Devas' requested 'Manmadha, the God of Love' to help them and disturb the
'Tapas' of Lord Siva. He shot his flower arrows at Lord Siva which disturbed his meditation. Lord Siva got angry and burnt 'Manmada' to
ashes by opening his third eye. But the arrow had its effect and Siva had to love Parvati and Kartikeya was born, who later killed
Tarakasura. The bonfire raisd on the festive occasion is to represent the 'Kamadahana' by Lord Siva.

Some people connect the colour festival to Rasalila of Lord Krishna with Gopikas. Whatever may be the story behind Holi, the bonfire
symbolises burning of evil for the sake of good. The Holi day is full of fun and frolic. All men and women, boys and girls and children
join in the sprinkling of colours. Differences are forgotten. Enmity does not find a place. All are friends. Even old people join the fun.
They use Abir and Gulal.Till noon the singing and dancing go on with no restrictions whatsoever. Buckets of colour water are sprinkled.
Youngsters play till they are completely drenched in colour. Even dignitaries like ministers including the Prime Minister and the
President partake in the fun. Satire, irony and abuse are freely used with no offence. The mirth is over by noon. After a rich meal of
special dishes people go to meet their friends and relations., The evening bonfires are lit in some places. During the previous night
people dance around the fire and make merry.

It is not a festival of colours but also a festival of unity and friendship. All barriers like caste, creed, position, and language are forgotten
and men and women join the fun.

3] the beach

A draught blew by me taking my spirit with it. The strands of hair crossed my face; the sun peaked its way above the horizon as if
it was scared to shed some light. The smell of the salty sea tingled my nose as I breathed in a breath of fresh air. The sand was a mine field
of corals, with a collection of many different multicolored sea shells; however at the same time, the sand was a bed of blankets. The way
the sand flowed onto my feet and out to the spaces between my toes made my heart somehow pound like a synchronized drum beat in a
marching band. It was as delicate as a new born baby; the grains were so fine that it could not possibly be visible by the human eye. The
waves were singing me a dulcet lullaby, making me reminisce my childhood and drawing me closer into them. They were inviting me in,
with their everlasting arms wide opened but my feet wouldn’t listen at this hour because the frigid waves penetrated my feet. So I sat
down, watching the sun stretch its way out of bed.

As minutes ticked by, the warm rays gradually glowed; he greeted me with a friendly hello. He reached down towards me and
shined a streak of light as if he wanted to lend me a hand. The blazing light pierced through my cold skin and gave me an immediate boost
of excitement. The sun worked his way up to the sky, distributing its power to everything at its sight. Birds were singing into my ear with
high spirits, roaming around the sky trying to claim it for itself. The sky shed its color from dark misty indigo to an illuminated shimmering
blue sky. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fainted away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkled
like diamond and the cold waters began to heat up. I walked up to the edge of the beach again and dunked my toe into the water. It felt as
if my numbed foot from before melted into a puddle mixed with the ocean. My acidic stomach turned to its side as the pungent smell of
decayed algae filled the air. I could hear the fish in the ocean screaming for attention; at the same time I could smell their fear toward the
sea gulls that were hungry looking for any fish in the water for lunch.

People began to come out of their homes and enjoy the extraordinary gift God has created for us. Eventually, the beach became a
room filled with laughter. Children are scooping up the featherlike sand and remolding them into magnificent image of their wild
imagination. I stretch my legs and slouch down on the platform of the beach; with an ice cream in one hand melting its way to freedom, I
spy on everyone on the beach. A group of teenage boys are playing tag with the girls as if they were kids again; the beach really did bring
everyone closer to each other and bring back memories of your childhood. Everything was possible to do at the beach. From the way
people dress to the things they do, it describes them and their unique personality. Mad balls are thrown around in the air as people play
volleyball, football, soccer and all sorts of different ball games. Sweat dripped down everyone’s faces after playing hard out in the sun;
some race to reapply sunscreen on their dehydrated flashed red skin whilst the others take a dive into the ocean to cool off. Water is
splashed everywhere from the people fooling around and the reflection of their faces showing a huge grin are drawn on the waves. The
waves show a smile in return and create a huge wave that carries everyone safely back onto the shore. Out onto the far ocean, I can see
glimpse of people riding jet-skis racing as fast as a bullet toward the never ending horizon and up above; a humongous shade of red, blue
and green drizzle onto the shore as the parasails fly back in for landing. The sun is getting tired and is slowly lying off its heat; towels are
given out and the shops alongside are packing up getting ready to close down. I could smell the success they have earned today and their
high hopes for tomorrow’s work awaits them.

The day is ending, and slowly one by one, people are leaving after an exciting but tiresome day at the beach; however I could
almost see their lively hearts smiling at me. Some stay around to see the spectacular view of when the sun sets and make a wish upon the
horizon. Finally the sun dipped into a pool of internal light, and the reflections of the waves saluted me as if for a moment I was part of the
beach.

4] sunset at beach

Peace. Serenity. Contentment. A mixture of all of these creates the unmatched feeling that overwhelms me when I’m at the beach,
watching the constant ebb of the waves.

It’s only me on the beach, allowing me to enjoy the sunset, undisturbed. The sun, a fiery orb, looks like it’s gradually receding into the
waters below. The sky consists of an assortment of shades, a blend of reds, oranges and yellows. The waters below mirror this effect. The
waves are tinted vermilion, with underlying streaks of blue that clash with it. The sand below my feet is the same color, making me feel
like a firewalker – daring and bold. The contrast created between the dark waters and the luminous sky makes the horizon look like a
meeting of two worlds – the known and the unknown. It’s breathtakingly beautiful, and I’m speechless as I stand before this magnificent
sight.

Nothing disturbs me as I slowly sit down on the sand. All I can hear is the sound of the waves as they crash against the shore, and seagulls,
which I cannot see, squawk in the distance. The wind whispers in my ear as it plays with my hair, as if it is telling me it’s deepest, darkest
secrets. It is all so pure and cleansing, so much so that I feel intrusive when I scratch my foot – the sound seems loud and resounding.

The fishy smell is oddly comforting. It smells warm and salty, as I breathe in the cold, salty. The smell is chaste and unpolluted, a welcome
change from the smog that envelops me in the city. It is the smell of freedom, and it makes me want to get up and run along the shore,
which is exactly what I do. As I run, the wind whips my face, blowing my hair back. The salty air makes my eyes water and my feet tingle.
The sand is soft beneath my feet, as I run close to the ocean, dodging the waves that try to push me over. I almost fall – the water makes
me slip, and I stumble clumsily. My arms are thrown apart, grasping the empty air. I stop, breathless, and feel the stickiness settling on my
skin, as I walk towards the ocean to wash my feet.

All of that is forgotten when I look out into the horizon again. Without me noticing, the sun has almost set. The sky is more purple than red
now, highlighting the transition from day to night. I lean back and stare at the sky, noticing the different hues. I breathe in deeply as I lie
down, my eyes shutting involuntarily, as I slowly fall asleep.

5] library

Today education is no longer a system of ‘cramming and filling students minds with information but rather it is a process of self discovery
encouraging them to learn on their own. It is said, “What is taught is not caught but what is read remains”. In this context school libraries
have come to play a significant role in the present-day educational system. They are an integral part of the modern school set-up.
My school has an excellent and well set-up library. It consists of a large hall filled with shelves, bookstands and furniture. The room is airy
and spacious. More than hundred students can use it at the same time. The librarian’s office is situated at the entrance. Here one can get the
catalogue and see the latest arrivals. My school library is divided into three sections: (i). General Book’s section (ii). Students’ Reading
Room (iii). Teacher’s Reference Section. The Students’ Reading Room is situated close to the entrance and leads to the general book section
while teacher’s reference section is situated at the far end of the library.

There is the entire collection of Encyclopedia Britannica which is a real help for students. Each shelf contains a particular category of books.
The stories’ section is the most sought after section of the library. The computer section in our school is said to be the best in the region. One
part of the library also contains a textbook section from where students who are too poor to buy the textbooks can borrow. Students can also
borrow any book of the library with the permission of the librarian. The front section of the Library serves as Students Reading Room. It
contains some newspapers and magazines. Students can read them during the recess time. The teacher’s Reference section serves both as
reading room as well as a room for reading up resource books.

It is in this backdrop that today school libraries have acquired importance. Education today is much more than mere textbook education. It
calls for wider understanding, and requires much more reference. Moreover a good library encourages students to seek knowledge on their
own. Libraries are storehouses of knowledge waiting to be used. They instill in the young minds, the habit of reading, which will stand them
in good stead in the future. The reference section helps them to clear their doubts while the reading room makes them conversant with the
current affairs and day-to-day events of their country as well as of the whole world.

Thus, a good library is an asset. It widens student’s mind, improves their knowledge, clears their doubts and instills in them the habit of
reading. Libraries help to make learning a self-discovery and a personal venture

NARRATIVE ESSAY

1] A waking nightmare

I don't know if something is following us or we just keep picking the wrong houses, but this is my story.
My family and I used to live in a four plex, upstairs. I heard a story about the guy that used to live there that fell off the top
balcony because he was drunk, but I didn't believe! Well one night, after dinner, my friend and I were standing in the kitchen
talking and laughing. My back was faced to the counter and she was standing near the stove. There was some dishes on the
counter, and also the bowl that had the rice in it and the big spoon we served with sitting in it. We were talking and all of a
sudden my friend grabbed my arm and yelled "OH MY GOD" and she was looking behind me. I turned just in time to see the
spoon that was sitting in the bowl flipping in the air and landed on the floor. I asked her what the heck just happened and she
said that it looked like someone hit the spoon handle and it started flipping in the air. We told my mom but she laughed like
she didn't believe us.

A few nights later I went to bed early because I had to wake up early the next morning. I had a weird dream: My mom, aunt, little
sister and I all moved into an old house. All the old furniture was still there and it was nice enough so we decided to keep it. My
aunt was cleaning the dining room while I was cleaning the living room. There was a pot full of dying leaves hanging from the
archway into the living room with a rug underneath to catch the leaves. When I bent down to pick up the rug I seen a little boys face
appear in the rug. I told my aunt and she told me to get rid of it because it might hold a spirit, so I put it in the garbage bag.
I decided to sleep in the living room that night because there was a big bed there and it looked clean. We all decided to go to bed
and as I was getting cozy, I heard a woman's voice coming from the dining room telling me to breath. I looked over to were the
voice was coming from and told her I was breathing. Then she said it again and she was coming closer. She was hovering over me
telling me to breath and I was trying to tell her I was breathing but she wouldn't listen. Then she reached out to me and I woke up.
2] THE DAY WHEN EVERYTHING WENT WRONG
Life has its ups and downs, highs and lows. Sometimes you feel as if you are on top of the world, other times you feel as if everyone or
everything has turned against you. I vividly recall a day when nothing went as I expected. Everything seemed out to get me, to trick me. It
was the hardest test of my patience and perseverance.
My parents were away for the whole day, trusting me to be independent enough to take care of my daily needs. There would not be any
adult supervision, just me. Hooray! It was my wildest dream come true. It was going to be the best day of my life! "Ring..." the alarm
clock rang madly, rudely awakening me from my deep slumber. Horror of horrors, I was late for school! Scrambling around the house like
a madcap, I managed to dress myself in just a few seconds, breaking my usual record. As the saying goes ' Haste makes waste',
buttons seemed to evade themselves from my fingertips, while the books and pencils seemed to hide themselves, making me search
every nook and cranny for them, wasting my precious seconds away. My burn toasts, too, slipped from my butterfingers and landed with
the buttered side on the floor. Typical Murphy's Law!
At long last, I was ready but the bus had gone. So I got out my bicycle, wiping away cobwebs from my face. Oh dear! My bike was not
exactly in its first flush of youth. I shuddered as my eyes ran through its bruised and battered frame. Heaving a great sigh, I consigned
myself to it with some trepidation and started my journey. On a bright, sunny morning like that, cycling should be a delightful way to
admire Mother Nature at her best. However, I supposed I had got up from the wrong side of the bed. So, there I was, growling and
muttering under my breath. And Lady Luck was certainly not on my side too. My aged bicycle proved to be no match for a tiny pebble,
and so down I went, school bag and all, landing on the sidewalk like a sack of potatoes. An acute pain shot up my leg, and a nasty
wound bled profusely. Muffling a cry, I willed myself to get up. "Just grin and bear it!" my inner voice said. Tears stung my eyes as I
hobbled painfully to school, wheeling my bicycle lugging my bag I was a pitiful sight.
I managed to reach school without doing myself anymore bodily harm. After being reprimanded by my teacher for being late, I felt
under the weather and snapped at everyone like a bear with a sore head. Luckily, classes passed uneventfully. Thank God for that! As
the day dragged by slowly, I practically had to pinch my arms every two seconds to prevent myself from dozing off. Needless to say,
lessons went on but nothing went into my hazy mind that swarmed in space like a zombie. Saved by the bell! The walls of the institution
shook as pupils spread their wings and flew off beyond the school gates, where freedom awaited them. Just in time I remembered that my
friends and I were going fishing later in the afternoon. It was my maiden trip and nothing was going to spoil my day. In a split-second, my
mood brightened and I whistled all the way home, forgetting about the past events in the morning.
At last, everything was ready. All my friends were there and the fishing equipment had been prepared in advance. Then. as luck would
have it, big billowing clouds started to cover the bright sun. Thunder rumbled threateningly and rain was imminent. I prayed silently imploring
the sun to chase away the clouds. Alas, my hopes was dashed as big drops of rain began to fall. Downcast, I trudged home. Drenched
from head to toe, I did not even give my soaked condition a thought. Disappointment was hard to bear and a bitter pill to swallow,
especially in big doses like this. I fought back tears of despair, reproaching myself for being such a baby.
Once home, I was relived with joy to find my parents back. I dashed into my mum's arms, sobbing out my woes. I related to her the
unfortunate incidents of the day. Mum, my confidante, my sunshine after the rain, my bright shining star who guided me through the thorns
of teenage years, provided me a shoulder to cry on. At last, I was able to retrospect rationally and find humour in being such a fool on
the day when everything went wrong.
3]a day without electricity
Today as we live in a world of technology, one of the most basic necessities of life is electricity. Today we cannot imagine living without
it. What if there was no electricity for an entire day! How would it feel? Well! It's Sunday morning and there's something different - no
electricity the entire day. Life seems to have come to a standstill without electricity.
My first custom of the day after waking up is to head towards the bathroom to brush my teeth, and have a shower. I experienced a chill
when cold water hit me; I realized there is only cold water available. The geyser was not working as there was no electricity. Feeling
refreshed and revitalized after a cold shower, I headed towards the frost free refrigerator for a snack, only to discover that the food in
the refrigerator was warm and had been turned into something new. Refrigerators play an important role in food preservation, but
without electricity they are useless. Surely a nice, hot cup of coffee would help me forget the ordeal that I was going through till now. So
I ran to the coffee vending machine to have a cup of hot coffee, but realized that without electricity the coffee machine was anything but
useful. My hopes of having coffee seemed more like a dream. Reading the Sunday newspapers I realized that there would be no
electricity supply for the entire day.
I could not watch my favourite TV programmes the entire day. The lift in my apartment was not working so I had to trudge up and down
nearly becoming breathless. The exercise was helpful no doubt for my fitness! Just when I needed to send some urgent e-mails on my
laptop, it shut down and I could not recharge the same. Co-incidentally, the gas also finished and neither did the induction cooker nor
the microwave would work on account of power supply failure, and so I had to be satisfied with cold lunch. Well! Thank the weather, it
was not so hot that day, or else I would have got roasted in the heat. Eventually, power supply was restored in the evening and the only
thing that I could say was - what a relief! The incident also helped me appreciate the value of electricity as an essential resource.

4] a visit to museum
A museum is a building in which we see objects of artistic, cultural, historical and scientific interest. These things are kept here for the
public. It is a treasure house of great knowledge. It makes us familiar with the history, culture, civilization, life style, religious practices, art
and architecture of the country. It offers a peep into the country’s ancient social, political, cultural, economic and religious life of the people.
During the summer break I had an opportunity to visit the famous National Museum of Delhi. The Museum building is majestic and is itself
a centre of great attraction. When I along with my family members entered the main building we were stunned to see systematic and well-
arranged display of various objects of art and architecture. The building has been divided into many sections as per the subjects and periods
of history. First of all, we saw images, sculptures, rock-engraved scriptures, coins, terra cotta and various objects of historical and
archaeological value. The entire museum has been divided into many compartments, namely anthropological division and display section,
etc. In archaeological section there were coins, statues, bricks, etc. Anthropological section mainly displayed relics and remains of ancient
species of animals, and human beings. Manuscripts in different languages were also displayed in archaeological sections. Charts, paintings,
murals, etc. were the attraction in the archaeological section. We saw ancient dresses, royal robes and weapons of great rulers. Coins of
different periods of time made us familiar with the artistic skill and technological progress of the time. It was very interesting to see the
historic Ajanta and Ellora paintings in one corner of the museum. We also enjoyed the vivid depiction of the lives of Lord Rama, Lord
Krishna, Lord Buddha. The visit of this section presents a glimpse of the glorious past of India.

The entire first floor was allotted to the vivid display of the Indus valley civilization. The relics of this most ancient civilization of the world
were presented in the forms of beads, broken pitchers, toys, stones and skulls. These things were excavated from the various centers of
civilization like Harappa, Mohanjodaro, Lothal, Kalibanga, Ropar, etc. The military equipment’s of different periods of history have been
displayed in the second floor. There were weapons like swords, spears, sheets, shields, helmets, and different types of dresses of army
general and military commander. We were thrilled to see the heroes and heroines of our country. Many things instilled in us a sense of pride
and they inspired us as well.
In short, the entire museum presented a miniature India of different periods of time. It displayed the whole gamut of India’s life and
literature. This visit enriched our knowledge and learning. It has a deep and lasting impression on my mind. It was indeed a thrilling
experience.
5] a birthday party gone wrong

When summer comes, everyone is either planning a trip out of the country or a fun holiday to Bahamas, Hawaii name them. But, for my
friend John, summer was the best time to hold a party at their home and have some friends come over. Last summer it happened to be
his birthday month and he decided to celebrate it in style.

You see John is the kind of people who cannot withdraw from something until it is done no matter what. Last summer holiday, his dad
planned to visit the famous Hawaii and excitement was building. But for John, his mind was planning the party and this included having
a venue, drinks (in this case alcohol), girls and his friends. Earlier on, he had hinted the idea to me but, being brought up in a family
where partying was for the rich and spoilt kids, I opposed the idea will full force, though it had been long since I went partying and have
fun. John had told me that his parents were going for a trip though he was to be left behind to man the house. He gladly accepted
knowing that he will have the house all by himself and the venue was sorted. After much thought, I agreed to the idea and invitation
were made to all the friends. Being a holiday, most of our age mates are idle, so they will agree on anything as long as it is fun.

I remember the party was to be held on a Friday. So on that date, as usual I left a message home that I will be spending the night at
John’s. My parents had no problem with that since this was not the first time. As planned, we made the arrangement, alcohol was in
plenty, and girls were to arrivestarting evening accompanied by their counterparts. Evening came and everything was set, music system
check, drinks check, girls check, food check, lighting check so, may the birthday party begin. The party started at seven o’clock with
guests streaming in every minute dressed in spectacular clothes to commemorate the night. I was very excited to see everyone
especially John who was now sipping his drink while dancing to the rhythm of the music. By ten o’clock John’s house was packed and
everyone was busy. Some drinking, other socializing while others danced to the rhythm of the loud music. It was approaching twelve
o’clock and I can confirm that about 99% of those who had attended were drunk and some lamenting and “talking in tongues.” I would
call it that because no one could understand what the other person was saying.

Few minutes to one and I locked the door to contain the noise in the house. The temperatures were rising while more and more people
joined the dancefloor as alcohol had taken the better part of their system. At about one o’clock, I had a knock at the door and for a
moment I became sober. Before getting the door, I dashed towards the balcony where John was chatting with some girls and dragged
him away. “Are you expecting anybody else at this hour?” I asked. John said no but he could feel the nervousness in my voice. I told
him that there was someone knocking the door and shouting his name. I also added that according to how the voice was calling his
name, it seemed familiar. John shunned me off and told me may be it was one of his friends calling. “Let’s go check it out,” he said. I
followed him. By now the knocking had graduated into banging and that’s where I sensed danger. John got the door knob and quickly
opened the door and the next thing I see is John rolling on the ground after a thunderous slap. I moved back a few steps and kept some
distance to allow the intruder to come in. Alas! His father emerged from the front door so furious that I thought he could swallow
everyone in the room. Where did he come from? I thought he was on an 8 hour flight to Hawaii? What could have happened? These
were some of the questions running through my mind. John had now become sober. Just looking at his father’s face, you needed no
notice that the party was over. All over a sudden, everyone was sober and running for their lives. John was given a thorough beating. If I
could describe it right, I could call it a dogs beating. I have never forgotten that day since I could just stare at John as he received blows
for all of us. Of course I also went home but I learnt later that the flight had been counseled due to bad weather.

Today, I always remind John of the mighty door slap and I can help but laugh at how the whole situation came down. For your
information, John was grounded for a month with no TV or any electronic device. Quite traumatizing.
If parents give money to their child …it is believed that is too young to handle it and may lost
it somewhere
So they prefer not to give them ….whereas on the side of the children it may not seem to
come true
..they feel they are enough responsible to handle money so they demand for pocket money
