For a trainee to achieve the qualification of a trainer/assessor in trainers methodology I, he/she

should accumulate TM Certificates of Competency (COC) in two competencies:
 Deliver training session
 Conduct competency assessment

Now, let us try this! It is your turn to be a trainer/assessor.

Come up with a video presentation simulating a training session focusing on your field of
specialization.

Your role is the trainer/assessor and your trainees are the ones to be trained for NC II aligned to
your field of specialization.

To those who have already NC II in their field of specialization, I am sure that you are already
aware of all included in the Competency Based Learning Materials (CBLM), the modules, the
self-guide check, the self-check, answer key, performance criteria sheet and other materials
needed to acquire certificate of achievement in your area of competency. Please orient or help
others who do not have the certificate of achievement in their qualification yet. Please extend
your help to them. As regard actual orientation to all these forms and sheets and module, we try
to have this part next semester or we request for a trip to TESDA region 2.

I will be providing you guide on how to go about delivery of training session and conduct
competency assessment based on English as a Second Language (ESL) TM I training. Please
change the wordings or statements relevant to your field of specialization.

Final Lecture in The Andragogy of Learning 3

Your video presentation is a simulated one. I will see in your video presentation that you are the
trainer/assessor and have your friends or family members or loved ones available to be your
trainees, just have two individuals as trainees.

Make your video presentation short only so you can upload it to messenger to your class chair
and the class chair will be the one to submit to me all your output that includes written output
and the video presentation and your self-assessment guide output.

Based on your video presentation, rate yourself under deliver training session and conduct
competency assessment. The self-assessment guide is provided for you below. Just copy the
statements that you are giving “Yes” as an answer. But if you can print a hard copy and just a
take a picture of your output to send me, the better and easier for me to check.

You self-assessed performance will evaluate your performance as TM I qualified. Just be honest
with how you evaluate yourself. Tick off only the statements you are confident that you have
achieved. Remember, The Andragogy of learning including Principles of Trainers Methodology
course, if you are done with this, you are now ready to be a trainer/assessor.

Here is an example of a trainer/assessor dialogue in delivering a training session and conducting

a competency assessment in ESL TM I. I transcribed it for you straight from the video
presentation of Ms. Ma. Jessica B. Ayuban.

Please change the dialogue provided here so it may fit your field of specialization. In the
simulation of answering modules, pretend that the module you are handing over the trainees are
concepts about unit of competency under your field of specialization. After answering the
module, proceed to demonstration covering the just answered module. This is now the written
exam, so, pretend that what you are giving the trainees are concepts from the module. In the oral
questioning, you can construct question relevant to what is being demonstrated.

Everything will be lines you are to say while accomplishing the competency. Just let your
trainees answer you with just nodding of head to shorten your video presentation. Make your
video presentation in the delivery of training session 5 to 10 minutes and make you video
presentation in the conduct of competency assessment 3 to 5 minutes.

The first TM Certificate of Competency (COC) for you is “Deliver Training Session”.

First things you do before facing the trainees:

 Check the board if you have written these:

I have here data gathering tool for trainee’s characteristics. This will help me determine your
background, experiences, and knowledge so that your training will be personalized according to
your needs.

Get your copy. I will give you 25 minutes (but not this long, make it quick, say time is up right
away once the trainee pretended to have answered already) to answer.

Time is up. Please pass.

Thank you.

I also have here the Self-Assessment Checklist. This will help me determine your current
competencies that is relevant with this qualification. I will give you 30 (but not this long, make it

According to the questionnaire that I have here, Ms. B has a relevant experience with (state here
the competency or your field of specialization). The rest, don’t worry, that is why we have this
training so you can have experience too.

Now let us start our orientation for Competency Based Training in (state here the field of
specialization, eg. Cookery, electronics, etc.) As you say the line, now let us start, flash your first
slide containing “COMPETENCY BASED TARING IN COOKERY”

Succeeding slides will be having these contents and proceed to your discussion:

The topics are divided into seven parts:

1. The definition of CBT
2. The Principles of CBT
3. Analysis between traditional education and CBT
4. Roles of trainer
5. Roles of trainee
6. Qualification overview
7. Competency Based Learning Materials (CBLM)

In the slides in discussing the qualification overview, have the following to discuss:

 Discuss cookery and important concept necessary to learn or knowledge needed to

acquire about cookery. What is expected of you after accomplishing this
qualification (who you will be, how can you be of help in industry or institution)
 Discuss the basic, common (if applicable) and core competencies
 Discuss what is CBLM, parts of CBLM, CBLM Instruction Sheets (to include,
information sheet, self-check, answer key, task sheet, operation sheet, job sheet,
performance checklist-remember, just flash all these CBLM Instruction Sheets in
you slide, no need to do deep or to discuss each)
 Discuss Methodologies (to flash only, to include lecture/discussion and other
methodology you know fitting in your training session)
 Discuss Monitoring Tools (again flash only, to include progress chart and
achievement chart (you should have these two charts on the board, including
Training Activity Matrix) Discuss here the difference between achievement chart
and progress chart. Progress chart is for trainee to achieve a certain unit of
competency while an Achievement chart is for trainee to achieve a certain learning
activity.
 Discuss Evaluation Tools (flash only, to include written test, direct observation, pre-
test, post-test, performance test, oral questioning)

video presentation. Whatever term is applicable or utilized to your training workshop of your
qualificiation, use this in your signage)

First, this area is our contextual learning laboratory. This is where your underpinning knowledge
in cookery is learned or provided for you.

And this is the resource area, where the trainer makes your learning materials for the training.

This is the institutional assessment area, where the assessment is done; also, this is where
recognition of prior knowledge is done.

Next is the practical area, where trainees acquire the skills they need for this particular
qualification.

This is the learning resource area, here, you can see the different CBLM, not print and print
materials that you can use as your reference. It is your library.

Next is distance learning area (if applicable or utilized in your qualification)

Let us go to the practical area.

So Ms. A., you are going to demonstrate ability to apply language skills in English
communication (it depends on what skill the trainee should achieve, modify this according to
your qualification or unit of competency in your field or qualification).

Let the Ms. A. demonstrate what she learned from module 1. Instruct her on what to do and give
you 20 minutes to demonstrate. This is written test while listening to recording.

Okey, Ms. A. I have a follow-up question. Why do you think listening is important in ESL?

minutes for lesson report. (Modify this according to your field)

I will give you 45 minutes to do the whole task. And please take note, let me see your hands, are
they dry (modify this, whatever safety measure that is applicable in your qualification/field).

Okey, very good, you can now start. While the candidate is doing the demonstration or all the
tasks, start evaluating her performance using the checklist that you have, Just stay around the
candidate while you assess her/ him.

Time is up. Let me see your output.

Thank you very much for that.

So, for your oral questioning, are you ready?

The question goes like this, Why is it important to prepare before the lesson starts? (Modify this
with a question relevant to your field/qualification?) So while the candidate answers, listen and
take down comments)

Thank you very much for that answer. Please go to the waiting area, please call candidate
number 2 for me. Thank you.

Candidate number 1 calls out candidate number 2

Repeat the same instruction you gave candidate number 1. And let candidate number 2 do the
same task candidate number 1 did.

Then go back to the candidates.

Hello again candidates. It’s time for your feedback. Are you ready?

copy of the result.

I also have an evaluation form. Please rate me as an assessor, honestly.

So for the issuance of your national certificate, you can claim it 5 working days after the
assessment at the TESDA provincial office. Just bring your result summary, I passport size DI,
with white background and with collar. And please bring 50 pesos for the processing fee.

Congratulations again! Please call candidate number 2 for me.

Do the same to candidate number 2. But to shorten your video presentation, it is fine with me
that you just take care of one candidate in the conduct of competency assessment. Also, do the
same in the delivery of training session, you can just attend to one trainee to shorten your time.

After these two video presentation, proceed to the self-assessment guide below to rate yourself.
