Reflection 1

In the first week of teaching at Ajman Academy school, the teacher got to know the 28 students in her KG1 class, the school schedule and rules, and the curriculum. She found it difficult to get feedback and lesson plans from her mentor teacher, who often forgot things. Dividing students into groups of four helped with smoother classroom transitions. The teacher also did peer observations and learned a new phonics activity to try. While the mentor teacher wasn't always helpful, the teacher was adjusting to the new environment.

First week reflection

On the first day in school, I get to know the school schedule and rules, and I introduce

myself to my students. The school I choose to teach this year is Ajman academy school, and I’m

a teacher kg 1 with Ms. Sarah jean. I have 28 students, and there are no special needs in my

class, but there is some low achievement student especially there is one boy don’t understand

English, and I have to translate for him some words in Arabic. Also, there is a girl who is so

smart, but she can’t sit in her place and always like to move. The unique thing about this girl is

that it can be a teacher. She always tells the students to sit or listen to the teacher.

In the first week, I get to know the curriculum they use in the school, and I asked the

teacher for the curriculum and the weekly plans she uses for every day’s lessons. It wasn’t easy

to take the information’s from my MST because she always forgets when I ask her to send me

the documents to my email or gave me my feedback for my lessons.

The transition in the classroom was messy, but at the time, I asked my MST to divide the

students into groups of four students in each group. In the beginning, she refused, but then she

starts to use the strategy in the classroom, and it starts to be more professional transition. I find it

easier for me when I ask them to move from circle time into the activities area.

My relationship with the students starts to improve at the end of the first week, and they

get used to me in the classroom teaching them, and they were happy to have a new teacher.

Moreover, In the first week, I did a peer observation for my friend, and I observe her

teacher. I learn from Amna new activity I can use for the phonic lesson, so at my next lesson, I

can use the same activity and see the difference between my technique and her technique in

doing the activity for the students.

On my first day, I was thinking that I choose the wrong choice by going to private school

because sometimes my MST not helpful, but at the time, I get to use the environment in the

school, and I will try to develop my relationship with my MST.
