Political Stand

This Pandemic has been an eye-opener for a lot of people, including myself. Seeing how the government
responded to the pandemic and other existing issues that have been going on for years in our country
made me realize a lot of things. It made me realize that we really need to carefully evaluate all those
that are applying for the position in the government, especially in the higher-up positions. Our future is
in their hands. In this 2022 election, we have to carefully choose who will be our next leader. We have to
carefully evaluate each presidentiables.

Starting from Sen. Manny Pacquiao, despite the evident lack of knowledge in running a whole country,
Sen. Pacquiao’s courage and bravery to keep up with other presidentiables is still commendable. You
can tell that he’s sincere although I think that it is important for him to know and to realize that he
needs to separate the church and the state. Next for Mayor Isko, from a personal perspective, I think
that he’s becoming similar to President Duterte. His answers during interviews make sense and you can
see that he knows what he is doing and saying. He did a great job leading Manila, however, I still think
that presidency for him is too early, if he decided to run as a Vice President, I think I might consider him.
For Sen. Lacson, He is actually one of my top choices. Being in the government for a long time really
helped him a lot. He’s very knowledgeable thanks to all his experience. His credentials are also decent.
He uses critical thinking, he knows how to make decisions, he has ideas on how to solve problems but he
lacks compassion for the citizens. There are also several issues and cases about him which makes me
quite skeptical about him. Now, for the two of the most talked-about presidentiable but I’m going to
start with Former Sen. BongBong Marcos first. Removing all the political colors that are attached to all
the candidates and by just looking at the credentials of each of these presidentiables, I personally think
that Mr. BongBong Marcos is not suited to become the next president of the Philippines. To give the
benefit of the doubt, he has done something but to put it in a more “gen z” way of representation, he
has more red flags than green flags. He had and still has a lot of cases that he still can’t clear up to this
date. He and his family are banned from some countries, how is he going to represent the Philippines in
that state? Lastly is Vice President Leni Robredo, personally, she is my choice. She has always been
transparent even before the election talks started. I love how every time she answers questions about
her plans or about the current issues that our country has now, she backs her answers with proof.
Through that we can already see that she is capable of actually doing what she is saying. She has been
serving the public even before she became a politician. The people had already seen her work with or
without receipt. Although, I'm not going to lie that some of VP Robredo’s answers about certain issues
are quite questionable but the good thing is, she is willing to listen to the people.

I hope that we, as citizens of this country, will take this election seriously. I hope that we will pick
someone with the ability to lead and the integrity to carry this country forward. This is not about
political color. This is about who is the most credible to lead our country. I think it is also important to
keep in mind that we should never idolize politicians. Even if we support someone, we should still know
where to stand when he or she proposes a questionable platform on how he or she will lead the country
and his or her plans for the country. It is okay to criticize as long as you know that your criticism will
benefit the country.
