Information are the result of our long service experience PCI No. 389 / May 2018
regarding fretting traces on cylinder liners.

Important Facts Concerns


All versions of the engine families:
Depending on the operational conditions of the engine,
cylinder liner and cylinder crankcase may be affected by L+V32/40, L+V32/44, L+V35/44,
fretting. These fretting marks appear in the area of the lower L+V40/54, L+V48/60, L+V51/60,
locating bore of the cylinder liner and the cylinder crankcase. L58/64

The fretting signs are caused by relative movements between


cylinder liner and cylinder crankcase initiated by a combination
of dynamic forces and prevailing vibrations.

At this location the signs are harmless and do not affect the
function adversely. Depending on the operational conditions,
fretting might occur earlier or later during the engine lifetime.

To support you in the case of evaluation and when carrying


out maintenance works, we provide you with attached work
card M010.050.010-12-0001.
