Diversity refers to differences between people in areas such as race, gender, religion, etc. It is important in schools and organizations for several reasons. First, diversity allows students and employees exposure to different ideas and experiences which can improve their skills. Second, understanding diversity fosters tolerance and cooperation which leads to productivity. Third, diversity encourages innovation and problem solving as different perspectives are brought together. Loden's model of diversity identifies core dimensions like race and gender that are inherent, and secondary dimensions like beliefs that can change. Ability and disability are also considered dimensions of diversity as they reflect individual uniqueness. A lack of acceptance of diversity in an organization can lead to conflicts and even violence between employees with differing cultures and beliefs.

1. What is the definition of diversity?

The Collins dictionary defines diversity as “the state or quality of being different or
varied; a variety or assortment; a point of difference; the inclusion of people of different races,
genders, religions, etc. in a group; the relation that holds between two entities when and only
when they are not identical; the property of being numerically distinct. Others also defined

The two dimensions are the primary or core dimensions that are in the inner circle
and the secondary dimensions that are in the outer circle. The primary or core dimensions that
are in the inner circle, these are the stronger ones. These are the characteristics we were born
with or established by significant experiences we had or people we interacted with. On the other
hand, the secondary dimensions that are in the outer circle are also part of our social identity,
but they can change or be discarded as our life experiences impact us. They are influenced by
people we encounter, places, we go to or live in, and experiences we go through. This model
can be used to through encouraging people to talk and discuss with each other and generate
new points of view among each one in the group.

4. Why ability and disability are considered another dimension of diversity?
