ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to express our out of the ordinary thanks of gratitude
to our teacher Mr. Eduardo Carag (Field Study Coordinator) as well as the
Head Teacher of Cagayan National High School Mr. Campos and also with
our cooperating teacher Mr. Mark Lee G. Lumaban who gave us the
golden opportunity to do this wonderful project on the subject field study 5
on becoming a teacher which also helped us in doing a lot of things and
we came to know about so many new things we really thankful to them.
Secondly, if would also like to thank our parents and friends who helped me
a lot in finalizing this project within the limited time frame. Teaching and
knowledge give existence and importance for us on becoming a teacher
because this is the development wherein the educator and the learners
work together with each other interchangeably. If there is an efficient
teaching-learning process done by the teacher, it’s actually a big help on
becoming a teacher. It’s a big respect because each supplements each
other. The value placed in teaching will collect the same value in
education. Every now and then, becoming a teacher is the most important.

ASSESSMENT LIST
My Target
At the end of this activity, you will be keen at identifying and naming
different assessment methods used in the classroom.
My Map
To be aware of assessment tools that are used in the classroom, I will
find interest in observing teacher’s assessment practices.
To hit my target, I will work our way through these steps:
Step 5: Reflect on you experience.
Step 4: Confer with your FS teacher your assessment list.
Step 3: Describe how each assessment method was used, including your
personal observations.
Step 2: In your list, classify the assessment methods as to conventional and
authentic/alternative.
Step 1: Observe at least three classes and make list of the assessment methods used by the teachers.

INTRODUCTION
Teachers assess student learning outcomes in order for them to know
what the students know and do. This guides them in attending to the needs
of the students.
In assessing the student learning outcomes, teachers make use of
various kinds of assessment. The type of assessment to be used is
dependent on the teacher’s objectives and on the topic which he had
discussed.
There are two types of assessment. First is the conventional type which
includes paper-and-pencil test, written quizzes, multiple choice type of test,
matching type and the rest. This type of assessment is also called the
traditional assessment. Second is the authentic type of assessment which
includes real life activities such as performance tests, actual tests, and so
on.

ASSESSMENT TOOLS DESCRIPTION
Test Papers (October 9, 2019) - The tool has been used to assess
if the students learned in MAPEH
during the duration of their first
grading period.
My Analysis
1. Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teacher? How
relevant was/were the assessment method/s used?
- Yes. It is very relevant because the activities given are related to the topic.
MAPEH subject is more on the element of fun so the teacher assures that
the students learned during the interaction.
2. Do you think the expected students’ learning behaviors indicated in the
objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those
assessment methods?
- Yes

INSIGHTS LEARNED
In the conducted activity, I had learned a lot that I could apply
when the time comes that I will be in the field. Firstly, a need for a
teacher to consider the learners’ diversity is highly important in
choosing assessment methods, which are proper and appropriate for
measuring the students’ learning outcomes. If the assessment
methods are not appropriate, the students’ learning outcomes will
not be assessed properly and this would lead to the ineffectiveness of
the teaching-learning process.
Secondly, involving the learners in vicarious activities is helpful
to determine if there is a change in their behavior or the so-called
“learning”. In conducting activities, considering the level of the
learners, their diversity and the lesson discussed is essential. An activity
is effective if it is matched with the learning objectives of the lesson.
Knowing when to use conventional and authentic types of
assessment methods is helpful to assess what the students know and
do.

My Target
At the end of this activity, we will be adept in designing, using, and
interpreting results of objective tests.
My Way
Designing and using assessment tools sounds interesting, especially if
you know their curricular intentions. Take calculated strides in pursuing this
interesting task through these stages:
Step 6: Reflect on your experience.
Step 5: Analyze and interpret the data obtained from it focusing on
target competency.
Step 4: Conduct the pen and paper test in class.
Step 3: Make a Table of Specification and construct a pen-and-paper test items on the
subject observed.
Step 2: Study the teacher’s objectives of the lesson. Observe his/her class, focusing on the
evaluation part of the lesson.
Step 1: Visit a class on a subject area of your choice.

INTRODUCTION
Testing is a form of assessment where students are presented with
different specific problems for them to answer and as a result, they are
expected to gain specific score. Test is also considered as a procedure for
evaluation by means of determining the presence, quality, or truth of
something. A test may consist of series of questions, problems, or physical
responses designed to determine knowledge, intelligence, or ability. Thus,
it is considered as a reliable basis for evaluation or judgment that gives
teachers quantitative data.

My Analysis
1. Do you think the teacher’s learning objective was appropriately
assessed by your test items? Why? /Why not?
- Yes. Sir Mark guaranteed that all of his test questions are from the topics he
had discussed. The objectives are relative to the test items.
(FAILED TO GET SAMPLE)
2. Why did you have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to
developing an assessment tool?
- You have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to developing an
assessment tool in order for you to achieve the desired learning outcomes.

LOG ME
My Target
At the end of this activity, I will be well-informed on the principles of
authentic assessment and its usefulness in the classrooms.
My Way
Authentic assessment is an alternative way of assessing students’
learning. To be able to use it, you must first have deep understanding of it.
To help you hit your target, fly in good shape through these destinations:
Step 3: Write a reflective journal on this activity.
Step 2: Ask About the benefits and challenges the teachers experienced on the use of
authentic assessement.
Step 1: Interview two teachers on their experiences regarding the use of authentic assessment.

INTRODUCTION
I always say that the teaching profession is a complex and critical career.
Therefore, there are many things that a well-rounded teacher must know and do.
One way of learning new things is through indirect purposeful experiences.
This occurs when we learn from others’ experiences. In this episode, one teacher
was interviewed and he has shared his experiences as to the usage of authentic
assessment. This could help the future educators on how they will apply this type
of assessment. Through interviewing a teacher also, teacher education students
can learn many principles for the teaching-learning process to be effective.

Teacher Interviewed: Mr. Mark Lee G. Lumaban
With regards to assessment tools, Mr. Lumaban follows an accurate
and specific procedure. He also made mention that different assessment
tools require different procedure but the prime consideration is the
parallelism of the assessment objective to the assessment tool and
assessment objectives to the lesson objectives. “Strict implementation of
the assessment procedure facilitates in the fulfillment of the learning
objectives,” he said.
According to him, he started using Authentic Assessment when he
started teaching. He emphasized that scoring written assignments and
students’ projects using a holistic rubrics requires criteria that covers the skills
to be tested. He claimed that in holistic rubric, the teacher easily identify
the strengths and weaknesses of the learners especially in MAPEH and the
learners can easily determine their weaknesses for them to improve
compared to that of the traditional scoring of written assignments and
projects, the numerical score is the end which is not the ultimate end of
assessment.
“I make used of cooperative learning activities because the success
of the activity shows the individual functioning of the members and also the
group itself, which manifests the adherence of the values of unity,
cooperation and discipline,” Mr. Mark conveyed. She also cited some of
the activities he conducts to assess the student learning outcomes such as
group arts projects, experiential projects, dance performances, outcome-
based learning, extra credit or enrichment works etc.

For Analysis:
1. How did you feel about the teachers’ experiences in the use of
Authentic Assessment?
My curiosity about the Authentic Assessment was cleared when I
have heard the teacher’s experiences. I was at ease when I acquired
the things which he shared to me. I came to imagine myself applying
the same strategies in the classroom to assess our students’ learning
outcomes.
2. What do you think have been the gains enjoyed by the teacher from
using Authentic Assessment?
The teacher may have gain a lot but here are some of what I
know:
a. The teacher was able to determine the strengths and
weaknesses of the students easily.
b. The teacher didn’t have a lot of paper to check.
c. The teacher was satisfied seeing his students performing skills
which are the sole basis that there are changes in their
behavior.
d. The teacher discovered new strategies to emphasize the
Learner-Centered Approach.
Field Study 5 І Page 18

e. The teacher may find ways to help their students be active
and involved learners.
3. Which part of the teachers’ use of authentic assessment do you feel
like improving or revising?
There is none but if I were to add, I would conduct think-pair-share
activities, debates, panel discussion, reciting speeches, role-
playing/dramas, poem/song interpretation, etc. which are all
applicable in Language Teaching.

INSIGHTS LEARNED
In assessing what the students know and can do, there’s a need for a
teacher to involve the use of Authentic Assessment which is a helpful kind
of assessment to him as well as to the students. Engaging students or
learners to hands-on minds-on activities paves the way for them to relate
the things they are learning to their lives or to their experiences and this
leads to a lasting learning.
Using Authentic Assessment can help the teacher and the students in
many ways. One is being able to determine the strengths and weaknesses
of the students which will therefore be the way for the teacher to know the
next step she/he must take and that is whether to move to the next lesson
if she/he is satisfied or she/he needs to conduct more activities for better
understanding of the lesson if it is needed. In other words, the teacher can
easily monitor the students if there is a change in their behavior. Another is
the teacher can also address the multiple intelligences of the
students/learners so that in this way, no will be left out, hence, everyone will
feel that he/she is special.
If we tend to use Authentic Assessment, deleting the Traditional
Assessment is a not a favorable action since we need the students to think
and master the knowledge before they could perform it or put it into
action.

My Reflection
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings about the importance in
the use of appropriate assessment methods in the classroom, including what
students and teachers can gain from appropriate assessment tools. Share your
reflection with your FS teacher and classmates.
Assessment is a key component of learning because it helps the students
learn. When students are able to see how they are doing in the class, they are
able to determine whether or not they understand course material. Assessment
can also help motivate students. Just as assessment helps students, assessment
helps teachers.
As a teacher, you must be fair in assessing your students’ capability since
every learner possesses a different intelligence and learning styles. Various
methods should be implemented so that each of your learners expresses what is
in their mind. Some students are good in written but then they cannot press their
self orally vice versa.so as a teacher, you must consider the weakness and
strengths of your learner so that everybody has the opportunity to reveal their
potentials or express their thoughts.

In 9 weeks of observing, after my observation, I am self- assured and avid that I

believe to set the tone of the classroom and let them know that you are in
control. The medium or atmosphere of the classroom needs to be accepting
and eager to learn. All of the class I observed had a great classroom
atmosphere, I mean that most of the students were attentive to the teacher,
eager to learn, asking questions and that no one person in the class was omitted

INSIGHTS LEARNED
I have so many questions about the different of assessment in the
teaching – learning process. In my assessment of student I subject. I defined
authentic assessment. Right then, I knew its meaning and that is, it is
performance based, it’s real or original and it refers to hands-on activities. This is
all I knew. I do not know when or how to use it in real classroom setting. Do I
need to use it in all subjects.in all activities. How about the traditional
assessment? Can I just delete it in my way of teaching? These questions bumped
in my mind until one day I seem to have sought the answers.
On October 9, I interviewed one of the MAPEH teachers in Cagayan
National High School namely: Mark Lee G. Lumaban an excellent and versatile
MAPEH teacher. I asked him of his experiences with regards to the use of
authentic assessment. Luckily, he had shared a lot to me, the activities how are
they conducted, how to grade group activities and how to use the said
assessment type. He also cited some of the benefits the teachers and the
students can gain from this type of assessment. Moreover, he expanded my
thoughts on some of the important things a teacher needs to consider in the
