I. Overall Interpretation of the Literary Work


This literary work written by R. Zamora Linmark is all about the brutality to a Bakla during the Marcos Regime. In that time, Bakla were being chased. One
day, Vanessa’s body was found hanging on the Balete tree with a lot of bruises on her body, especially on her penis. Vanessa, as part of the LGBTQ
community, it means that they have no right in the community, they arebeing discriminated. Lala witnessed how Vanessa was hanged on the tree that
serves as a precaution or warning, as she tries to avoid having the same fate as Vanessa.
