Wireless Sync Quick Start Guide for Verizon Wireless PN-820

Welcome to the Wireless Sync service from Verizon Wireless. This


guide will walk you through the steps necessary to set up your Verizon
Wireless PN-820.
This Quick Start Guide will help you:
 Create your Wireless Sync account
 Identify your email source
 Select your device
 Install software
 Synchronize your device
 Next Steps

Create your Wireless Sync account


Follow the instructions in this section to set up your Wireless Sync account.
1. Open Internet Explorer on your PC.
2. Go to http://www.wirelesssync.vzw.com to access the Wireless Sync server login page.
3. Click the ‘Sign Up Now!’ button to create a new account
- or -
Logon with an existing Verizon Wireless VText account Mobile Number and Password

4. You will be presented with the 3 Easy Steps to setup Wireless Sync. Read through the 3 Easy
Steps and then click the ‘Setup Wireless Sync Now’ link.

5. If you will use Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Outlook as your email source, click on
the link for your chosen platform to open the Quick Start Guide for setting up the desktop
software required to support those environments.

6. Click the ‘Next’ button to proceed with the setup.

7. If you used the ‘Sign Up Now’ button to start the setup process, you will be prompted to create
a permanent password by following the instructions in step 1a. Wireless Sync Account Setup.

8. Read the agreement in step 1b. Terms and Conditions and click ‘Agree’.

9. Complete all required fields on step 1c. Account Information and click ‘Next’.

Ensure the checkbox for ‘I’ve


verified that the above time zone
is correct’ has been checked
before clicking ‘Next’ to proceed
with the setup.

Identify your email source
Read the descriptions for two options available on step 2. Identify Your Email Source page. Select
the option that applies best to you and follow the detailed instructions below for that option.

Corporate email – Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino/Notes


1. Select the Corporate email – Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino/Notes option and
click ‘Next’.
2. There are two options available on step 2a. Corporate Email Source Setup.

a. ‘Install the PC Monitor software on this PC now’
i. Choose this first option to install the PC Monitor software on the PC where you are
currently logged in.
ii. Click ‘Next’ to review the PC Monitor System Requirements.

iii. It is recommended that you review the Quick Start Guide for your corporate email
platform before you proceed with the PC Monitor installation.
iv. To continue setup, click ‘Next’ and skip to Page 8, Select Your Device. The PC Monitor
software will be installed on your PC at the end of the setup process.

b. ‘Do not install the PC Monitor software on this PC now’


i. Choose this if you would like to install the PC Monitor at a later time or if you have
another PC Monitor available to you.

NOTE: The PC Monitor software can be installed at a later time by logging into the
user account and selecting the appropriate link from the ‘Account Setup’ page.
ii. Skip to Page 8, Select Your Device.

Internet /POP3 / IMAP Email
1. Select the Internet / POP3 /IMAP Email option and click ‘Next’.
2. There are two options available on step 2a. Internet Email Source.

a. ‘Retrieve My Email for Me’


i. Choose this option if you would like to have the Wireless Sync server collect email from
your POP or IMAP server for you.

ii. Enter in the email address and the password for your Internet email account and click
‘Next’ to continue.

NOTES:
(1) The Wireless Sync server will attempt to automatically configure your account
settings. If the server is unable to configure your account settings you will be
prompted and required to manually configure the Internet Mail Connection Settings
for your Internet email source in the Advanced Setup Options.
(2) Hotmail and MSN are not supported by Wireless Sync.
(3) POP email sources that require SSL access are not supported in this configuration.
It is recommended to the option ‘Use Outlook to Retrieve My Email’ described in
the next section if your POP email source requires SSL access.

iii. Skip to Page 8, Select Your Device.

b. ‘Use Outlook to Retrieve My Email’
i. Choose this option to install the PC Monitor for Outlook software on the PC where
you are currently logged in.
ii. Click ‘Next’ to review the PC Monitor for Outlook System Requirements. It is
recommended that you review the Quick Start Guide before you install.

iii. Click ‘Next’ and skip to Page 8, Select Your Device. The software will be installed on your
PC at the end of the setup process.

Select your device
After you have identified your email source, you will be prompted to select your device.
1. Select the ‘I use a Verizon Wireless PN-820’ option.

NOTES:
• You have the option of installing Trip and Appointment Plus Extensions for
Microsoft Outlook. Click the link on the page to learn more about this option.
• It is possible to continue without installing a device. Click the ‘More Info’ link to learn
about this option.
2. Click ‘Next’ to continue and install the Wireless Sync software.

Install software
You will be prompted to install the software based on the options selected during the setup process.

1. The Verizon Wireless PN-820 comes with the Wireless Sync provisioning client already installed.
For details on installing the Wireless Sync client through the provisioning client go to
‘Synchronize your device’ on page 10 of this guide. Click ‘next’ to continue.
a. If you selected the Corporate Email or PC Monitor for Outlook option during the ‘Select
Email Source’ section of the setup process, this software will also be installed at this point.
b. Follow the Windows installer prompts to complete this install.
c. Click ‘Download Complete’ in the PC browser to finish the setup process.

Synchronize your device
1. On your Verizon Wireless PN-820, select the Wireless Sync
Icon from your Programs menu.
2. This will display the Wireless Sync provisioning client, which
will automatically download the latest client for your Verizon
Wireless PN-820. Tap on ‘Start’ to begin the download and
installation of the client.

3. After the client has downloaded and installed on your device


the Wireless Sync on device setup client will be displayed. If
you have already configured your Wireless Sync account,
select ‘Cancel’.

4. This will display the main screen of the Wireless Sync client.
Tap sync to begin synchronization. When prompted, enter
your Wireless Sync password.

5. On the first synchronization event you will be prompted to


‘Refresh’ or ‘Merge’ the data in Wireless Sync with the data
on the device.
a. If you selected ‘Corporate email’ when configuring your
email source, it is recommended to select the ‘Refresh’
option.
b. If you selected ‘Internet email’ as your email source, it is
recommended to select the ‘Merge’ option. To select
‘Merge’ select ‘Menu’ then scroll to ‘Merge’.
Your device is now configured and synchronized with Wireless Sync. Keep the device radio
powered on and you will continue to get your information pushed to you!

Create Your Wireless Sync Account from Your Verizon Wireless PN-820
Internet/POP3/IMAP Account Configuration
1. Launch the Wireless Sync client from the Start Menu on
your device.
2. Click ‘Start’ to begin the download and installation of
the Wireless Sync client.

3. After the Wireless Sync client has been installed, the


Wireless Sync on device setup process will begin. The
first screen will ask you if your company has its own
Wireless Sync server. Wireless Sync hosted site users
(www.wirelesssync.vzw.com) should leave this checkbox
unselected and select ‘Next’.

4. Next you will be asked if you already have a Wireless


Sync password. Your Wireless Sync password is the
same as your VText (or Verizon Wireless Single Sign
On) password. If you know your password select ‘Yes’
(skip to step 8). If you do not remember your password
select ‘Menu’ then ‘Forgot Password’ and continue to
step 7. For users without a Wireless Sync/VText
password select ‘Menu’ then ‘No’. This will allow you to
create your password and continue through the Wireless
Sync registration process.
5. Users who selected ‘Forgot Password’ in step 6 will be
presented with a screen to create a new Wireless Sync
password. Enter your new password then select ‘OK’.

6. On the account validation screen you will be asked to


enter your mobile phone number, and your password.
You will also be asked to read the Wireless Sync Terms
and Conditions. Select the red ‘Read Terms &
Conditions’ box to view them. After you have read the
Terms and Conditions scroll to the bottom of the
account validation screen, select the ‘I agree to Terms &
Conditions’ and select ‘Next’.

7. Verify your home time zone. Scroll down the screen
and enter your address information including city, state,
and zip code. When you are complete select ‘OK’ to
continue.

8. You have the option to set up two different types of


email accounts within Wireless Sync. Home users will
want to create an ‘Internet Email’ account. This will give
you access to POP/IMAP email sources (Note: MSN
and Hotmail are not supported). Enter your Email
Address and password and continue to step 11.
Corporate users who which to use PC Monitor to access
their corporate Exchange or Domino email should select
‘Exchange or Domino email’ by selecting the arrows on
the screen (skip Corporate Email Account Configuration
on page 13).
9. Your Wireless Sync account is now configured and ready
to use. Select ‘Done’.

10. Select ‘Sync’ to begin your initial synchronization session


(go to ‘Synchronize your Device’ on page 10).

Corporate Email Account Configuration
Users of a corporate email backed, such as Microsoft Exchange or
Lotus Domino can enter their email address here; however, they
need to install and configure the PC Monitor software which can
only be done through the Wireless Sync website
(http://www.wirelesssync.vzw.com/monitor). These email sources
require a PC Monitor to be installed and monitor your email server
for changes. Please go to the ‘Corporate email – Microsoft
Exchange or Lotus Domino/Notes’ section on page 4 of this guide
for more information.

Next Steps
If you selected the Corporate email or PC Monitor for Outlook option for your email source,
please continue with the configuration of your PC Monitor. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for your
target platform for more information. Once the PC Monitor is configured, you will begin to receive
your email and PIM (calendar, contacts, tasks and notes) data wirelessly.
If you selected the Internet email option you will begin to receive your email after the Wireless Sync
server has successfully loaded your messages from the email source. This may take several minutes
depending on the amount of mail on your server.
