Many people consider health insurance for the first time when
they are starting a family and VIVAS Health offers the most com-
prehensive maternity cover on the market, offering members
unique benefits of post natal home help and the services of Doula
Ireland. VIVAS Health’s unique Post Natal Home Help benefit is
designed to allow parents spend more time with their new baby as
a home help assistant will come to your home for 3 days and take
care of all household chores. This benefit is a real winner with
VIVAS Health families as the Mums (and Dads!) who have used
the service have confirmed that they are delighted with it.
Micheal Murphy of Murphy Insurances stated "VIVAS Health is
committed to offering customers more with comprehensive hospi-
tal cover as well as a host of innovative lifestyle benefits which
allow members to use their health insurance when they are not
sick and get something back for their money."
Micheal also highlighted how easy the switching process; "Over
88% of VIVAS Health customers rated the switching process as
very easy. People switch to VIVAS Health because they are avail-
ing of a better package for less money. There is no need to wait
until your renewal date to switch, There is no break in cover or re-
serving of waiting periods."
As with other insurance products, people shop around, so if your
health insurance is up for renewal, it is certainly worthwhile get-
ting a quote and see how much you could be saving while avail-
ing of a better product"

Or on the night regional public institutions for support, while Cork County
Council and several school principals have already agreed to back
the idea. Mr. Buitleir says the proposal complies with the vision of
the Cork County Development Board (CDB) in its Integrated
Strategy for the county’s Economic, Social & Cultural
Development’.
Bru na Si,Craobh Eochaille’s own base and education centre, is a
thriving tourism and cultural facility and Mr. De Buitleir contends
that, as a community-based, voluntary organisation, it is ideally
placed to initiate the plan. He reflects that it already provides
music tuition at eight local national schools as well as running
adult courses.
Yet while Bru na Si delivers an intense programme of specialist
instrument training, the chairman says it still needs "increased
managerial capability and skills delivery. The proposed Local
ITMES would function as Bru na Si’s second stage development
and meet this requirement.
The three-year local pilot project would subsequently assist in set-
ting up the countywide ITMES, which would run under the aus-
pices of the CDB and be linked to Cork County Council’s Director
of Community and Enterprise", says Micheal.

Further explaining his strategy, Micheal says, "It is prudent to first
call on partners that have already supported us, such as councils,
ECAD, Comhaltas Meitheal, schools and corporate sponsors.
Other bodies, like the VEC and UCC, could be invited to con-
tribute thereafter". He adds, "An integrated approach would give
value for money and recognise a local, organically driven resource
that has blossomed through huge voluntary effort and public fund-
ing"
The support of Youghal Town Council and other local bodies is
considered crucial to kick-start the initiative while Micheal con-

Annual Summer Camp
The annual summer camp was held in the club grounds last week
with over 120 kids’ boys and girls involved. Ages ranged from 7-
14 years of age and again this year it was a great success. The only
aspect of course to dampen things was the weather. One day had
to be cancelled due to the persistent rain, which is the first time in
the five years of the camps that a day had to be cancelled. I would
like to thank Billy Cotter who co-ordinated the camp with the FAI
and Sally O’Sullivan who helped out throughout the week. Also
the coaches, for their time and enthusiasm during the week.
Volunteers Required
The club at the moment are having difficulty in getting people
involved in helping out with the younger kids aged 7-10. For par-
ents or people willing to help, it is very enjoyable coaching these
kids. At the moment there are too many kids for the amount of
coaches involved with these age groups. But the simple fact is that
two people cannot train fifty or sixty kids. We need people to get Participants in the Youghal United Soccer Camp
involved. The club are now actively asking people to help out for
just one hour a week. This hour can be organised to suit the peo- CLAYCASTLE PITCH & PUTT

TUESDAY AND FRIDAY

The cast of Dancing Thru the Ages demonstrates how success can
reach anyone, no matter where they are from, and they are an
inspiration to all those wishing to emulate what they do.
Dancing Thru the Ages accomplishes what few others have tried:
to fuse the ancestral legacy of Irish culture and tradition with an
exciting contemporary one, without losing the spirit and exuber-
ance so associated with the Irish style of music and dance. The
interaction between band members and dancers during the per-
formance is very special as it is a genuine display of enjoyment
and fun and it mirrors the relationships forged many years ago
through music, song and dance. That sense of togetherness and
community is an integral part of traditional Irish culture and is an

International Quilt Competition
For the past four years, as part of the Youghal Celebrates History
end of summer festival, an International Quilt Competition has
been held in St. Mary’s Collegiate Church.
Since its inception, the competition has gone from strength to
strength, growing each year in terms of the number of entrants and
in the quality of their entries. It has thus become one of the
region’s most important showcases for the craft.
Last year’s competition was won by the Ungemach sisters from

the young.
The Youghal Community Drugs Initiative will work in association

with Foroige and the Youghal Youth Committee. The initiative is
part of the developing response to drug and alcohol abuse being
tackled by the Southern Regional Drugs Task-force, which has set
up sixteen committees so far. Gordon believes that his portfolio
will only grow larger as the initiative embeds itself in the commu-
nity. His immediate concerns are directed to making initial con-
tacts. "Every town and village in Ireland has experience of drugs
and alcohol abuse. Kids are taking drugs at a younger age and with
the Celtic Tiger they have more money to spend. I have sent let-
ters to all the clubs, to the doctors and pharmacists, I will meet
with the school and talk to publicans and I have contacted some
businesses. All of this is down the line at the moment and my
immediate goal is to make contact with users and those who are
under the radar," he said. Gordon has over a decade of experience
working in youth and community development work, several
years of which he spent at Pathways, Cork.
After working closely with kids who are homeless at one time or David Verling, Chairman Imokilly Muintir Na Tire presents the cheque to members
another and passing through the system of residential care one of COPE with Youghal Mayor Mr. David Savage
senses his relief of finally getting his teeth into the sort of prob-
lems that bring these kids into that world. "I have twelve years
experience with 14-18 year olds with issues of homelessness but I
have a passion for this job." he said.
Asked how he envisages getting close to the kids he explained.
"Before we even get to the issues of drug and alcohol use I will be
listening and befriending and then exploring their drug use. You
have to meet them at their level, see them through their hearts and
minds. I will go with what I’m presented, work with them to make
their lives manageable. If it gets to the stage where they contem-
plate change we will look at how to get into treatment."
A permanent office is not yet secured but Gordon is looking to the
immediate future and that means clients. "I will be doing a lot of David Verling, Chairman Imokilly Muintir Na Tire presents the cheque to Mary

vention is very, very important.
A lot of users get caught in the system and it becomes a revolving
door, when that happens it’s often too late. We will be dealing with
users and high risk users between the ages of 14 - 23 years.
Making contact with them in a small community like Youghal has
a great knock on effect.
As the initiative grows we will also look to reintegrate users back
into the community. These are people who have been through the
system, who might be in danger of relapse and in that way our role
is two-fold." He knows Youghal well having lived in the town for
nine years. Home grown judgments will not be made. "Focus on
the solution, not the problem," he said.
The challenge is broad and it is deep. His vision remains uncloud-
ed about drug and alcohol abuse in the town, an open case book is Youghal Mayor Mr. David Savage; Mary Troy, Matron Midleton Hospital; David

friends and families to the region, where the waters fished includ-

Ballybrannigan Strand (near Whitegate) and Monkstown Wall.
The hub of activity was the fully-booked Walter Raleigh hotel,
where Kieran Kidney, a former Irish International angler, Marine
correspondent with Youghal local radio and PRO of the Youghal
Bass Club found "unanimous praise from all quarters from both a
fishing and tourism perspective. The scenery and the friendliness
of the people in the area was very much remarked upon," he adds.
Each of the competing countries -Ireland, England, Scotland and
Wales- sent out a five-member team to compete in the Senior event

Under the auspices of the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers (IFSE),
the Irish Senior team comprises four provincial champions plus
