NET (National Eligibility Test) Annexure A

Department of Extension Education in collaboration with LPU academic faculty is planning to


introduce short term coaching and guidance programme for future NET aspirants for their
academic and professional growth and to enhance the placement avenues of its students.
The details about the test is as follows:

1) Objective of the test: The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants
Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for
lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in
order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and
research.

2) Subjects: The Test is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences,


Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and
Electronic Science. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts
the UGC-CSIR NET for other Science subjects, namely, Life Sciences, Physical
Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean &
Planetary Sciences jointly with the UGC

3) Eligibility: Master’s degree with at least 55 % marks or its equivalent grade.


4) NET Schedule: The test is conducted twice a year. First in the month of June and second
in December. In the year 2010 the test will be conducted on 27th June,while the date for
December test will be notified later on .
5) Structure of the test :The Test will consist of three papers.

Scheme of the Test for June Test

The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on 27th June, 2010 in two
separate sessions as under :

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the
candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking
and general awareness of the candidate. UGC has decided to provide choice to the candidates
from the December 2009 UGC-NET onwards. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks
each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the
event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by
the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II shall consist of questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers
will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 compulsory objective type questions of two marks each.
The candidate will have to mark the response for question of Paper-I and Paper-II on the Optical Mark
Reader (OMR) sheet provided alongwith the Test Booklet. The detailed instructions for filling up the
OMR Sheet will be sent to the candidate along with the Admit Card.

Paper-III will consist of only descriptive questions from the subject selected by the candidate. The
candidate will be required to attempt questions in the space provided in the Test Booklet. The
structure of Paper-III has been revised from June,2010 UGC-NET and is available on the UGC
website www.ugc.ac.in. Paper-III will be evaluated only for those candidates who are able to
secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II,

1)Fresh batch will start from every month, subject to the condition that the number of
students in a batch must be atleast 10
2) Registration for first batch will start from May1,2010.
3) The coaching will normally be held before 9 AM or after 5 PM. for LPU
students/staff/faculty.
4) For others it may be held during working hours.
5) Preferably LPU faculty will be deputed for coaching,however, if need be separate
faculty can be recruited. The deputed faculty will be paid 33% of the total fee collected
for a batch.
6) Special concession in fee for batches having more than 20 students, a batch will not
have more than 30 students.
