the analysis of data through tabulation, computation and graphical representation of data
collected from survey.
The fifth chapter deals with the findings, suggestion & conclusion part which is very much
important after analysis is made.

suggestions for improvements of the report will be great fully appreciated.
CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION
1. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
2. REVIEW OF LITRATURE
3. RETIONAL BEHIND STUDY
4. OBJECTIVE OF STUDY
INTRODUCTION OF CREDIT CARD
A credit card is a small plastic card issued to users as a system of payment. It allows its holder to
buy goods and services based on the holder's promise to pay for these goods and services. The
issuer of the card creates a revolving account and grants a line of credit to the consumer (or the
user) from which the user can borrow money for payment to a merchant or as a cash advance to
the user.
A credit card is different from a charge card: a charge card requires the balance to be paid in full
each month. In contrast, credit cards allow the consumers a continuing balance of debt, subject to
interest being charged. Most credit cards are issued by banks or credit unions, and are the shape
and size specified by the ISO/IEC 7810 standard as ID-1. This is defined as 85.60 × 53.98 mm
(3.370 × 2.125 in) (33/8 × 21/8 in) in size..
Like most things, there are advantages and disadvantages to credit cards. Knowing some of these
can help you decide if you do or do not want to use credit cards.
Advantages
Purchase Power and Ease of Purchase - Credit cards can make it easier to buy things. If
you don't like to carry large amounts of cash with you or if a company doesn't accept cash
purchases (for example most airlines, hotels, and car rental agencies), putting purchases on a
credit card can make buying things easier.
Protection of Purchases - Credit cards may also offer you additional protection if something
you have bought is lost, damaged, or stolen. Both your credit card statement (and the credit
card company) can vouch for the fact that you have made a purchase if the original receipt is
lost or stolen. In addition, some credit card companies offer insurance on large purchases.
Building a Credit Line - Having a good credit history is often important, not only when
applying for credit cards, but also when applying for things such as loans, rental applications,
or even some jobs. Having a credit card and using it wisely (making payments on time and in
full each month) will help you build a good credit history.
Emergencies - Credit cards can also be useful in times of emergency. While you should
avoid spending outside your budget (or money you don't have!), sometimes emergencies
(such as your car breaking down or flood or fire) may lead to a large purchase (like the need
for a rental car or a motel room for several nights.)
Credit Card Benefits - In addition to the benefits listed above, some credit cards offer
additional benefits, such as discounts from particular stores or companies, bonuses such as
free airline miles or travel discounts, and special insurances (like travel or life insurance.)
While most of these benefits are meant to encourage you to charge more money on your
credit card (remember, credit card companies start making their money when you can't afford
to pay off your charges!) the benefits are real and can be helpful as long as you remember
your spending limits.
Disadvantages
Blowing Your Budget -- The biggest disadvantage of credit cards is that they encourage
people to spend money that they don't have. Most credit cards do not require you to pay off
your balance each month, so even if you only have $100, you may be able to spend up to
$500 or $1,000 on your credit card. While this may seem like 'free money' at the time, you
will have to pay it off -- and the longer you wait, the more money you will owe since credit
card companies charge you interest each month on the money you have borrowed.
High Interest Rates and Increased Debt -- Credit card companies charge you an
enormous amount of interest on each balance that you don't pay off at the end of each
month. This is how they make their money and this is how most people in the United States
get into debt (and even bankruptcy.) Consider this: If you have a $100 in savings, most banks
will give you at the most 2.0 to 2.5% interest on your money over the course of the year. This
means you earn $2.00 - $2.50 a year on your $100 savings. Most credit cards charge you up
to 10 times that amount of interest on balances. This means that if you have $100 balance
that you don't pay off, you will be charged 20-25% interest on that $100. This means that you
owe almost $30 interest (plus the original $100) at the end of the year. A good way to look at
this is in comparison to what you would earn in interest from a bank or owe in interest to a
bank loan: Savings accounts may pay you around 2% interest; if you have a loan from a bank
you may pay them around 10% interest (5 times as much as you earn off your savings); if
you owe money to a credit card company, you may pay them around 20% interest (10 times
as much as you earn off your savings.)
Credit Card Fraud - Like cash, sometimes credit cards can be stolen. They may be
physically stolen (if you lose your wallet) or someone may steal your credit card number
(from a receipt, over the phone, or from a Web site) and use your card to rack up debts. The
good news is that, unlike cash, if you realize your credit card or number has been stolen and
you report it to your credit card company immediately, you will not be charged for any
purchases that someone else has made. Even if you don't realize your credit card number has
been stolen (sometimes you might not know until you receive your monthly statement), most
credit card companies don't charge you or only charge a small fee, like $25 or $50, even if
the thief has charged thousands of dollars to your card. There are several things you can do to
prevent credit card fraud:
o If you lose your card or wallet, report it to your credit card company immediately.
o Don't loan your credit card to anyone and only give out your credit card
information to trusted companies or Web sites.
o Check your statement closely at the end of each month to make sure all charges
are yours.
o You can find out more about protecting your personal information by visiting our
Personal Safety course.
Credit cards can make life easier and be a great tool, but if they aren't used wisely they can
become a huge financial burden. If you do decide to use credit cards, remember these simple
rules:
INRODUCTION
The State Bank of India, popularly known as SBI, is one of the leading banks in India. The bank
traces its origin to the first decade of the 19th century. Later on, it was merged with the Imperial
Bank. In the year 1955, the Government of India nationalized the Imperial Bank along with the
Reserve Bank of India. Ever since that time, the bank acquired its present name that is SBI.
The State Bank of India is India's largest commercial bank. The bank has been striving sincerely
to adhere to the efforts of providing utmost customer satisfaction to the best possible extent.
I want to do this!
SBI credit cards are the combined work of the State Bank of India, one of the country's largest
banks, and GE Capital Services. The two companies recognized a growing need in the credit
card industry in India and merged to form SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd. (SBICPSL).
Using the Indian currency of Rupees (Rs.), credit card holders can use a broad range of benefits
and advantages that vary depending on the type of SBI credit card they apply for.
Geography
1. SBICPSL intends their credit cards for use by residents of India, Nepal and Bhutan or
companies doing business in those locations. However, cardholders can use their cards all
over the globe. When your receive your monthly statement, you can make payments at
SBICPSL drop box locations, designated State Bank of India locations, through PayNet, by
using your State Bank of India Debit Card and paying at one of 8,000 SBI ATMs, through
State Bank of India bill pay, with automatic monthly withdrawals from a bank account, or a
Visa Money Transfer. These options also make paying your statement possible worldwide.
Types
2. The SBI credit card with the most benefits and features is the SBI PlatinumCard,
followed by the SBI Gold & More Card and the SBI Silver & More Card. All of these have
special offers and features specific to their card type. Other card types include the SBI
Advantage Card (for general use with general features), the SBI Card for Doctors, the SBI
Employee Card, and SBI Partnership Cards such as the SBI GoAir Card, the LG SBI Card
and the SBI Railway Card.
Features/Benefits
3. Among the several features offered by SBI Credit Card services is the Rewards Program.
This voluntary program allows cardholders to earn rewards points based upon the purchases
they make using their cards. The SBI Doctors Card and the SBI Employee Card earn one
reward point for every Rs. 100 (100 Rupees) spent. The SBI Gold & More Card earns
cardholders one reward point for every Rs. 75 and the SBI PlatinumCard earns one point for
every Rs. 50 spent. Additional features and benefits are available to cardholders, depending
on the type of card they have. For example, PlatinumCard holders receive a 2.5 percent
discount on shopping purchases, known as the international markup waiver, as well as global
cash access at more than 1 million Visa ATMs worldwide.
Eligibility
4. To receive any of the features and benefits offered with SBI credit cards, your account
must be valid and in good standing. Additionally, an "eligible transaction" for benefits
rewards can't be a cash withdrawal, cash advance or loan, and must be part of the selected
promotion, charged to the credit card successfully and not charged back to the card (such as
a returned item or purchase credit). The SBI Rewards program is available to holders of SBI
PlatinumCards, SBI Gold & More Cards, SBI Doctors Cards or SBI Employee Cards.
Considerations
5. SBI Cards have joining fees, annual fees and renewal fees, which differ depending on the
type of card you hold and the promotion or offer you participate in. The one-time joining fee
can be up to Rs. 5,000 and the annual fee up to Rs. 1,500. There is a 20- to 50-day interest-
free period on retail purchases, but it is only applicable if you pay the previous month's
statement in full. Finance charges can be up to 3.35 percent per month (40.2 percent per
annum) and the minimum payment due each month is 5 percent of the outstanding balance
(minimum of Rs. 200) plus the current government service tax. There are also fees
associated with cash advances and card protection or other bonus programs you may choose
to participate in.
Instructions
1. Pay off your SBI bill. You cannot cancel the credit card until you have paid off the entire
bill. Since the SBI card is from the biggest bank in India, it is very hard to find another card
company that will take on your balance. So the best thing you can do before you cancel the
card is to make sure that the bill is paid off.
2. Request a copy of the SBI statement so you can ascertain that your card is paid off. You
can do this by visiting their website or by calling them via phone. From Delhi, the number is
(800) 180 1290. Anywhere else, the number is 39 02 02 02. You will need to call to request a
statement.
3. Once you are sure the balance is zero, you will need to either call SBI or visit their
website to request that your card be canceled. You can do this at the customer-care center at
their website, or at the phone numbers listed above.
State Bank of India (SBI) offers a selection of Visa credit card products for residents of India.
Some cards have benefits such as travel rewards or cash back on purchases, while others offer
discounts or make donations to charities. There are also basic credit cards that have lower
interest rates, no annual fees and perks such as concierge services and travel insurance. Applying
for an SBI credit card can be done online through its affiliate website, or directly with the bank
in person at a branch.
Instructions
1. Visit the State Bank of India website (see Resources section below) if you prefer to
apply for a card at a local branch of their bank. The website has a location finder that you
can use to find the bank closest to you.
2. Visit the SBI branch that you choose, and ask the teller to apply for a credit card. You
will be able to discuss your options with a representative, and fill out an application. Be sure
to have a valid photo identification card with you, and be willing to offer information about
your address history as well as income and assets.
3. Visit the SBI section of the India Credit Cards website (see Resources section) as an
alternative to applying in person.
4. Select the credit card product of your choice from the India Credit Cards website and
click the "Apply now" button.
5. Fill out the online SBI India Credit Cards application completely, providing
information such as your full name, address, telephone number, birth date, residency status
and employment information.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Credit cards, including store cards and bankcards, serve two distinct functions for consumers: a
means of payment and a source of credit (Ausubel 1991; Chakravorti 1997, 2000; Chakravorti
and Emmons 2001; Slocum and Matthews 1970; Stavins 2000). Based on the main use of credit
cards and the benefits sought, credit card users can be segmented into two groups: convenience
users and revolvers (Lee and Hogarth 1999). Convenience users tend to employ credit cards as
an easy mode of payment; typically pay their balance in full upon receiving the statement.
Revolvers, on the other hand, use the card principally as a mode of financing and chose to pay
interest charges on the unpaid balance. According to the consumer behavior literature, consumer
usage behavior and the benefits sought from a product or a service are one of the best predictors
to explain consumer purchase behavior(PeterandOlson1999).
Credit cards also serve as an open-ended, easily available credit source ( Lee and Kwon 2002).
When consumers use credit cards as a mode of financing, credit cards compete with bank loans
and other forms of financing (Brito and Hartley 1995). Credit cards allow consumers to borrow
within their credit limit without transaction costs, which includes all the time and effort involved
with obtaining a loan from a financial institution. This convenience attracts many consumers to
pay high interest on outstanding credit card balances, rather than taking the time to apply for a
loan with a lower interest rate. As a result, credit cards account for a substantial and growing
share of consumers' debt (Canner and Luckett 1992).
The popularity of credit cards as a payment medium has been attributed to the convenience of
not carrying cash and checks, the limited liability of lost/ stolen cards, and additional
enhancements, such as dispute resolution services and perks (i.e., frequent-use awards programs)
(Chakravorti 1997, 2000; Chakravorti and Emmons 2001; Whitesell 1992). They are frequently
used for convenience, telephoneandInternettransactions.
The behavior and the attitude of the consumer towards the use and acceptability of credit cards
differ for psychographic reasons (Yang, James and Lester 2005). Xiao, Noting and Anderson
(1995) devised a 38-item scale to measure affectiveness, cognitive and behavioral attitudes
towards credit cards. Affective attitudes involve emotional feelings (e.g. My credit card makes
me feel happy); cognitive attitudes involve thoughts (e.g. Heavy use of credit cards results in
heavy debt); while behavioral attitudes involve actions (e.g. I use my credit card frequently).
Many consumers value uncollateralized credit lines for making purchases when they are illiquid
(i.e. before their incomes arrive), even at relatively high interest rates. Because of limited
alternatives to short-term uncollateralized credit, the demand for such credit may be fairly in-
elastic with respect to price (Brito and Hartley1995)
Ausubel (1991) suggests that consumers may not even consider the interest rate when making
purchases because they do not intend to borrow for an extended period when they make
purchases. However, they may change their minds when thebillarrives.
Stavins (1996) argues that consumers are somewhat sensitive not only to changes in the interest
rate but also to the value of other credit-card enhancements such as frequent-use awards,
expedited dispute resolution, extended warranties, and automobile rental insurance. However,
she agrees with Ausubel (1991), Calem and Mester (1995) that lowering interest rates may
attract less creditworthy consumers, therefore dissuading some credit-card issuers from lowering
their interestrates.
According to Jeans S. Bowers (1979) longitudinal study, low income users of credit cards tend
to use the cards for the installment feature rather than for service features such as convenience,
safety, or identification. It has been suggested that the installment feature of credit is needed by
the low income consumer to permit purchases such as automobiles, furnishings, and other
consumer durables.
Demographics also seem to play a vital role in making a choice and the use of credit cards as a
convenience user or revolver. Age, income level has been studied previously and suggest some
indication for correlation between demographic and use of credit card. According to the study
conducted by Jean Kinsey (1981) the probability of having credit cards and the number held was
correlated highly with age and occupation. However these two characteristics were less
important than the place of residence, use of checki.

Recomendation
Customer awareness programme is required so that more people should attract towards advance
product.
➢ If there are any kind of hidden charges than that must disclose to customer before giving
credit card.
➢ SBI must take some steps so that customers can get their loan in time. Like phone verification
by customer care that one customer is got their loan on time or not .It must be before a certain
date so necessary steps can be taken.
➢ SBI should more concern about physical verification rather than phone verification so I will
avoid fraud or cheating.
➢ Advance product selling agents must not give any type of wrong information regarding
advance product.
➢ For the better service new offers would be require.
➢ SBI customer care should more concern about the fastest settlement of customer problems.
➢ Before deducting or charging any monetary charge SBI must consult with customer.
➢ Agents should be trained, well educated & proper trained to convince the people about
different advance product.
➢ It is the duty of the bank to disclose all the material facts regarding advance product, like
interest charged, repayment period, other types of charges, etc.
➢ Special scheme should be implemented to encourage both customer and agents.
➢ The bank should increase the period for repayment of loan.
➢ SBI should more focus on Retaining existing customers.
➢ SBI must focus on Segmentation based on customer knowledge Product offering based
on customer demand.
➢ SBI must take feedbacks of customers regarding features
