ABSTRACT
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer data
from an electronic tag, called RFID tag or label, attached to an object, through a reader for the
purpose of identifying and tracking the object. RFID technology is a matured technology that
has been widely deployed by various organizations as a part of their automation systems. In
this project, an RFID based system will be built in order to produce an attendance
management system. Automated attendance management software will not only make the
entire process simple, but will also provide a well-structured and analyzed report of the pattern
of employee’s attendance and time management, which can further help in allocating and
using the human resources in an organization to the maximum possible benefit. This system
consists of two main parts which include: the hardware and the software. The hardware
consists of a motor unit and RFID reader. The RFID reader, which is a low-frequency reader
(125 kHz), is connected to the host computer via a serial to USB converter cable. The Time-
Attendance System GUI is developed using Visual Basic.Net. The Attendance Management
System will provide the functionalities of the overall system such as displaying live ID tags
transactions, registering ID, deleting ID, recording attendance and other minor functions. This
interface was installed in the host computer.
INTRODUCTION
The existing conventional attendance system requires employees to manually sign the
attendance sheet every time they enter the campus. As common as it seems, such system
lacks automation, where a number of problems may arise. This includes the time
unnecessarily consumed by the employees to find and sign their name on the attendance
sheet; some employees may also forget to sign in at the attendance sheet . Also the
attendance sheet may get misplaced. Having a system that can automatically capture
employee's attendance by flashing their employee card at the RFID reader can really save all
the mentioned troubles. This is the main motive of our system. Looking at a bigger picture,
deploying the system will benefit the time management as employee’s attendance to work is
one of the key factors in improving the quality of teaching and work.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The specific objectives of the project include:
• Reviewing the existing / current attendance monitoring of the employees.
• Coming up with an automated attendance monitoring system for the employees of the
school.
• Implementing an attendance monitoring system for the employees of the school.
• Validating the system to ensure that only legible employees are allowed to log-in to the
system.
METHODOLOGY OF IMPLEMENTATION

- It is the super user of the system.
- Manage the data entry and database registration of the employees.
Employees
- It is the sub-users of the system.
Hardware Design
The hardware component of the system is composed of the following: RFID reader module;
Communications Port; Computer Unit and Power Supply. The RFID module will be connected
to an antenna to receive the information coming from a tag. Communication Port will be the
one receiving the data coming from the RFID module and transferred it to the computer. The
power supply provides the power source on both the RFID module and Communications Port.

System Design
Attendance System. In the attendance system, the system will only require a short range
reader and it must be connected to a computer which has a database for the daily time record
for each employee. Every time an employee logs in to the system the monitor at the entrance
of the campus will display the time and the employee information.
Database Development
The program that will be used is Visual Basic.Net. The database program that will be used is
Microsoft Access, it will show all the data regarding the daily time record for attendance
monitoring.
Operational Procedure
The principle of operation of the attendance and employee monitoring system is shown
through the use of a flow chart shown. (Figure 2)
