Short essay about Romeo and Juliet h
This story was written by William Shakespeare. This particular movie is called
Romeo + Juliet. This is a 1996 American romantic crime tragedy. It is an adaptation
and modernization of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The film
stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the title roles. They instantly fall in love
when Romeo crashes a party and meets Juliet, despite their being members of
feuding families. Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo, Pete Postlethwaite, Paul Sorvino
and Diane Venora also star in supporting roles. This film was directed by Baz
Luhrmann.
I liked this movie much more than Macbeth. It’s
more colorful and the words they use are easier to
understand, as well as the way of speaking.
The film begins with a scene in which some
Montague men and the Capulets face off. But this
movie is very different from the others. Here they
face each other in cars, not horses. They use
weapons, not swords or spears. It is the modern
world, but the story was adapted so that current
generations become familiar with this play.
So in the first scene we can see Tybalt facing off
with his rivals at a gas station. The entire city knows
about the fighting, and they even send helicopters
with police to stop the fight.

Juliet's father gives her hand in marriage to Paris, a wealthy businessman and from
Verona. He accepts immediately, but Juliet does not like the idea.
Later in the film, Romeo learns that the Capulets will be having a party that same
night. At first he decides not to go, but Mercutio gives him a drug pill (they don't
mention the name) so he can cheer up and go with them to the party.
While there, Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, notices Romeo and wishes to kill him then and
there. But Julieta's father, Montesco, tells him not to make a show in front of his
guests. Tybalt decides not to.
At the party, Mercutio is dressed as a woman, and he sings like one too. After that,
Romeo approaches to admire some fish in the aquarium, but on the other side of the
aquarium is Juliet, and it is love at first sight between the two.
They flirt for a while, but then Paris wants to dance with her, so she leaves. But
Romeo and Juliet do not stop exchanging glances during her dance with Paris. And
she manages to get out of the arms of Paris to get into an elevator with Romeo,
where they share their first kiss.
Afterwards, they must separate, Juliet´s mother and Paris are looking for her. Until
now, neither of them knew that they were children of their sworn enemy. When they
find out, they are both devastated.
At the end of the party, Romeo decides not to leave with his friends, instead, he goes
to Juliet's balcony, where both of them promise eternal love and vow to renounce
their names in order to be together. Juliet tells Romeo that the next day, at nine
o'clock, she is going to send a messenger to confirm if he wants to marry her.
The next day, he tells the messenger that Juliet must confess with Fray Laurence,
and then they will marry that same day in church. And so they did, Juliet confessed
and they were married instantly, Romeo's father officiated the wedding.
In the afternoon, Romeo heads to the beach, where he meets his friends, including
Mercutio. But a car full of Capulet men arrives, and Tybalt starts a fight. He calls
Romeo a villain, and challenges him to take out his gun and kill him. Romeo rejects
him, causing Tybalt to become even more furious. Tybalt begins to fight with
Mercutio, and assassinates him.
Angry, Romeo chases the Capulets' car with his own. Until they reach a fountain,
where Tybalt gets out of the car and threatens to kill Romeo. Blinded by fury, Romeo
shoots Tybalt twice, who falls into the fountain.
Romeo flees in the car, and locks himself in his house. The police arrive at the scene
and the sheriff decides to exile Romeo.
Upon learning of the news, he decides to go to Juliet's house to spend one night with
her. There they have sexual intercourse. The next morning, Juliet's father tells Paris
that he will marry her on Thursday and orders Juliet's mother to break the news to
her. Romeo runs away from her balcony, and Julieta gets the news. She is not
happy. But her father slaps her and her mother too.
Before the wedding, Juliet and Romeo's father create a plan. And he promises that
he will send an urgent letter to Romeo with all the details in it.
Romeo's father gives Juliet a bottle of fake poison. This will cause her body to freeze,
her heart will beat very slightly, and her skin will turn pale, making her body look
dead. He tells her to drink it the night before the wedding so that they think she is
dead. Inside the church, she will wake up alone and Romeo will go for her so they
can escape together without anyone noticing. They will fake her death. The thing is,
Romeo never read the letter because the wind blew it away.
On Juliet's wedding day, she wakes up "dead" and her parents organize her funeral
right away. A friend of Romeo's sees Juliet's corpse in church and immediately runs
to give Romeo the news.
Romeo, devastated, runs like never before to Verona, to be able to meet his last love
for the last time. When he gets there, he buys the most powerful poison money can
buy, and then heads to church. There, police officers with weapons and helicopters
await him for his capture, since he broke the law.
After a hostage-taking and a shooting, Romeo manages to enter the church where
Juliet lies on an altar surrounded by candles and flowers. He leaves his gun next to
Juliet so he can touch her hair. He cries over her corpse, he hugs her and kisses
her. Just when he drinks the poison, Juliet opens her eyes and the two of them start
crying with sadness. She tries to kiss him, in case there is any trace of poison on
Romeo's lips, but it is not. Romeo dies in Juliet's arms.
Juliet realizes there´s no poison in Romeo´s lips.
She cries right as she´s about to kill herself.
Juliet, heartbroken, cries while hugging Romeo's corpse. After a few minutes, she
sees the gun that he left on the altar. With trembling hands, she takes it and commits
suicide with a shot to the head. The final scene of the two of them is surrounded by
beautiful candles and colorful flowers. Both bloody but together at last.
Romeo and Juliet lay dead at the altar.
The next morning, the two bodies are taken to the morgue while their families mourn
them. No one can believe they were secretly having a relationship. And both sides
realize the damage hatred does to people's hearts, but it was too late to avoid so
much suffering and death.
