UNIT- 1 SITE SELECTION FOR FOOTWEAR MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY (Periods=8)


Site selection criterion, factors influencing site selection such as availability of power,
transport, market, labour, raw materials.
UNIT – 2 FOOTWEAR MACHINERY (Periods=8)
Footwear and leather goods machinery - General construction and their working. Pattern
making machine, hand press. Upper and bottom clicking press (Hydraulic/ pneumatic). Belt
cutting machine, upper and bottom splitting machine, skiving machine, folding machine,
industrial sewing machine (flat bed, cylinder bed, post bed, heavy duty, zigzag).
Punching and eyeleting machine, fore part lasting machine, side lasting and seat lasting
machines.
UNIT -3 FOOTWEAR MACHINERY AND THEIR SELECTION (Periods=8)
General construction and their working of upper roughing machine, bottom roughing
machine, cementing press, pounding machine, sole screwing machine, sole and heel
trimming machine, combined finishing machine, spray machine with compressor.
Heel attaching machine, double operating press, double stitching machine, Toe and side
lasting machine, sole press machine (Hydraulic/ pneumatic). Heat setter and chiller.
Selection of machinery of different capacities of production, conveyor system of working in
upper making and assembly.
UNIT – 4 FOOTWEAR PLANT MAINTENANCE (Periods=8)
Its Functions, maintenance procedures such as preventive maintenance, routine
maintenance, breakdown maintenance.
Lubrication and oiling procedure, development of lubrication chart.
Estimating the repair and maintenance cost.
UNIT – 5 SAFETY MEASURES (Periods=8)
Safety measures in the footwear industry, causes of accident, accident prevention rules.
