 There are between 28 and 31 days in every month. to be able to write dates in
English you must learn the ordinal numbers 1 to 31.

5th fifth 25th twenty-fifth
6th sixth 26th twenty-sixth
7th seventh 27th twenty-seventh

How to write the year


2012 =  Two thousand and twelve
2011 =  Two thousand and eleven
2010 =  Two thousand and ten
2009 =  Two thousand and nine
2000 = The year two thousand
1972 = Nineteen seventy-two

How to write the date


To write the date you write the day first,  month and then the year.

How to say the date


To say the date you must use the word 'the' definite article before the day and
the preposition of   before the month.

19th October 2012 = The nineteenth of October Two thousand and twelve


4th August 1972 = The 4th of August nineteen seventy two

Using prepositions with dates


Use on to give an exact date
I was born on 6th of September
I am going to a party on the 12th of October

Use in when you want to use a month or year without


an exact day
I was Born in March
I was born in 1975

Years
1066: ten sixty six
1917: nineteen seventeen
1901: nineteen hundred and one or nineteen hundred (oh) one
Years ending in 00 are said “hundred”
1900: nineteen hundred
1700: seventeen hundred
1400: fourteen hundred
But: 2000: two thousand
