Agency Visit
Bureau of Fire Protection
Sorsogon City
Reflection Paper
On February 22, 2020 a group of students visited the (BFP) Bureau of
Fire Protection Sorsogon City. They conducted a comprehensive interview
about safety and fire prevention measures. Moreover, an in-depth discussion
about the agency’s role in the (Covid-19) Corona Virus Infectious Disease
occurred. According to SFO1 Edwin H. Dometita, a memorandum was
released from the head of the agency to all (BFP) Bureau of Fire Protection.
The memorandum concerns about safety prevention measures such as
performing hand hygiene, proper sneezing and coughing etiquette.
Furthermore, they also help in spreading awareness and preventive
measures about the virus.
In terms of the individual roles of the firemen, SFO1 Dometita gave us
several opinions about his perception of his job. “It is hard and very
dangerous when you are in the line of duty in fire response and rescue” as
stated by SFO1 Dometita. Moreover, all questions that were asked was
answered. When I asked about the safety precautions and preventions that
they implement to educate community about fire safety and prevention
SFO1 responded and said that the (BFP) Bureau of Fire Protection conducted
several programs including “Oplan Ligtas Kapamayanan” which is a new
program and now in its second year of implementation, “BFP sa Telibisyon,
Radyo at Social Media” which is their media campaign and “Matutuo ka”
Sunog iwasan na” which is their theme for the incoming fire prevention
month. In addition, they conducted seminars in school and in community
setting with the (DRRMO) Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office
activities like earthquake drills and fire drills.

I am highly satisfied with the overall knowledge that I gained during
the interview. Moreover, I realized the importance of their job in the safety of
the community and the programs that they are conducting must be followed
and must not be taken lightly. In addition, as SFO1 Dometita stated that it’s
better to prevent and follow safety measures than experiencing the negative
effects of these hazards. Furthermore, especially for the youth they must be
the role model and the catalyst of change. I am grateful that we conducted
this interview because I learned more about the perspective of these
professionals and their field in connection with my career which is nursing a
health related course. Moreover, I admire their bravery, courage, disciplines
and principles that they incorporate in their duties and also as a person.
These are one the most important characteristics that must be learned from
them in order to be successful in our careers.
