permanent tsb bank said: "The reduction in average national house
prices in April has been reflected in all market sectors with the
exception of Dublin and new houses, which have shown little or
no growth. So far this year prices in Dublin's commuter counties
have experienced the greatest rate of reduction, while Dublin
prices have remained relatively stable. Prices nationally have
returned to levels seen in August last year. Clearly the uncertainty
around Stamp Duty was still a factor in April and together with
recent and likely future ECB rate rises both are impacting on
demand for houses."

Mr. John Kennedy R.I.P.

It was with the deepest regret that we learned of the recent unex-
pected death of Mr. John Kennedy. John was one of the oldest and
most valued members of the Society dating back to the old days in
Procession arriving at Emmet Place Procession arriving at Emmet Place the Mall House. His presence was always welcome whenever he
from DeValera St. from DeValera St. called into the Hall. Although snooker and billiards are the pre-
dominant games of the Society, John re-introduced the game of
Chess and other board games to broaden the activities of the
Society especially for the junior members. John was a chess cham-
pion and liked nothing more than playing the game or teaching the
members how to play. John was generous, talented, gifted, intelli-
gent and a deeply religious man. John came from a highly respect-
ed family and the Catholic Young Men's Society was privileged to
have him as a member. The committee and members were hon-
oured to act as pallbearers and form a guard of honour at his funer-
al. As a mark of respect the Society remained closed for two days.
This showed the genuine esteem and affection we all had for John.

NEW LIBRARY AT RIVERGATE YOUGHAL GOLF CLUB

MALL NOW OPEN CAPTAIN'S PRIZE TO THE LADIES
By Cllr.Barbara Murray
Cllr. Barbara Murray is absolutely delighted and proud of our new
library facility that opened on Tuesday June 5th at The Rivergate
Mall. Our new state of the art library facility has a staff of three at
present, which is made up of two part-time assistants and one full-
time. Marion O'Halloran is our librarian and her assistants are Ikki
Keane and Carmel Murphy, one more fulltime member will be
added to the team in the near future. Library hours will also be
extended, at present we are extended to include lunchtime open-
ing.
The library is situated on the ground floor and has a floor space of
2,000sq. ft. with storage, canteen and staff toilets on upper floor.
The new facility is bright and spacious, with every reader being
catered for. The daily papers are available and the huge selection
books is being added to daily. The childrens area is colourful and
bright, with child friendly furnishings throughout. Internet access Mary O'Regan Winner of the Captain's Prize to the Ladie's 2007 accepts her

DVDs are available for use, which should be of great benefit to all
of our non-nationals that are trying to improve English speaking
skills.
I would hope that all of our library users are as impressed with this
new facility as I am. On the first day, a number of people have
called in and taken up membership, which is only €2.50, this is a
fantastic facility and great value.
I would like to reassure the people of Youghal that a new
4,000sq.ft facility is still on the cards and will not be forgotten. At
present there is €5m allocated in the capital expenditure programm
for 2007-2009 for a library for Youghal. This will be totally
dependent on Library council of Ireland allocating funding for the
Youghal project, so for the moment we can enjoy this facility for
as long as it is needed and look forward to eventually having our

Indictment of Cork County Council
SINN Féin Councillor Martin Hallinan described the state of the
road leading to the Youghal Amenity Site as a disgrace to any
Council and is similar to what we see in impoverished countries Don Mulcahy, Tommy Collins, Joan Collins, Carmel Dempsey and Maurice Power pictured
across the world. Councillor Hallinan said: "Two months ago I put with the Youghal Juvenile Badminton Club prizewinners after the awards ceremony.
it to Cork County Council that the road to the amenity site in
Youghal needs urgent upgrading and should never have been left
deteriorate to this state. This road caters not just for the amenity
site but also services an NCT Centre, a car showroom and the
sludge drying facility. It is also the route to a previously popular
walk around the slob bank". "Objectors to the sludge facility were
assured that a proper road would be put in before it opened. The
facility is already up to half its production capacity and lines of
trucks are thundering down this track which is no more than eight
foot wide in places". "In response the Council Engineer assured
me that he would ensure that the road was properly surfaced and
a footpath put down beside it. Furthermore he agreed that his
work would have to be done this summer. I welcomed this
response but pointed out that the road was presently dangerous, so
he agreed that these holes would need to be filled in immediately Pupils from Tir na nOg playschool at Bru na Si, Youghal, preparing for their sports

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
The draw for the 2007 Credit Union Scholarship took place in
Youghal Credit Union on Thursday 17th May.
The winner this year is Jessica Power. This is the seventh year
of the Scholarship scheme. Previous winners were: 2001 Edel
Power, 2002 Alan Loughlin, 2003 Seamus O’Keeffe, 2004 Paddy
Ahern, 2005 Rion Barry, 2006 William Kelly.
The scholarship is valued at €1300 per year for four years while
the student is completing a course in a Third Level College.
The entry this year was disappointing. We would urge students
and parents to avail of the opportunity to win this valuable schol-
arship which can help to subsidise an expensive period of a stu-
dent’s life.
Entry forms are distributed in Pobalscoil na Trionóide early in
the school year. They are also available at the office of Youghal Cllr. Sammy Revins, Mayor of Youghal, pictured at Front Strand with one of
