Michael Clayton

2007

“Michael Clayton” starring George Clooney and Tilda Swinton shows us from
the movie that when a man was caught between loyalty or conscience, which of the two
he must choose of. The loyalty which is the very foundation of what a man is now or a
conscience which rose up through the very nature of him and cannot be disregarded as
it is who he is.

In the movie as Karen embodies evil, but Michael serves it. His law firm is
helping the agrichemical company settle a multibillion-dollar suit. It seems the company
with the smoothly reassuring television commercials (cue the green fields and smiling
children) doesn’t bring good things to life but death by the hundreds. While working to
settle the case, Michael’s friend, Arthur, the firm’s star litigator, has an epic meltdown
and decides to blow the whistle on the questionable case, Karen order to take him
down. Michael discovers through a series of unpredictable event about the firm and the
company was working on and Michael has now caught in a situation in which are
forced to make decision whether to make obligation to conflict between loyalty or his
conscience.

At first the movie is confusing and hard to figure it out where it would be leading,
but as I watched through along with enough patience to see the ending, the movie is
worth the wait.

I can say, “Michael Clayton” is a film that speaks to the way we live now. It’s a
story about ethics and their absence. We lived in the world were lies and temptation
were brought about to shatter the symphony of life we living in. And if we chose what is
not right it will bring to nothing but a total disarray. The movie that Michael who lives in
the dark, who serves as a “fixer” for the prestigious law firm he is working using the
connections and knowledge of legal loopholes for the befits of his client, prove us that
even when a man who made life total worthless and may be seen to be easily be
attracted by temptation has still a chance and to stand for what is right. As seen in the
end, Michael did not sold out the information he has that may bring the downfall or
damage to the case and to the company but rather reveals that money cannot buy
everything.

As the truth can be adjusted.
